So if you got covid three months ago it is likely you had the ba. 2 variant, the ba. 5 variant is so different from all of the omicron variants that came before it. It is very unlikely you have much in the way of protection from that prior infection. Reporter cbs medical contributor celine gounder is from Kaiser Health news and said this new sub variant is one reason that those eligible for a booster should not delay getting it. Today theyre focusing on what former President Trump was doing as rioters stormed the capitol and how Law Enforcement turned the tide. Here is natalie brand. Reporter the fact that Nothing Happened and that he took so long for him to act is incredibly puzzling and distressing. Cbs news has confirmed witnesses are sara mathews and former Deputy National security adviser matthew potter. The committee is expected to detail the efforts by theormer esircl convince him to take act during the assault as well as the fallout later that evening and into the next day. It is obvious the president , duty. But for all of the details, you have to watch. Reporter the investigation is also intensifying into missing secret service Text Messages from january 5th and 6th which were requested by committee. Cbs news has confirmed the dhs Inspector General has asked secret service to stop their internal investigation so it doesnt interfere with the ig probe. Natalie brand, capitol hill. We wanted to know more about the Text Messages in question from the secret service. Our anne makovec spoke with Catherine Ridge about how and how they might correspond with those testifying tonight. They both resigned as a rults of what they witnessed on those two days. Now when we hear from aides like this, the other side ends up trying to discredit these people, people supporting President Trump. Have you heard anything before we heard from them, starting that process . We havent heard that yet but you raise an excellent point. One of the reasons the committee wants to have the secret service Text Messages is because theyre like an unfiltered road map to what happened in the lead up to january 6 and then the day after. So for example, if youted ctheck theny of key witnesses, who were going to hear from tonight and as well as Cassidy Hutchinson who described this alter case between President Trump and the secret service, you could look to those secret service Text Messages to validate what she said or in some cases, it could undercut key testimony and that is why there is so much frustration by these congressional investigators because those texts are extremely valuable to their case. It looks different then. Well for all of the foodies out there, dine downtown san jose started today. Joining me live now, scott niece, the ceo of downtown san jose association. Thank you so much for joining us. So first question, how does this work and for those who are working with a limited budget, which so many of us are right now, what do you recommend exactly . Well good afternoon, this is the 14th year weve done dine downtown and it has expanded to 11 days and coming out of the pandemic, we really are encouraging people to go out, you could get takeout, specials from all of the participating restaurants. We have expanded it to cafes. You could get just dessert, you could get coffee pairings as well. You could go big, the best way to do it just go on the website, search the menus and try to find something maybe that you havent tried before. You know, these events, there are many across the bay area, have become so important right now because the pandemic just really hit restaurants hard. All kinds of businesses. But some have had to close. In san jose as recently as yesterday we were reporting on a pizza shop closing down there. So how is the food and drink scene doing in san jose overall at this moment . Well, like everywhere else, the pandemic and the economic shock from the pandemic has just been devastating. Weve had a lot of our restaurants and eateries and cavies close. But at the same time, there is six new restaurants on dine downtown this season that opened just recently. And that is what youre going to see, somebody shuts down and another one comes in their place. The spirit and perseverance of the entrepreneurs is amazing. None of these are chain restaurants. Here is a chance to go out and try what you want to look for and in ethnic food or a small place or a big threecourse dinner, you could find something for any budget and remember tip generously. Oh, yes. All. That is a great rule of thumb. What are your favorites. I like to research before i go to any restaurant extensively. But for us that are fly by the seat of our pants what, are your personal recommendations. Well im probably, im a vegetarian, so i actually do go to the website first and i look through because not all we have a lot of carnivore heavy many options for those. So as a vegetarian, i search out the vegetarian options and there are some vegan options as well. Something that caught my eye are the vegan enchiladas at mescal and then also some really fantastic places like orchestra that has three different vegan options on their menu. So just hunt and find out what youre in the mood for and take a friend. Very good advice. Scott, thank you so much for being here. Dine downtown san jose runs through the end of the month. So there is time. Thank you. Okay. Lets talk weather. Were talking about maybe patio dining or i dont know. It should be fine. Temperatures enclose he is to normal for this time of the year. July we could get the tripledigit heat waves and dining outside is not something you want to do but we have several changes over the next several days and for tomorrow a parade of minor storm systems aiming toward the pacific northwest. Even there it will bring some additional cloud cover and maybe some drizzle. But these are close enough to squeeze the atmosphere over the bay area and produce some stronger onshore winds tomorrow. It is noticeable and on shore today and remaining through this evening. But as we wind the clock forward, the winds tonight do die down and pick up tomorrow. One category stronger. So the strongest gusts are 15 to 20 mileperhour inland and 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour along the coast and it pushed the marine erin land and the inland reaching into the 80s and 90s will back down to 80s across the board. Right now you could see the fog and just the very top of sutro tower. Temperatures in San Francisco has been stuck in the upper 50s all day. It is still cool to mild around the water. 67 degrees right now in oakland. This is pretty comfortable. Teams in the low 80s in san jose and santa rosa. But around 90 in livermore and concord. Your temperatures will down about four or five degrees for highs tomorrow. Fog is going to push across the bay but i dont think it is quite as widespread or quite as stubborn on friday. The stronger winds stir around the atmosphere even as it is pushing the marine layer farther inland and stirring it vertically and that helps to dissipate faster. So plenty of sunshine. Should be nice to finish off the workweek. Temperatures mostly in the 50s which is where were supposed to be. High temperatures tomorrow running two or three degrees below normal around the bay. Close to average farther inland. Mostly in the 80s. Just the warmest spots reaching above 90 degrees. Along the coast, it is cool. The upper 50s. 70s down the peninsula and around the south end of the bay, temperatures in the lower half of the 80s. Up to 82 in san jose but up to 89 for morgan hill. Temperatures in the east bay, mostly in the 80s. Temperatures in the low to mid80s in the trivalley. The hottest spots eastward through the delta and mt. Diablo, that is not bad for jowl. Temperatures in the low 60s in San Francisco and upper 60s for oakland and the east bay. Low to mid80s inland and the mid bay and a couple of degrees below average for midjuly and until you go north it is going to warm up. Temperatures still well into the 90s for mendocino and lake county. Despite the cooler temperatures, the stronger winds will offset that improvement in terms of fire danger index. So well see the potential for any fire that gets started to spread more rapidly for Solano County and the spots east of the diablo range. Well keep an eye on that. Just enjoy the cooler temperatures and the stronger breeze. Temperatures will return close to normal through the weekend into most of next week. Some additional cloud cover overhead tuesday, wednesday and thursday as some monsoonal moisture makes its way toward us. This which that happens, there is concern about the potential for some dry lightning strikes, that does not look likely at this point so dont worry about it.
