Satellite and radar, this is it. When you look due west and you see the clouds gathering thats a plume of moisture to the west of us. That track will be encouraging rain to spread across the area. By early monday morning up to 7 inches of rain in the north bay up to 5 inches due east. Up to 6 inches of rain from San Francisco all the way into the peninsula. San francisco should see over 3 inches of rain. 2 to 4 inches of rain across the Santa Clara Valley in the south bay. And a half to a full foot of rain anticipated in the Santa Cruz Mountains. By saturday night, sunday morning, there will be flooding in the bay area. I havent even talked about the gusty winds over 40 Miles Per Hour. Today the winds increase during the afternoon hours about so to 20 Miles Per Hour. These are high temperatures. 40s and 50s with increasing clouds during the day. In southern santa clara county, folks at an rv park are gearing up to evacuate ahead of the storm. Kpix 5s maria medina joins us live from morgan hill to explain why this rv park is so vulnerable. Maria. Reporter good morning, michelle. Yeah. These residents were ordered to get out by 5 00 tonight or their homes could be flooded. Or they could be trapped inside the thousand trails campground. These people are no stranger to flooding. Last year, this was the scene captured by cell phone by a woman who lives here at thousand trails after heavy rains caused the uvas reservoir to spill over into the uvas river and that river runs right through the thousand trails campground and right on a bridge thats the only way to get in and out of the campground. They were suddenly evacuated last year and had only minutes to get out. And we just thought about get over that bridge and then well figure it out later. Well lose our trailer and everything inside it. Reporter so dozens were told to stay at a nearby church. Thats where they slept until those waters receded so they are no stranger again to flooding. This year the Property Owner has told them they can stay at a nearby rv park. Right now its at more than 100 capacity so theres that high possibility we could see even more dramatic flooding than we saw on the cell phone video last year. Maria medina, kpix 5. Today in San Francisco utility crews will catch sewer catch basins for the upcoming storm. Workers will be deep cleaning the basins with highpowered vacuum trucks to minimize street flooding that plagues San Francisco during the rain. Right now traffic is moving through the sierra again. Interstate 80 is back open but chains are still required. So far the sierra got 7 feet of new snow. With all that fresh powder skiers are hitting the slopes. But warm weather will dump more rain in the sierra more than they have seen in years and the snow will melt. It could be the last good driving day, too. Now, taking a look at the slow traffic of the morning along the Altamont Pass, terrible yesterday and then terrible again this morning. This is due to a multivehicle crash westbound 580 after north flynn road. The crash is on the shoulder but the backup is at 8 Miles Per Hour. And chp has record that this crash was due to black ice. So i suggest make sure you dont slam on your brakes if you do hit black ice and make sure you steer into the skid. Altamont pass to 680 will take 17 minutes. From hayward to foster city a quick 13 minutes and same story on the nimitz freeway. Looking good in both directions here, 238 in san leandro to the maze on 880 northbound will just take you 16 minutes and then if you are headed into downtown oakland from the carquinez carquinez bridge will take you 18 minutes and through the toll plaza it will be quick because those metering lights are not on yet. The chronicle reports sheehy will fill the open district 8 spot which was left by scott weiner. Weiner was elected to the state senate. Mayor lee will announce it this morning. San francisco transit officials have approved the Environmental Impact report for a 300 million project along the geary boulevard corridor. They voted unanimously on a plan to build dedicated bus lanes on geary from market all the way to 34th avenue. The 38 bus line carries 52,000 riders yearly. But many object to overcrowded conditions, uneven wait times and inconsistent trips due to traffic delays. Still, some Business Owners in the city wanted this vote postponed to let three upcoming supervisors weigh in. A new proposed bill is looking to crackdown on self driving cars that are operating on california roads without permits. Under the legislation, companies without permits would face stiff fines and penalties of up to 25,000 per vehicle per day. Right now, state law does require companies to get permits for selfdriving cars. But violations are only treated as an infraction. This proposed bill comes just weeks after uber came under fire for picking up passengers in selfdriving cars without permits. The Company Refused to get the permit and left the state. A contest to design new public cars is under way. Any medium is okay from pens and paint to Computer Generated art. The theme is oakland its libraries or both. The storm system that brought freezing temperatures and dumped feet of snow in the west is headed east. As hena daniels reports, the south is also bracing for snowfall to start this weekend. In west seneca near buffalo, the monster lakeeffect snow stranded students on school buses, while dozens more were stuck at school. Significant Flooding Risk for Santa Cruz Mountains. Sierra nevada. And the central valley. We will see urban and small stream flooding around most of the bay area. This is the swath of clouds. This is the atmospheric river. This is those clouds that you were looking at. This is the river of rain heading our way. And it goes all the way back to the hawaiian islands. So its a warmer storm very showery with gusty winds and now its moving in quicker. We have the rain beginning in santa cruz and the peninsula about 9 p. M. If our computer models serve us correctly. 7 a. M. The heaviest precipitation around the Santa Cruz Mountains. By the way kpix 5 morning news will be on at 7 a. M. Thats a lot of rain in a short amount of time. There will be flooding. The potential of downed power lines and definitely some downed trees especially those douglas fir.
