Reporter San Francisco city treasurer Jose Cisneros is helping launch the program in an effort to make City Residents more financially stable and also help them build up their Emergency Savings. Its called saver life and basically, its going to pay people to save their own money. Half of all americans dont have enough savings to cover an unexpected 400 expense. Thats according to the Federal Reserve bank. That means sometimes people cant pay their rent or pay property taxes or utility bills. That costs the city of San Francisco 24 to 54 million every year. Now, thats where saver life comes in. The idea is to get people to start saving just a little bit each month. Residents can sign up and if they are able to put away 20 a month for six months, saver life is actually going to throw in another 10 per month on top of that. Basically another 60 paying people to save. Now, all that matching money is coming from Nonprofit Group earn and also corporate sponsors. Once enrolled in the program, people will also get tips from Financial Planners to help them prepare for the future. So the city is looking for 1,000 residents to sign up for the program. They are hoping that once people complete the sixmonth program they will be in the habit of saving a little each month hopingfully helping to make meeting unexpected expenses easy to cover like medical bills, car repairs, Something Like that.
