Reporter for people who live around here and drive on highway 4, every day, which a lot of people do for the morning commute, these cameras cannot come soon enough. There have been 6 shootings along highway 4 in the past year including one that killed a mother of four. Pittsburg city leaders have voted to spend 1 00,000 for better surveillance and added patrols. Cameras will be placed in strategic spots and could provide critical information like license plate numbers. We think theres a time urgency to get the cameras u we want to prevent the shootings from happening in the first place. Reporter officers say an increase in violence along this corridor is gangs. What is Law Enforcement doing to get to the root of the violence . Reporter that is the tough thing when you talk about gang violence. They are working with the chp individual Police Departments. Also working closely with the richmond pd. Richmond also seeing its share of highway shootings recently so trying to share intelligence, talking with gang experts. But the spate of violence difficult to predict. Police are investigating a shooting that left several people injured in pittsburg last night. It happened around 9 00 on kingsley drive. Neighbors say that they heard several shots fired. Three people were taken to the hospital. They are expected to survive. Its not clear at this point whether any arrests were made. Family members of the san mateo pet groomer accused of killing a puppy say the man is innocent. Juan zarate was arrested sunday at the san mateo petsmart. A dog owner says he dropped off his dachshund to get groomed and three minutes later, the animal came out in rough shape. The owner said it was bleeding from the mouth and had trouble breathing. The suspect as uncle says zarate valued his work but the groomer tells us not everybody is cut out for it. I know he is innocent. You know, he just went out and bought all these tools for grooming and stuff. Thats something he really liked. Theres people that shouldnt be grooming. They dont have the temperament. A vet is working to figure out the cause of the dogs death. Zarate faces animal cruelty charges and is expected in court next month. We are getting our first look at selfdriving big rigs this morning. Sillicon valley startup auto just released this video of trucks driving on their own. It says it includes hardware and software that can be retrofitted on current trucks to make them fully autonomous. The drivers will be like supervisors. They will be on major highways in seven years according to one person. Trucking accidents, the drivers fall asleep. So thats not going to be a problem anymore so typically we think that selfdriving vehicle at its best will eliminate the stupid human errors that we all make. The startup is already testing trucks on california highways. Its entirely funded and started by tech bigwigs from google, apple and tesla. The company hasnt said when the technology will be available or how much it will cost. Expect to find warning labels on the soda and sugary drinks you buy in San Francisco starting this summer. The two disentanglements we have been successful recently over the last few weeks have been initiated by the fishermen. Whales will be along the coast for most of the summer but crab season ends next month. Help is on the way for air travelers dealing with long security lines. The tsa is sending five k9 teams adding more than 100 full time agents and increasing overtime at chicagos packed ohare airport. The move comes after a public outcry over the long security process. The chemical sunscreens you need to put them on about 15 minutes to actually activate the they are essentially a filter. They are by themselves much more efficient. And parents you want to hear this. Two sunscreens marketed for kids were labeled with spf 50 were found to have spf of just 8. Still, the makers stand by their products.
