These three supervisors, jane kim, david campos and john avalos, are calling for chief greg suhr to go. I think at this point chief suhr is a distraction to ensuring real reform to the Police Department. Supervisor kim also says there should be a National Search for a new police chief. She cites a recent report that outlined issues within the Police Department concerning hiring, training and discipline of officers. There are supervisors who support chief suhr. They include scott weiner and mark farrell and this afternoon farrell said that chief suhr has to be the one to lead reforms within the Police Department. He has been the most Progressive Police chief we have had in decades in the city of San Francisco. No outsider is going to be able to come in and implement those roar forms in an effective man manner. Farrell also said it would be giving into mob rule to fire the chief. A couple of San Francisco cops who reported a fellow officers racist remarks are being called snitches. New at 6 00, mark kelly on the influential voice calling out those officers. Mark. Reporter well, allen, except for using the word snitches, he stands by his comments 100 and said theres a witch hunt under way for cops. Gary delaney president of the San Francisco Police Officers association for a decade and a consultant with them for three years now took his frustrations to facebook. Officers are now being encourage to be trained snitches on one another, he wrote. He is talking about two bayview officers who stepped up and reported a sergeant who allegedly used racist and sexist language talking about black people he patrols in the bayview. He writes, two other officers who heard the statement immediately raced to their superiors and snitched him off as our officers are now taught to do. This officer did nothing wrong other than making an ill advised statement and now they want to hang him and then brag about it to the media. Disgusting. The former poa says that was really a bad thick and they just should have kept their mouths shut and they shouldnt have snitched off is appalling. Reporter judge cordell says the poa should reject his statement because police code of conduct essentially says officers have a duty to report bad behavior. One of the rules is, if you see wrongdoing among your other officers, it is your duty and obligation to report it, which is what these officers did when they heard a sergeant making a very racist statement. Reporter the Police Commission is taking a look at the officers case right now and they will decide whether he should be disciplined or even fired. As for delagnes, he said the officer has no past history of racism and he believes that should be considered in this case. Live at San Francisco pd, mark kelly, kpix 5. The Appeals Court will now look at whether that is allowed. Maa, an un measure aa an unprecedented task could be coming to nine bay area counties. John ramos on the initiative to save the bay. Reporter in much of the bay area, where the water meets the land, it looks like this. But 100 years ago it looked like this. Most of the development around here since the gold rush has destroyed the tidal marshes that the bay needs to be healthy. Reporter the marshes clean the water, provide a nursery for wildlife and prevent flooding by absorbing storm surges in a time of rising sea levels. To raise funds for marshland restoration projects, conservationists have succeeded in getting measure aa on the june ballot. For just 12 per parcel, per year, over 20 years, this measure raises half a billion dollars. Reporter but the real concern about measure aa is not over the amount of the tax or even what it will be spent on. Its about how the measure got on the ballot in the first place. In january, six appointed members of a regional board called the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority voted unanimously for the First Time Ever to put a single tax measure on the balance in all nine bay area counties. Many of the counties who would be paying the tax didnt even have a voting representative on the board. All of a sudden you have this wanting to go towards a regional governance. Reporter she is a libertarian activist hoe says measure aa removes all local control of the issue. Proponents say a regional tax is fair because everyone benefits from the healthy bay. It sets up a situation in which renters in downtown San Francisco will be voting to raise the property taxes of someone living in, say, sonoma county. And how the money would be spent is at the sole discretion of Restoration Authority. To put in place something regional that the voters dont have immediate access to, thats the issue. Reporter it set a new precedent about how taxes can be raised. Protecting the bay is clearly in everyones interest. But politics has a way of muddying the waters. John ramos, kpix 5. The Restoration Authority says it has about 0,000 acres 0,000 acres of mar 30,000 acres of marshland restored. Sanders visited the bay area yesterday including the stop in oakland and he is due back in oakland on sunday. Meantime, in burlingame, police are asking if you have seen this man, he is accused of using that chair to break a window during a protest against donald trump at last months California Republican convention. The clashes spilled out into the streets. It got so bad that trumps motorcade had to make a uturn on 101. The republican frontrunner had to walk down the barricade and climb a hill to enter the building. Political gridlock could stall some of the bay areas most necessary transportation projects. A study put out by tripp names the most underfunded projects in the bay area, some may not even have money to break ground. They include the interchanges at interstate 680 and highway 4 martinez. Also in danger, interstates 80, 680 and highway 12 in solano county. Projects also at risk, bart improvements. The caltrain rail extension, the widening of highway 152 in gilroy, and congestionbased pricing to relieve traffic in San Francisco. Thats mostly because lawmakers cant agree on funding.
