They want to make sure they are charged for pulling officers off an overbooked flight. The video of united pulling dr. David dough off the plane horrified people. During the board supervisors meeting, shehe asked the City Attorney to draft a policy prevening sfpd officers from intervening at overbooking squabbles at sfo. The airline has a policy about booking. They have made the decision when they overbook, if a passenger wont voluntarily give up his or her seat, that they are going to physically remove them from the airplane. Those are all business decisions. The role of our Police Department is for our public safety. Not to enforce bad business policy on behalf of a private entity. Reporter after two pr fumbles and apologies yesterday, the ceo of united issued a stronger apology today calling the man handling of dr. Dough truly horrific. It has caught the attention of top ranking senators calling munozs explanation for the violence unsatisfactory. Taking sfpd out of any future overbooking issues stops the city of San Francisco from facing increased liability. I do think that this will serve a Public Policy aim of reducing our vulnerability to lawsuits. I mean, obviously, when this happens, people are going to sue. The man was injured. Jeff fern said he paid 1,000 for a full first class air fare from hawaii to irvine. After boarding the flight attentaint told him he had to get off the plane because it was overbooked. He held his ground. Then he found out, they needed his seat for a traveler with higher status. First class priority status. When he refused he was threatened with handcuffs. She said if you dont leave voluntarily, we will summon security and have you escorted off the plane. My wife joked if you had waited five more minutes it would have been you on tv. He flew home in a middle seat in economy. And they apologized and gave him a 500 credit and the difference between his seat and the economy seat. Scattered showers, but this is just the beginning. Several gunmen are still on the loose. One of the bullets pierced through the windshield of this unoccupied parked car on olive street. It happened about 4 30 this afternoon. Another bullet right through the hood. Police found multiple shell casings on the street. They did not find anyone injured. Witnesses told police they saul several males running from the area and driving off in two separate vehicles. For months, police have been on the trail of a bunch of dirt bike daredevils terrorizing a bunch of bay area drivers. Joe vasquez on how they tracked down a suspect who ran but could not hide. Reporter pops wheelies and performing stunts. Drivers have captured these images on cell phone cameras of dirt bikes bringing traffic to a standstill on highways and busy city streets. They are running red lights, stop signs. Riding up on the sidewalk. Reporter sunday afternoon, the chp says about eight or nine dirt bikers gathered at mclaren park. They scattered when officers arrived but a chp plane was high above with a highdef camera. They followed one man who was driving especially wrecklessly. The man tried to ditch the plane. He was shedding his clothing. Reporter the suspect tried to hide his motorcycle by putting it beside one of the vehicles and then tried to dive underneath. He was probably there for a minute but because of the plane, we were able to clearly see where it he was. The pilot guided our units on the ground directly to the location. Reporter and the chp arrested 28yearold renee sanidad. He is now in jail for reckless driving among other charges. They will ask him about other incidents including the beating of a lyft driver on 101 in San Francisco last month. We dont know if it is related. We havent developed any information that would tie the party we have in custody to this incident. We are treating this as a separate incident on its own. Reporter joe vasquez, kpix5. Tonight, the White House Press secretary apologizing for an insensitive remark about the holocaust. Veronica de la cruz is here to explain. Yeah, sean spicer tried to discuss the horror of the chemical weapons attack last week in syria and this is what he had to say. You had a. You know, someone as despicable as hitler who didnt even sink to using chemical weapons. Reporter hitler, of course, sent millions of jews to the gas chambers. We are getting a look at the massive amounts of marijuana that Alameda County sheriffs deputies seized over the weekend. This is what 320 pounds of pot looks like. Authorities stumbled on it when they pulled over the driver of a van for a cell phone violation. They also found this suitcase filled with more than a Million Dollars in cash. Two suspects were arrested on suspicion of sales and transportation of narcotics. Getting pot got a lot easier in san jose. Now, you can get it delivered right to your door. Reporter liz, as of today, san jose is now the largest bay area city that the weed delivery app ease now serves. Its partner dispensary says patients can get their weed within 20 to 30 minutes depending on where they live in the city. Organic weed gummies, mints, vaporizer cartridges. Just a few of the products you can get delivered to your home in san jose. Since the city lifted its ban on medical pot delivery. The Weed Technology company ease, the largest in the nation, lets customers order items like prerolled joints and different strains of pot through its app. We are really excited the city has allowed delivery so that we can give access to patients who need medical marijuana who might not be able to go out to the locations. Reporter ease has partnered with the dispensary the guild to deliver weed products to patients. It is one of two licensed shops to deliver weed in city. You can also get a medical marijuana card and register with a dispensarily the app. One of the problems we have had and the complaints we have is it is difficult to get here. Whether from a convenience point of view or from a necessity due to public access. Reporter most of the citys dispensaries are clustered in industrial parts of town. There are 16 in san jose includeing the guild serving a city of a million people. You know, you really need home delivery. A lot of those people rely on it. For example, the transportation cost alone to get to a dispensary for a lot of people cost more than the medicine itself. So being able to deliver it to their home is really an important element. Reporter the altercation continued in the patrol car where he is seen in the backseat kicking and was even restrained. The officer has since been put on administrative leave. Now, the big question many are asking, was it Excessive Force . If it appeared to this officer that he was about to be attacked, then he has the right to defend himself. Reporter today the Department Released a statement saying the officers were disturbing an unreasonable based on the circumstances and there is a criminal ongoing investigation. In San Francisco, Jennifer Mcgraw for kpix5. David lettermans mother has died. She was a frequent guest on the show and his biggest fan. Dorothy mengering made multiple appearances on the show. She also wrote a book called home cooking with daves mom. Stephen colbert who succeeded letterman tweeted that he is grateful that dave shared her with us. Dorothy was 95 years old. A San Francisco couple goes to hawaii to get married but their dream wedding turns into a nightmare. Days after exchanging their vows, they got violently ill. Rat lung worm can do serious brain and spinal cord damage. It is spread by a parasite that infects rats, slugs, and snails. Humans can get it by eating raw produce or contaminated animals like shrimp or crab. It really does disrupt and destroy peoples lives. Reporter how the couple got it in the first place is still a mystery. But they want to make sure others take extra care when traveling. Cate caugurian, kpix5. A southwest flight to the bay area landed in oakland with a flat tire. The jet flew in from denver. It is unclear if it was flat before the plane landed or if it blew when it hit the landing strip. The airport said the plane was able to slowly taxi to the gate and everyone was safe. A coldhearted crime, who would steal from kids .
