We have a powerful storm that is bringing in moisture all the way back towards the hawaiian islands. This is going to be moving in tomorrow, and its not in a hurry to leave. It will leave behind some damage. Its a three on our storm impact scale. Highest impact, Santa Cruz Mountains. Flooding is likely. Take a look at some of the biggest concerns. Very high likelihood of river and creek flooding, especially in the north bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Also mudslides and hydroplaning. Were expecting the river and creek flooding across the bay area. Potential is there for trees to topple and Power Outages to occur. A number of watches and warnings have been posted. Ill have all of those plus the hour by hour look at when the worst part of the storm is going to hit. Dan . Thanks very much. A van stuck in a sinkhole. Tonight, this blue van remains wedged in what remains of a Santa Cruz County Mountain Road that suddenly collapsed. The driver never saw it. Lets shower where this happened. It is unincorporated Santa Cruz County on skyland road near stetson road. Reporter dan, ama, we understand the driver is okay, but what a heartstopping moment that must have been to suddenly realize the road in front of you is gone. The scene is almost surreal. A bright blue van wedged end to end in a sinkhole. The situation on skyland road too precarious for a tow truck to do its job, so the van is stuck. I saw the screech marks, the skid marks. They saw it but just couldnt stop. I might have gone into that ditch too, you know. It was foggy, hard to see. Its flat. You know, how would you know . Reporter it could have easily been dana scobee in that hole. She had driven the same stretch about an hour before. She took these photos after the sun came up. Neighbors believe the driver is okay. Their main concern now is getting around. Its going to be a while before we get to use this road to go to town. So hopefully the only other road out of here stays open. Reporter all anyone can do is hope. Most santa cruz Mountain Roads are at risk because of all the rain. Highway 17 is certainly not immune. Northbound lanes are still closed because of this second mudslide near vinehill road. Traffic is forced to inch by one lane in each direction. But no matter how bad it gets, locals say they love living here. Its a little bit of heaven on earth despite what you see there. Reporter as you can see behind us, crews are working through the night on highway 17 to clear that mudslide out of the northbound lanes. But caltrans tells us tonight the soonest things could get back to normal would be monday. In the Santa Cruz Mountains, katie marzullo. Talk about the right place at the right time. Tonight two Good Samaritans are credited with saving a driver from this. An upside down car in a creek filled with rain water. Abc7 News Reporter katie utehs explains how they stepped into action. We heard the skidding but i could hear the impact against these rocks down here. Reporter cell phone video shows the crash scene dan rich discovered near his ranch yesterday afternoon. The car flipped upside down. The young man was trapped, couldnt get out, and the car filled up with water. Reporter neighbor clayton wedeman jumped into the creek with dan along Highland Road near Collier Canyon road. Underwater we could hear him hitting the window but he couldnt break it. Reporter dan sprang into action again, grabbing a pick ax from his truck and used it to smash the rear side window. Clayton went underwater, dove underwater and went through the car because we didnt know if there was anyone else. Reporter the only person inside, a 20yearold driver who suffered minor injuries. Chp said he drove too fast for he got very lucky. When he overturned and he landed in the creek, it can end up a lot worse than what happened. Reporter dan and clayton pulled the man out before chp and firefighters arrived. That took a lot of you know what to get that done. Reporter courage, perhaps heroics. Heroes, i mean anybody would have jumped down in the water, i think, to help somebody out obviously. Reporter a modest rescuer with miraculous timing. Happening now, westbound 580 in livermore has fully reopened after a giant pothole formed early this morning and caused traffic problems the entire day. Crews pulled away from the scene just a few minutes ago. The pothole was eight feet long. Cal tran crews spent the entire day repairing it and thankfully the road will be back to normal for the morning commute. A los gatos family found themselves stuck in the mud with no phone service and pleaded for help on social media. Unbelievable. This is so unbelievable. A mudslide knocked a house off its foundation yesterday. The ray familys main concern, a pregnant woman who was inside. She wasnt hurt, though. Theres no phone service in the remote area, so they got help by using facebook live. All the mud wiped out much of their fiveacre property. A house, a shed, an entire play area with play structures and stuff for children. A truck, two cars, a camper. That family is staying with relatives tonight. Dozens of bay area schools are closed tomorrow, mostly in Santa Cruz County and marin because of the incoming storm. Reporter dan, this 24hour fitness parking lot has been home to auto burglaries in the past but never 15 in one night. This is a busy parking lot. People constantly going in and out of the 24hour fitness in san ramon. But on monday night, a thief or thieves managed to break the windows of at least 15 cars and steal the personal items inside. People who use the lot regularly hear about the occasional auto breakin but never so many in one evening. Thats crazy. I mean generally i find this place pretty safe. I come here all the time, and i never have any problems. Reporter earlier that night, there were six auto burglaries at black hawk plaza, while in danville, at least two at the rose garden shopping center. Investigators from all three jurisdictions believe the break ins are connected and only vehicles with items in plain view were targeted. The thieves sorted out what they wanted to deep and dumped the rest at a different low kagscation. We found bags, clothing. It appear what they ended up taking was mainly electronics. I think some sports equipment, that type of stuff. Reporter investigators are working on a few leads. Theyre reviewing video from security cameras. She ran a Daycare Center here. We had a lot of problems because insurance doesnt pay fort damage. Reporter the house has been a morbid neighborhood attraction since the landslide took it yesterday. Today, an expert looked around on soil engineering. What happened, a matter of ground so saturated on such a steep slope that it began sliding. Often the critical moment arrives with no symptoms. If the slope is a soil slope and it sort of gradually moves, you would be able to see some settlement, some cracks in the pavement and flat work around the house. So that is when you would be able to see that there is a problem. It shifts into the east baby 8 00 a. M. , into San Francisco, and the peninsula is getting wet. At 8 00 a. M. When youre taking those kids tole skoo, its going to be coming down hard, and the commute is going to be longer than what youre used to. 10 00 a. M. Looking rough across the central bay and the north bay. Then as we head into 11 00 a. M. , the san mateo coast getting hammered. This continues at noontime, so you will need all your rain gear. 3 00 p. M. , dont be surprised if you get soaked and its really hard obviously to walk around when its raining and windy like that. So if you can stay home, good idea. North bay, the rain eases up by 5 00 p. M. , still looking at some heavy rain in the Santa Cruz Mountains and parts of the east bay as we head into the latter part of tomorrow night, scattered showers, lighter in intensity. Then as we head into friday morning, just scattered light showers will become moderate in pockets in the afternoon. Showers continue into the Late Afternoon and early evening before this winds down. This storm has the Pineapple Express so it is going to dump two to four inches in the north bay, the rest of you less than that. But this is going to mean some problems, especially in those areas with several inches of rain on top of saturated ground, so be careful. Winter storm warning, 6 00 tomorrow night.
