Joe vasquez is live at city hall to explain. Joe . Reporter the frisco5 went to the hospital friday. They will be there a few more days. Yesterday, they called off their Hunger Strike. Tomorrow, they want everyone to play hooky and come down to city hall and protest. After 17 days of dramatic demonstrations and hospitalizations, the frisco5 have called off their Hunger Strike but they are not finished. They are now calling for a general strike. They want everybody to make monday off. If children want to walk out with the permission of their parents they can walk out. We are asking everyone to join us in a peaceful silent protest in front of city hall. Reporter a general strike is usually a term referred for labor unions or implies it would have the support of unions but many of the unions will hold Early Morning meetings to talk about whether they will participate. With respect to our unit, we have not decided yet. We know a lot of folks in the unit will be making that decision as well. Reporter one Political Group has decided to honor the call for a strike. John gullinger and the San Francisco reform democrats have called off their get out the vote event. Voting is important, but this is a dire issue that people are being injured, killed and discriminated on the streets. Reporter that Union Representative i interviewed, josh arce, happen to be running against one of the strikers. He says there is is a definite split in the community between those who believe the police chief should be fired and those who believe he should stay on and push through the reforms. San francisco da established a Blue Ribbon Panel to look into racist and homophobic texts. The man accused of murdering a defense attorney is due in court tomorrow. Marla zamoro was found stabbed to death in her home friday. Neighbors tell us Angelo Zamora was related to her and had been living with her. No word on a possible mote i for the killing. And two san jose brothers charged in the murders of their parents are expected in court. Hasib and omar ogolumrabi are accused of gunning down their parents last month. Prosecutors say they are ready to move forward but the Defense Attorneys say they need more time. A bay area man is under arrest in a crash that left a veteran Highway Patrol officer seriously injured. The suspect was driving a fedex truck while probably being high on drugs. Reporter tonight as officer Vincent Smith lies in the hospital surrounded by his colleagues and family, Gregory Ramirez of san lorenzo stands behind bars accused of slamming his fedex truck into smith in sacramento. No one answered at the home where a next door neighbor says ramirezs family lives. The neighbor says ramirez moved out a couple of years ago. Investigators say they found drugs on ramirez, but wouldnt say what type and that he was likely high when he hit smith and his Police Cruiser saturday morning. Smith was standing outside in the process of clearing a hit and run accident. Patrol vehicles, overheadlights were all activated. Those led brights are very bright. Reporter tonight, fedex isnt saying much about where ramirez was headed and how long he had been on the road. Only releasing a statement saying in part, we are fully cooperating with investigating authorities. Smith was nearly two decades of protecting our community now in critical condition. The single engine aircraft skidded to a stop in pamona down in southern california. It was trying to land in an airport a few miles away but there was a malfunction. The new chest cams will go into Service Next Month in danville. Theirs will switch on as soon as an officer turned on the overheadlights and sirens in the patrol car. But if an officer happen to be away from the car, they will have to turn it on manually. There will certainly be a circumstance where something happened away from the patrol car. If the officer was suddenly attacked, it will be difficult to try and remember to hit this button. Officers are hopeful their experience with car cameras will help make the transition to body cams a smooth one. The Oakland City Council will hold a public hearing tomorrow on the potential impact of hauling crude oil through town on trains. The city has also hired a consultant to look into it. Our fire season saw to a slow start thanks to the wet winter but firefighters are staying on alert. They tell our devin fehely things could spark in an instant. Reporter cal fire says dont let the green hillsides fool you. Though fire season is starting slowly, the lingering effects of the states drought could replace them. It just continues to get drier and drier. Any time during that time, if we get a wind event, then we are very susceptible to a large damaging fire. Reporter fire season statewide has been mild. There have been significantly fewer wild fires in the first part of the year. 619 through april 30 compared to 917 last year. A 34 drop. And the fires have been smaller and more quickly contained. With roughly 600 acres burned statewide through the end of last month, compared to more than 9,000 acres during the same time period last year. But cal fire says we are by no stretch of the imagination out of the woods yet. In fact, years of drought have left millions of trees dead or dying. Potential fodder for the next big fire. This year is shaping up as not as severe as last year. However, that could change if we get fires in those areas where there is an estimated 30 Million Trees that have died. Marijuana in Calaveras County right now is worth about 100 million. He is part of an ever expanding coop of growers here hoping to cash in on the green rush.
