Week. Which means we have some drier weather to look forward to in just a few days. Good evening. Todays storm is winding down thank goodness. But its not done yet. Were still expecting a couple more storms before the sun comes out. We have Live Team Coverage spread out across the bay area tonight. In the places where the weather has hit the hardest, both to the north and to the south. Right now were looking live at the clouds rolling across San Francisco from this view on top of mount sutro. Abc 7 news meteorologist drew tuma is tracking the watches, warnings and advisories in northern california. First abc 7 news weather censor spencer. Pretty much spread across the bay area right now in terms of the worst. You can see weve got green covering everything. And so we have light to moderate rain over the entire bay area. The heaviest pockets of rain are moving from the north bay across the bay. And over to the east bay. So right now we taking down to street level over in richmond. It all moves north of richmond, coming across the bridge over interstate 580. A pocket of heavy rainfall earlier. Its moving up to the north a little bit just west of interstate 80 over near san pablo avenue. We move along to the storm impact field. This storm ranks 3 on the storm impact scale. A storm of strong intensity. Well continue to see scattered downpours and gusty winds and flash flood watches and warnings. Pockets of moderate rainfall light to moderate will continue to fall through the evening hours and even into early tomorrow morning. Let me toss it over to meteorologist drew tuma who has the latest on the watches and warnings. We have several active Flash Flood Warnings at this hour, which means creeks are actively overflowing their banks. Belmont creek, a Flash Flood Warning until 7 30 p. M. And alameda creek, Flash Flood Warning expires at 6 30 this evening. We do have some drier days ahead. Well be back with the full forecast in a few minutes. Ama . Thank you so much, drew. New at 6 00, take a look at flooding along 280 in san jose in just the last hour, katy marzullo tweeted this video of cars going slowly through the flooded lanes. There are significant delays throughout the area. Residents at a Mobile Home Park in san jose are being warned they may have to get out quickly. The trailer park is located next to coyote creek which is overwhelmed by water coming out of anderson reservoir. About eight inches of water have already accumulated as you can see at this trailer park. Firefighters are pumping water out of the lot as quickly as they can. The flooding along coyote creek led to a swift water rescue today. Sky 7 shows the rising water that trapped two people. Rescuers believe they were living along the creek. Weeks of rain actually changed the composition of the land. The water was rising on both sides of the piece of land that they used to be able to walk to. It became an island. It wasnt an island a week ago. Isnt that interesting . San jose has the countys only rescue team that is allowed to enter the water. This is their second rescue of the season. A rain and whipping winds are combining to create trouble in petaluma. One example with the tree behind me you can see. Melanie has the story. Reporter well, dan, it stopped raining here now. Incredibly, nobody was injured when this tree came down on saturday night. Take a look. You can see, it took the fence with it. That was in front of this home. Then it crashed into the white truck which really took the brunt of the trees fall and into the blue house. The woman who lives there, she was home saturday night. Luckily, shes okay. And taking all of this in stride. As Bridget Mortimer slept saturday night, her Furry Friends tried to warn her. All night long they paced up and down the house barking. Just barking all night long. Reporter before this tree came down. Everybody told me i have to downsize. What a way to do it. Reporter not quite the Home Improvement she had in mind when she moved in. It was like a heavy truck going down the street. Reporter in the morning this is what she saw outside her window. Thank god i wasnt injured and its only a house. Its only a house. Reporter she said her sons truck took the brunt of the trees fall. Im fairly calm. I suppose its my age that takes the brunt of that. Reporter today as crews cleaned, drivers around petaluma its nuts. Reporter contended with the conditions. A couple of potholes, roads are flooded. Nasty day out here. We left snow in boston, so this is very nice. Reporter mike and Amy Mcwilliams hoped to catch their flight to sydney tonight. Another family wondered if they could get home. We hoped we had enough charge. Reporter with downed trees, and standing water, and whipping winds, petaluma is a bit precarious. Obviously still a lot of work to be done here to clear this tree. Mostly they were just clearing branches today. But the woman that lives in that blue home tells me that her house was not red tagged. She says shell continue to stay here. She feels safe. In petaluma, abc 7 news. Thank you, melanie. In san rafael, one lane of southbound 101 was closed today because of a mudslide. Cal trans crews quickly worked to make repairs. Mudslides have been a huge issue today in the north bay. Leeann joins us live by the marin headland for some examples. Leeann . Reporter well, this afternoon there were concerns here in marin county that the winds would bring down some trees. Now, so far, weve heard of one this afternoon, about an hour ago at lucas valley road. But again, the mudslides have been the big problem here, and with all this rain, more to come. This mudslide just outside san rafael closed part of highland avenue. A small road used primarily by residents. The marin county Road Department was worried about a eucalyptus tree at the top of the hill. Unsafe situation at this point. Whats the idea, remove the tree . Remove the tree, get it out of there, in case that thing does cut loose. You know, we dont have to worry about the wires, or any more damage to property or anything like that. Reporter tony said the last time