Six people died back in june. The lawsuit says builders used cheaper wood than had been approved and contractors allegedly left that balcony exposed to rainfall for months before they waterproofed it. Also, building managers did not act on complaints about mushrooms growing out of the wood, a sure sign of rot. A hearing is scheduled in San Francisco today for the ceo of a digital ad company on charges of domestic violence. [ nonenglish language ] was convicted of two misdemeanors last year after allegedly assaulting a girlfriend in his condo. The altercation was captured on a secured videotape and police said it shows the man hitting and kicking the woman 117 times. A fugitive back in custody about a month after police say he escaped from a bail bondsman at Santa Clara County jail. The arrest came last night after a standoff in san jose. Reporter we all remember that embarrassing case where that gang member slipped his cuff and got away from the two bail bondsmen. A couple of yards away here from the front entrance to the main jail it was a huge manhunt here in downtown san jose. We are back where it started this morning. The man is behind bars. He was arrested last night after a threehour standoff in the evergreen area of south san jose. Officers went to the home to follow up on the case yesterday evening. He left the home and then briefly went back inside scrambled back inside with some other people just before 8 p. M. Police set off flashbang grenades and went in the home and arrested the suspect. I think we were all kind of curious on how it was going to unfold today. But we did get a serious criminal off the street. Reporter now, check out this viral video from the summertime. Police say back in august, Surveillance Video captured him burglarizing a home with a woman carrying a guitar acting as a lookout. He now faces charges including felony assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and attempted burglary. Live in downtown san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. Sentencing happens today for Matthew Muller the suspect in a string of Home Invasions. Muller has pleaded no contest to charges from an incident in dublin in june. And he could get up to 1 years in jail. He is accused of kidnapping Denise Huskins in march. He pled not guilty in that case. Every day it seems we are on track for another powerful el nino. That has a lot of bay area homeowners a little nervous after what happened last time around. People in fremont remember the last time el nino washed into california in 1998. Thats when a big slab of mission peak slit down the hills towards houses blow. The only damage was to the backyard of the rapper mc hammers hillside home which he has just sold. And the new owner said looked like a city could do something. And my thought was, how can a city stop a mountain . Although experts predict another big el nino is on the way, geologists dont believe this area is in any danger. And the chp still has a sig alert in place for the richmond area where the carlson boulevard onramp to west 80 is expected to be shut down until 7 00 this morning because of a big rig accident. And do keep in mind, tomorrow morning its going to be busy at the bay bridge. Closures beginning at 6 30 tomorrow morning in advance of the 6 45 scheduled implosion. Drivers in San Francisco have to deal with yet another traffic hassle through the weekend. A stretch of busy van ness avenue is closed between geary boulevard and post street for the third time this year. It was shut down just after midnight this morning and its set to reopen late sunday night. The closure is allowing construction of a tunnel between a hospital and medical office. Pilots are reporting more laser strikes than ever including right here in the bay area. 20 were reported wednesday night and there were more than 5300 this year. On wednesday night a plane in oakland was among those targeted. Pilots reported those blinding green beams coming from the ground in spite of tougher federal penalties. The numbers are climbing. Reports of laser strikes have doubled since 2010. Two republican state lawmakers want voters to decide whether to divert highspeed rail money toward water storage. Yesterday they submitted language for a proposed ballot measure. It would redirect 8 billion in rail bond money. The measure would also amend the state constitution to prioritize Drinking Water and irrigation. Today the city of hayward will have a grand Opening Ceremony for a new fire station with a unique feature including whats being called a firehouse clinic which will offer primary and Preventative Care services. Todays ceremony at the firehouse on huntwood avenue is set to begin at 1 p. M. And as liza said, part of the old bay bridge span is about to be blown away. [ blast ] caltrans released this test blast video showing what tomorrow mornings implosion will look like. A bubble curtain will be used to help keep marine life safe. The implosion will happen around 6 45 tomorrow morning or shortly afterwards. The bridge will be closed for just about 15 minutes prior to and during the implosion. Theres talk of removing overhead bus and streetcar wires for several blocks around Justin Herman plaza in San Francisco. Thats where super bowl city is planned. The wires would get in the way or could get in the way of some of the displays and activities planned for the fan village. But removing the wires wont be cheap. You know, i havent got an estimate yet of the cost of taking down the wires and putting them up but we have heard that it could be 7 figures. That better not come from public taxpayer dollars. One of the things we are committed to as the Host Committee is minimizing extra expense for the city and county of San Francisco. Plans are still being finalized whether to remove the wires and there has been no commitment from the Host Committee on where the money will come from. San Francisco Police are sweeping the sidewalks in the haight in the months since the two murders allegedly perpetrated by a group of drifters living at buena vista park. Sfpd arrested 20 people in that area. The arrests were for drug and weapons violations. But homeless advocates say the crackdown is making it harder for the homeless to get off the streets. Cant sleep in the park, cant sleep in the sidewalk, cant sit or lie. They cant do anything. We have young kids on the streets. Why arent our alarm bells going off . Police plan to continue enforcement through the end of the year. Googles selfdriving cars can navigate on their own but they havent figured out how to avoid the cops. A google driverless car was pulled over in Mountain View for going too slow. [ laughter ] it was going 25 in a 35 zone along el camino real. The officer talked to the operators about safe speeds. No ticket was issued. And google said its capped the speed at 25 Miles Per Hour for safety reasons. We knew that was going to happen eventually. Yes. Its caught on camera. How about that. All right. Unfortunately, we are going to start off in the richmond area with live pictures bringing you our first pictures now of this accident which happened overnight involving this big rig on its side. It has shut down the mcbryde on ramp to and from im sorry the carlson on ramp to westbound 80 shut down until 7 00 this morning. Accident is expected to be out there until at least 7 a. M. As your alternate continue to use Central Avenue. We dont know if anybody was hurt in this accident. We do know that there is a closure in place and so far traffic on the freeways is unaffected. Westbound 80 wide open just keep in mind that ramp will be shut down for a few hours. Meantime, over at the bay bridge its going to be busy tomorrow morning with a scheduled implosion. Its scheduled for 6 45 and caltrans will begin their rolling closure to keep everybody away from the bridge beginning at 6 30 tomorrow morning. Bart service will also be suspended and the transbay tube will be shut down during that period of time. So do keep that in mind if you normally take the bay bridge in the earlymorning hours, you will be running into those detours at least a 15minute closure in place. Now, heading for the bay bridge toll plaza, this morning it is wide open. Traffic is fine heading into the city. No accidents in San Francisco, but lots of street closures. And it is expected to cause a big delay through the weekend. Right now, van ness and geary are shut down. It will be closed until sunday night. This is because of the construction of that pedestrian tunnel near cpmc. Be prepared for delays getting through there. Lots of detours. San francisco drivers, looking okay this morning.
