The wind is blowing from the northwest taking that smoke and any toxins in that smoke and blowing it to the southeast or away from San Francisco bay. So right now gusty winds, 15 to 20 miles per hour, we have a big fire, we have a lot of smoke. And that smoke currently is heading from that fire site to the southeast at about 15 to 20 miles per hour. And the winds will likely stay elevated until sunset, which is still about 2 hours away. We think it is a store called Digital Reality and our betty yu reported what could have caught fire are discarded electronics. Its on alford street. Betty saw pallets being moved in by workers earlier. This is happening just north of san jose mineta. You see that thick, black smoke billowing in the area. Its not affecting air traffic. Crews and levis stadium working quickly to replace part of the field just one Football Game into the season. But its the 49ers again making the headlines as they struggle to deal with a turf emergency at new levis stadium. Our sports director Dennis Odonnell with games that are being called off. Definitely. On the field failure led to some High School Games being called off today. There was a friday night lights event planned for next week. Thats been rescheduled for october 10 and 11 all because of this. The turf was torn up following the first Football Game against the broncos. Our chopper 5 was over the stadium this afternoon where crews are just about done replacing the entire field except for the end zones. The trucks with new sod rolled up this morning and the footing on the new grass is a hot topic. Loose grass could lead to loose footing, which could cause injuries, which is why jim harbaugh called off practice on wednesday. He was pressed this afternoon about the field and if it would affect how he approaches sundays game against the san diego chargers. From a coaching perspective, does this impact how you manage your starters in this game . Are they going are you going to put them out there less time because youre not sure how the field is going to be . No. Im sure the field is going to be good and playable. Reporter the third preseason game is usually big. Teams leave their starters in for half or so, sometimes longer, so they can find a rhythm thats really the final rehearsal for the regular season game. A guilty verdict in the case of a petaluma slaughterhouse accused of processing bad beef. Today the coowner admitted his part in that scheme. Its Robert Singleton of the Rancho Feeding Corporation as he left federal court this morning. He cut a deal with prosecutors to testify against his former partner. He was allegedly in charge of buying the sick cows and distributing the tainted meat which led to the massive recall. He admitted turning a blind eye to that operation. He feels remorseful. He feels like like he let his community down and he wanted to accept responsibility and chose to cooperate with the government. Singletons partner, who was indicted earlier this week, also happens to be at the courthouse. He faces up to five years in prison, singletons guilty plea will mean a lighter sentence for him. Linda. Reporter the family of alex nieto claimed the Police Used Excessive force and now they marched on to the Federal Building here earlier today and called out for justice. [ screaming ] racist cops reporter alex nietos parents led the march. It was five months ago today when their son was shot by police here at Bernal Heights park. His friends claim its an officerinvolved shooting cloaked in mystery. The San Francisco Police Department killings have been happening, a lot of the information gets suppressed. And thats what were afraid of. Thats what were working on now to get all that information out. Reporter witnesses told police nieto had a gun and was threatening passersby. Officers say he reached for a weapon forcing them to open fire. It was a stun gun. Nieto supporters marched to the Federal Building where the familys attorney filed a lawsuit against the city accusing police of Excessive Force and violating nietos civil rights. Its our belief that the claim that he had pulled out his taser and pointed it at the police did not happen. That is a false statement. It is a coverup statement. Reporter its hard to miss the visual contradiction of Police Officers blocking traffic for the marchers cause. Nieto supporters say the cops fired at him because he was latino. The nations focus now on ferguson is not lost on them. We have seen the process thats happening in ferguson right now. We would like to tell the d. A. , maybe you guys can learn from that. Reporter this isnt the first lawsuit against police after a shooting. But bay area Public Relations expert sam singer says this latest one is timed perfectly. Whats going on here is very savvy plaintiffs attorneys are filing lawsuits because they are trying to play upon peoples emotions and concerns postthe ferguson shooting. Reporter Attorney John Burris says he insists that this complaint will force the city to review the officers involved in the shooting, will also release the autopsy reports, and he hopes bring out more transparency in the investigation. You saw firefighters there, uhm, getting as much water as they can on this fire. So far three trucks, uhm, a large tree, all of that going up in flames. And it still has not been clear what exactly is burning. We know this is happening at a store there in silicon valley. Uhm, and that perhaps a storage shed in the back is what caught fire. This one as you see a lot of black smoke but they are getting a little bit of water on it. Thats the gray white smoke. We dont know exactly how this fire got started. Its pretty scary because the smashandgrab is really a noisy way to break in a car. But now they have this kind of technical way of a device that looks like a key to quietly commit the crime. We have heard and seen the results of those smashandgrab breakins. But now thieves are going high tech with technology that quietly commits the crime. They are using some sort of device to unlock the door. Reporter this Surveillance Video taken overnight outside a concord home driveway shows the thief opening a locked car without a key. Cops say he is using a mysterious handheld Electronic Device to get in then steals items inside the car and leaves without a trace or sound. That kind of scary, the thieves have hightech ways to get into your car . Well, yes, it is. But, uhm, like i said, i try not to keep anything of value in my car. Reporter heres how it works. A thief walks up to a random car carrying an Electronic Device similar to what you use to open your car. They hit the unlock button, unlock the door, and theyre in. Authorities believe the crooks are randomly targeting vehicles until one of them unlocks with their device. It seems like every time we invent Something Better to prevent criminal activity, the criminals are out there doing the same thing on how to defeat it. And Concord Police tell me there have not been a lot of these cases here in concord but there has been a nationwide alert put out and Car Manufacturers are very aware of this new technology. Let me show you what the fire looked like a short time ago. Intense flames and that black smoke really could be seen from everywhere in the valley.
