Lets start in the south bay here. Southbound 280 after 7th street there is a twovehicle crash involving a minivan and car and it is blocking that right lane. So having crews out there right now trying to clear the scene. Moving to the south bay as well in milpitas, we have roadwork on westbound 237 and it is in the clearing stages as you can see. Its slowing down traffic badly. Just about 20 miles an hour. Okay. Moving on into the east bay, the altamont pass, slow already off 205 at just about 30 Miles Per Hour down in the north flynn road area we have some debris in the road a camper shell that came off a camper. Then free moving through livermore onto the dublin interchange. Heres a live look at that slow traffic in the commute direction. Altamont pass to 680 westbound will take you about 15 minutes. Thank you. Today kids across the world will be taking part in International Walk to school day but here in the bay area its getting political. Kpix 5s maria medina is live at San Jose City hall to explain how the mayor is now getting involved. Maria reporter yeah. Now, if you are getting your kids ready to go to school or about to drive through a school zone the san jose mayor wants you to listen up. Almost twothirds of kids in california live within walking and biking distance of their schools. But more than half of them are driven to school. So later this morning, the mayor and other city and county leaders will hold a News Conference for International Walk to school day but they are also going to push for measure b. If voters pass this in november it would bring 250 million to make sure theres a safe path for kids to walk and bike to school. Thats not all measure b would do. The money would also go to reducing Traffic Congestion with highway improvements and it also will finish the bart extension from san jose to santa clara. If passed, how much is this going to cost us here in santa clara . Well, its a half cent sales tax over 30 years and its supposedly going to bring in billions and thousands of jobs. Kpix 5s jackie ward is live in our newsroom with more on a hoax thats now becoming a national trend. Jackie reporter this is a craze thats been at the center of dozens of hoaxes in 23 states. Now the Oakland School police chief says the threat to his schools is so serious that he put into a violent category. The police chief says creepy clown messages were posted on instagram and directly targeted Oakland Schools. There were two specific threats to two specific schools but he wouldnt say which ones. The antioch and Fairfield School districts have also been targeted. Bay area Law EnforcementOfficials Say there is no credibility to the threats and that the schools are safe. Clowning has gone through several definitions and, um, part of whats happening in the culture today is that we have individuals who are clearly mentally ill who, you know, are, um, donning masks and scaring people. And you know, the whole clown horror thing, its a very specific thing that has nothing at all whatever to do with real clowning. So that was sarah more, the director at the clown conservatory in San Francisco. She says more than anything, true clowning is not about scaring people. Its about being a human cartoon and making people smile. Nationwide at least 12 clowns have been arrested and one School District in connecticut says it will ban clown costumes for halloween this season. In the newsroom, jackie ward, kpix 5. The White House Press secretary says he isnt sure if president obama has been briefed on the clown craze. But he stressed local cops with wise to take action when calls come in. Obviously, you know, this is a situation that local Law Enforcement authorities take quite seriously and they should carefully and thoroughly review perceived threats. He said he read about the clown scare. Some Police Departments are warning people on social media to dial 911 if they think a clown could be dangerous. Were tracking Hurricane Matthew this morning. The u. S. National Hurricane Center says its spreading over the bahamas and is heading for the united states. It hit cuba and haiti yesterday with winchester of nearly 145 Miles Per Hour and heavy rain. Streets looked like rivers and drivers had to be rescued. Matthew could make landfall along the east coast tomorrow. The governor of florida has already declared a state of emergency. There will be massive destruction that we havent seen in years. The white house is sending supplies to emergency staging areas and federal officials want residents to have enough food and water to last at least three days. The 2016 president ial candidates are back on the campaign trail today after a fiery vicepresident ial debate in virginia last night. A man was shot about 8 20 last night at 15th and mission streets. Investigators say the victim is hospitalized with life threatening injuries. So far theres no word of any suspects. Several suspects have been arrested in connection with violent home breakins around the bay area. One incident happened last month when roberts pistol whipped this orinda man and shot his wife a School Board Member in the city. The last few months homes in livermore, fremont and danville have been targeted by robbers. But Police Believe that six suspects that they have taken into custody might be responsible. In the robberies the victims are shaken up but in good help. Body cameras in sunnyvale helped some three cases in the past month. The department started using the body cameras in september. The Governors Office for Emergency Services made the announcement yesterday a week after a rash of small earthquakes along the san andreas fault. The strongest quake under the salton sea, 4. 3. A new warning associated with toxic algae has popped up in another part of the bay area. Lake temescal in oakland and quarry lakes in fremont are closed to swimmers and pets because of the algae. They are open for fishing. This is the third year in a row that Lake Temescal has closed because of toxic algae. Actor ben stiller says controversial Prostate Cancer screening ultimately saved his life. The test is called psa. Critics say its been known to cause false positive results and unnecessary treatment. Stiller says he took the test two years ago. Doctors were able to catch the cancer early and remove the tumor and now the zoo lander star is urging men to get checked out too with any type of screening. The new Prince Museum will open tomorrow as scheduled after a zoning conflict threatened to postpone it.