they had a mudslide here was ten years ago. The hillside was recently worked on. Arent we all sick of the rain at this point . I know i am, right . But its nice to be kind of dry in the house. Youre surrounded by so many trees. Any concerns . Yeah, always. Reporter at 5 30 this morning, crews were sent out to secure the area on Paradise Drive after a mudslide covered part of the road. They put up some krail that would secure the hillside. With the ongoing rain, the slide was still moving, making it somewhat dangerous for workers. On the positive side, many people stayed off the highways and roads because of the holiday. Schools are out of session. People are staying home. That really helps keep traffic on roadways light. And that makes it easier for our crews to respond and less likelihood of traffic accidents. Reporter and because there was no flooding or other emergencies, the Emergency Operations center was not activated. But im going to tell you, it has been activated five times already this year. And once in december. Im in marin county, abc 7 news. Leeann, thank you. Are you covered if a mudslide hits your property . Probably not. Basic Homeowners Insurance doesnt cover mudslides. Flood insurance does if water carries the mud like in terms of a stream. Theres an Earth Movement policy commonly called a difference in conditions. These cover landslides, mud floes and floods. Theyre expensive, starting in the thousands of dollars. The group has never identified a single policyholder here in the bay area. The San Lorenzo River runs right by the towns of felton, loman and Boulder Creek. David has a look at how theyre handling the rising water levels there. David . Reporter dan, because of all this rain, the San Lorenzo River keeps rising, at 17. 6 feet, 18 feet is the official flood stage. So were only a few inches part of a foot away. That has local residents really vigilant right now, because they are definitely at risk if the water continues to rise. Probably sometime, yeah, sometime tonight or Early Morning i think it will probably happen. Reporter the area encompassing felton and Boulder Creek has been under a Flash Flood Warning all day. The San Lorenzo River runs through all three towns. Once it comes down really heavy, the river starts going up about two feet an hour. And right now were at about three feet from flooding. So all we need is a few hard hours of rain and it will crest. Reporter thats why you see sandbags and barriers protecting the ground level of this home along the river in felton grove. Signs of the storms ferocity were all around. The soil was so saturated, the roots of this tree gave way, blocking cal south san jose road. The swollen rivers water raced down to the mouth next to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on the pacific shore. The initial forecast called for the river to peak above 22 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. Local residents kept in touch with friends upstream to check on rainfall there, that would affect levels here. A young lady named nina who said shes 3 and twofourths years old likes walking in the rain. Do you like walking in the rain . Without my hood. Reporter you like getting wet, huh . Yes. Reporter im glad somebody enjoys the rain. Well, the rain is relentless here. It continues to come down very hard. And with it, some trees. And so there are trees on some active roadways here in the santa cruz mountains, making it difficult to drive especially now that its nightfall. And the power is out so a lot of people are driving in the dark. David louie, abc 7 news. The wind and rain are leaving a lot of people in the dark. This power pole came down in saratoga around 5 00 p. M. This is one of several outages right now in saratoga. Pg e reports 440 customers are affected. A man said that same suspect shot at him just days before all this happened, sergei. Reporter yeah, pretty quickly after the shooting stopped on las vegas avenue on friday, a few different neighbors told us that that was not the first time justin had shot his weapon that street. The man we talked to says he shot at him and he wants to know why the police didnt seem to do anything about it. When one oakland resident heard a gunman shot up a las vegas avenue on friday, he wasnt surprised, he was angry. Why does when you call for help, you dont get help, you get interrogated yourself. Reporter three days before 32yearold jessie opened fire on the neighborhood and police, t said someone shot up his car while he was sleeping inside. He showed us the bullet hole in his dashboard and said a bullet grazed his head. When it happened, he was just a few feet away standing in his yard. Now, when i ran over and asked for help, he basically said, im the one who shot you. You [ bleep ]. Reporter he said neighbors already called police. We talked with a few this weekend who corroborated his story. They were concerned because just a few days earlier, they believe he shot up another car. All four windows was broken except the windshield, front and back. All four tires was popped. Reporter police came and collected bullet casings from his yard but he was not arrested and didnt have his gun taken away in either incident. Weve reached out to Oakland Police several times today and over the weekend, no response. T says fridays shootout should have never happened. Now, if the tables was turned and i was the black guy in the house and he was a white guy outside and i shot him, they would have came and got me out of my house that day. Reporter he was shot by police and died friday night. The neighborhood is still trying to repair the damage from gunfire, and t is struggling to pay for the damage to his car. In oakland, abc 7 news. Officials had hoped to reach that level before todays storm hit. And they did. Even so, an evacuation warning remains in effect which is one step below an immediate evacuation order. This bridge in Monterey County has moved more than half a foot in one day because of the cracks you can see here on its support. Cal trans said its because of mudslides under the bridge.
