A rare and endangered corporation flower starting to bloom at san jose state. Joining me now greenhouse manager lars rosenberg. We know the flurry, people come to see it and they come to smell it. If you could describe the notes like when you buy a perfume and they say it dries down and smells like jasmine. How would you say this flower smells . It smells like a dead body. It smells pretty strong and pretty unpleasant. So it smells like a dead body. Thankfully some of us dont know what that smells like. People come to see it in droves. People line up. What is the deal with the fascination with this . Well, the flower is massive. Ours here at san jose state is seven feet tall. I mean, when you think about it, its kind of amazing that a plant could grow a flower. Technically, its so large. Yeah, i know. Wee see the pictures of that, and you can see it in relation to the people walking by. And how popular is this. Is this a big draw . A lot of people seem to be interested this time around. Yeah, weve had a lot of social media attention. Weve had a lot of people looking at our live stream. Paul is here laugh agent the idea of going to see a flower that smells like a dead body. No, there are other flowers out there. Check those out. Others ones that dont smell like decomposing organic matter. Well, to each his own as we said the last time around there was an interesting story put in by the producer. Lets transition to weather, if thats even possible. Awkward segue, just take a right turn. Lets focus on whats going to happen over the next few days. Just a normal july pattern in place. Strong High Pressure centered to our north. There is a few Different Centers to it. One of it is bringing record high temperatures to the seattle area. The other which is producing some hot temperatures over the desert southwest. But the position of that is going to allow some monsoonal moisture to swing around it, and swing up towards us from the south over the next few days. Were going see the bulk of that by friday, saturday and sunday. And whenever that happens this time of year, we have to be on the lookout for the possibility of maybe some lightning strikes into very dry fire fuels around the bay area. I think that threat is going to remain low. We can take a look at forecast lightning density, or intensity. How long lightning strikes are there going to be . You can see the activity tomorrow is mainly going to be clustered toward the southern end of the sierra. Wind the clock forward to friday afternoon, and not as many of the strikes even as the monsoonal moisture begins to increase, and what little activity is once again over the high sierra. A little more activity. But some is a little closer to the Northern Edge of the bay area. But were just not overly concerned at this point about any significant lightning threat. Something well keep an eye on as we head through the rest of this week. Right now looking outside towards San Francisco. And the fog is compact enough that the camera on top of sutro tower is not enshrouded in fog, but still a lot hanging along the coast. Temperatures in the 60s around the bay. 70s and 80s inland. Not bad from 76 in san jose to 86 in concord. The fog is going to push back across the bay, well into the inland valleys by early tomorrow morning. And then it backs up towards the coast as we head towards midday. Well see plenty of sunshine in the afternoon. Pretty much a copy and paste forecast from today to tomorrow. Temperatures beginning mostly in the 50s, which is where were supposed to be this time of year. High temperatures on thursday. Pretty much everybody within a couple of degrees on either side of whats average for late july. Hard to complain about normal temperatures. Low 60s right along the coast. Mostly 70s down the peninsula and the south end of the bay, with mostly low to mid 80s in the santa clara valley. But approaching 90 degrees around morgan hill and gilroy. Temperatures mostly in the 80s. Inland in the east bay. Some 90s from pittsburgh to fairfield to antioch to brentwood. But when the hottest temperatures are in the low 90s, its not a bad forecast for july. Mid 60s in the city. Upper 60s for oakland and the east bay. A mix of 70s and 80s. Farther inland in the north bay. Until you go farther inland, it will get hotter and hotter. Different story for lake county where temperatures are likely to reach tripledigit territory. What a difference that marine layer makes. Temperatures are going to stay nearl
