Our time. The fire raged for at least three hours and it is still burning right now. It began on the 26th floor spreading up and down to the 25th and 28th involving multiple units. All three People Killed died on the 26th floor. Rs helping peopl there are reports of people calling into 911 trapped. You can see video of firefighters helping people out on stretchers. I dont have the count as far as how many are sheltering in place, but if theyre within what we call the hot zone, if theyre right above or to the side of the rooms that are on fire, then we are evacuating them. As far as how the conditions are, we had to evacuate our firefighters about two or three times during the firefight. At this hour some people are still unaccounted for. Firefighters are going door to door. The building has 568 apartment units. It was built in 1975 before fire code mandated sprinklers in buildings. At least two people have been taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation tonight. In the newsroom andria borba, kpix5. Here in the bay area things are really going to heat up this weekend. Some spots are going to reach triple digits again. Chief meteorologist paul deanno tells us about the heat advisory. Paul . How does this related to average . San francisco will be 7 degrees above average tomorrow with a high of 74, san jose 89. That 100 for concord is 14 degrees above average. Its just the start of fire season, you know, and already firefighters in san jose are exhausted. Theres been so many fires here in san jose im standing where there was a grassfire just a few days ago. This is the home that burned down, just one of many fires that are still were investigation. That are still under investigation. In East San Jose acres of charred grass can be seen on the hillside and cal fire warms many of the recent fires confirms many of the recent fires are being investigated as possibly suspicious. Its one of the busiest fire seasons in a long time. Reporter the san jose Fire Union President says firefighters are exhausted. Our folks are held overon mandatory overtime. The real challenge for us is when we put out fire, its not just water, its foam. Were running out of those buckets to foam. Our riggs are getting worn. Reporter cal fire says the peak of the season is still months away. With only 80 firefighters covering 200 square miles and 1 million residents, its almost an overwhelming challenge. A 5yearold girl from berkeley is missing tonight and Police Believe her own mother abducted her. Police say the mother kidnapped malalia booker near prince and sacramento street at 3 15 this afternoon. This is the girls mother, 34 yearold lakita davis, 5 8, 172 pounds with diminished capacity. Anyone who has seen davis or her daughter is asked to call 911. A cal student is behind bars tonight. Hes accused of almost three dozen acts of vandalism, some considered hate crimes, but kpix5s Christin Ayers tells us tonight the suspect says he is the real victim. Reporter tonight Authorities Say the vandal who did this was caught red handed and is behind bars, but theres a twist. The suspect said he was racially profiled by police. Neighbors on this block discovered a string of vandalisms the morning of june 28th. Slashed tires and graffiti, some of it reading [ bleep ] white people. 36 separate instances of vandalism in a very close proximity. Reporter tonight authorities announced theyve arrested this uc berkeley student, 21yearold ismael chamu for vandalism and committing a hate crime, but ismael was arrested the day the vandalisms happened for a separate crime. Our burglaries went to a prowl burglary. Reporter police went a couple blocks from where the burglary happened, stopped him and arrested him for carrying an illegal switch blade. In a Facebook Post he said the police racially profiled me for being mexican, for looking like a burglar, for appearing dangerous and mocked me for not speaking english. Once behind bars he claimed a tracy named z. Tracy mocked him using a racial slur. Is there any investigation of whether discrimination was involved in the arrest . Yes. Tonight the marines released the names of 16 Service Members killed in a men crash on monday. One of the victims plane crash on monday. One of the victims was a uc davis grad. 30yearold captain Shawn Elliott was part of the ski team and rotc team before he graduated in 2009. Monday the plane was flying from North Carolina to san diego before going down in mississippi. There was some kind of in flight mishap, but the cause of the crash says still unclear. A young mother nearly killed a year ago when a tree branch fell on her is still in a San Francisco hospital tonight. Emma xhao suffered severe spine and brain injuries last august while her son was playing at Washington Square park. Shes been living at laguna honda hospital recovering ever since. She said she only is allowed to leave the building with her family for a few hours on the weekends. Translator i wanted my husband to give up on me. I thought i was a burden on him. There was a period of time when i was in a really bad mood. He encouraged me not to give up. Emma is suing the city of San Francisco claiming the tree was improperly pruned. She said the hospital is discussing the possibility of discharging her, but there is no timeline yet. In florida what started as a small dip in the ground became a sinkhole and then this happened.
