Reporter in marin county, the combination of king tides and pouring rain provided a one two punch between sausalito and mill valley bringing the usual flooding. At half moon bays morada beach, long anticipated repair work began to stop the shoreline from crumble further and taking out any more roads. But for San Mateo County crews, the unstable surface and heavy equipment made for precarious work. With the arm reaching out, you know, over the banks, it could lean and fall over or the road could cave underneath. Reporter metal plates were spread out on top of the road for support as vwsized boulders were lowered into the crushing surf. Its really sad. I think, um, all of the erosion and just watching it fall in without being, you know, shored up is kind of sad. Reporter 30year morada beach resident gail lamar hopes its not too little too late. I think the problem is they wait until, you know, theres a catastrophe. Reporter now, people out here say they are happy to see this section of the shoreline getting stabilized and shored up in this el nino winter but they are current about what will happen with the rest of it they are concerned about what will happen with the rest of it as el nino progresses. Those are medicals. But with a million visitors in the bay area for the big game, the city could get that many calls in a single week . We have increased our 911 caller capabilities by 40 so during the week of celebration folks with a need to call 911 will be able to get through to the com center and get an officer or whatever needs they have to get dispatched to them for help. In fact, santa clara is opening a second com center inside levis stadium for super bowl week. Normal Staffing Levels will be tripled to cover any 911 calls plus any game related emergencies. Thats the crisis that were under right now is that people cant afford to be a teacher. Reporter its a simple lesson in mathematics. Bay area cost of living is high starting teaching salary low. That equals a shortage in teachers. People arent going into teaching anymore because the pay is lower than especially in this area. Reporter a new report by the learning policy institute says the supply of new k through 12 teachers is at a 12 year low. But the demand is high as schools try to hire the thousands of teachers lost during the recession. We lost 30,000 teachers during the recession. Teachers were making paycuts and furlough days. Reporter the president of the california teachers association, that represents more than 300,000 teachers statewide, says to fight this battle, they are reaching out to college and Even High School students to sell the idea on the career. But convincing them to take a 50,000 a year salary is tough. Basic rent is your monthly salary. We dont pay salaries we need because they were cut in the recession. Reporter some School Districts offer housing for teachers and signing bonuses. A Monterey School district is offering 10,000. Another School District is considering offering money to new teachers. Its a tough profession to enter in the bay area. Some new questions tonight about a Deadly Police shooting in pleasanton. It was suggested a teen shot and killed by an officer last summer was out of control and under the influence. Kpix 5s da lin on the autopsy results that seemed to paint a different picture. He didnt deserve it. Reporter six months after a Pleasanton Police officer shot and killed his son, john deming, sr. , still hasnt gotten any answers. Thanksgiving, christmas, his birthday is coming up, it wont get any easier. Reporter john, a reserve Police Officer for the city of oakdale, says the new autopsy report backs up his belief the Pleasanton Police are covering up a murder. Its coldblooded murder. Reporter on july 5, 2015, Police Responded to a Burglar Alarm at a classic car dealership. Officers say they spotted him inside acting like a mad man running around jumping on cars. Screaming, very loud. [ inaudible ] smashing things. Reporter they say he even threw a 50pound floor jack at officers. Beanbags and tasers couldnt stop him. When he attacked officer kunkle and punched him to the point where he almost blacked out the officer shot him in the head and stomach. Shortly after the home was raided for drugs as a possible cause for psychotic behavior. The coroner autopsy report shows john deming, jr. , didnt have any alcohol or drugs in his system. The report finds he was not shot at close range as previously suggested. Tells us they are lying and its painted as a murder. Theres enough here to arrest this officer on murder charges. Now to our nations capital. This is a live look at a snow covered white house. People in the area are preparing for an epic blizzard. Forecasters are calling for two feet of snow or more and wind gusts up to 55 miles an hour. That storm is causing problems at airports across the country. A United Airlines flight slid off a runway at Ohare Airport in chicago today after arriving from San Francisco. There were 179 passengers and six crew on board. No injuries were reported. The planes engines were still running as emergency crews arrived on the scene. Buses were brought in to take passengers to their gates. Last month another united flight slid off the same runway. Back here at sfo, long lines and dozens of cancellations. The big airports on the east coast already shutting down because of the storm. 140 cancellations just at sfo today. I never travel where it was bad snowing so i never been through this before. Now im living were living through and its not fun. Passengers were trying to make the best of their delay. This will impact the bay area coming up over the next 24 hours. How much rainfall . Not a ton. You have about a quarter inch of rainfall today. By this time tomorrow plan on additional quarter inch less than that for hayward more than that for napa about a third inch for santa rosa, one sixth of an inch for San Francisco.
