We have just learned that President Trump is visiting congressman scalise. The u. P. S. Shooting happened at the u. P. S. Facility. The i team has identified the shooter as u. P. S. Employee jimmy lamb of San Francisco. The friends of the victim are gathered outside a safe way in Diamond Heights which is part of his route. First we want to begin our Team Coverage with abc News Reporter vick lee with what the police know. Vic . Reporter were here at the scene of the shooting at 17th. The shooter, u. P. S. Driver jimmy lam went with coworkers to a morning meeting. San Francisco Police responded to 911 dispatch calls at 8 55 this morning, people were shot at the building at 17th and an bruno. The gunman parked his vehicle at the parking lot to the building. He went on a shooting spree, behind him a trail of victims. As you guys have probably seen from the aerial footage, there were a couple outside, and some were inside. Reporter people fanned out and were looking for him as they evacuated workers. The Police Located the suspect who was still armed with an assault pistol. The suspect put the gun to his head and shot the weapon. Reporter but not before he shot five victims. Two officers are deceased as well as three witnesses. The building has been secured at this point, we believe the incident involves only one suspect. Reporter this afternoon, mayor ed lee visited the crime scene, saying the city will provide health and trauma counseling. We wanted to make sure that u. P. S. , their management, their employees know the city is behind, helping them recover from this incident. And this request by the president of Northern California u. P. S. If i could at this time just ask all of you to please keep u. P. S. Ers in your prayers. Reporter assistant police chief attorney chaplin says that the investigation of this building are completed and csi units are in this building trying to reconstruct the crime scene. And were also told that police will start letting people back inside the building so they can collect their belongings. In a statement from u. P. S. Says, the company is saddened and deeply concerned about the affected employees, Family Members. Were trying to find out more about jimmy lamb and why he went on the shooting rampage. Police sources tell abc7 the gunman had a history of Mental Health problems and that he was estranged from his wife, investigators are not sure if he targeted any one person or fired at random. We just want to make sure that the medical examiner is the one that identifies the person, and after thats done and we know that the next of kin have been notified, then we release the names. Also today we spotted police at the scene searching a 2012 bmw that came back to jimmy c. Lam. This u. P. S. Driver worked with him for a decade and describes him as a loaner. I never knew anything about him except for when he came from management, he would have friction from management. That u. P. S. Driver said that he doesnt understand why that driver opened fire, in his view, all the drivers got along. Kate larsen has been at sf general all day. Reporter we know that the victims were taken here, two of them who survived and were going to talk about more of that in a little bit. But also one of the victims mike la fete who died, we know he was loved by his large extended family here in the bay area, but were also learning that he was loved and respected by his coworkers at u. P. S. And not only that but all the people he services in Diamond Heights. I also spoke to his general who said that he was actually at the u. P. S. Facility and heard the gunshot wounds and went running to his cousin right after that. I heard gunshots. I stopped the van, i walked up towards the gate, and i saw my cousin sprawled out on the concrete. Reporter toya ran to his cousin and said that he loved him and then he tried to resuscitate him. To see a Family Member so close to you go down like that, and to see that visual is pretty hard. I lost a great brother. Everybody lost a great man. Mike, i used to call him my gentle giant. A former u. P. S. Coworker who did not want to be identified said that he and lafete had similar routes. We talk a lot about life and theres always we something we learn in every day life. La feete separated says they come from a very tight knit San Francisco family, most of whom were here at San Francisco general grieving today. He just wasnt the person for this to happen to. Im told by sources here at the hospital that they were treated here at San Francisco general and then were released so we believe they are home tonight. We also know that there were five other people who were injured not from gun shot wounds and were waiting to learn more about their conditions. Drivers gathered outside their facility, shocked that a fellow driver would open fire on them. One u. P. S. Driver said that he is was waiting for the meeting to begin and he heard the shots and instinct took over. I heard six or seven shots outside. I didnt wait to leook at the guy. Police say he did the right thing by running from an active shooter. Employees were given the option of staying at work or going home for the day.
