So when he heard a Real Estate Developer plans to replace the clubs two dozen Tennis Courts with offices and condos, one word came to mind. I think its tragic. Tragic to take away this valuable facility that provides recreation for so many people. Reporter bill isnt alone. The nonprofit San Franciscos for sports and recreation says it has gathered thousands of signatures, qualifying the dwindles recreational space as a front and center issue. Seth socklow says if the voters pass it, any recreational facility in the city, public, or private cannot be torn down before a similar facility gets built. Thats not all. The replacement facility has to be of similar quality, and quantitity. Thats what the measure says. Reporter a spokesperson for the developer says project proponents have heard their concerns. As discussions are still underway, we are not ready to discuss details at this time. We cant tear down everything that isnt a condo, or an office building. Theres got to be some recreation in the city, and theres got to be some protection for that. Reporter in addition to the offices and the condos, this someplace would also have low income housing, and a rec center. The athletes point out that that rec center didnt have any Tennis Courts, and it would be 1 10 the size and the space of what they have here now. The 4th of july is going to be remembered as the night one family lost its home to illegal fireworks. Flames engulfed the garage at the vallejo home just after 1 00 a. M. This happened on dennenger street. Firefighters had to use a chainsaw to get into that home. They say somebody had thrown smoulderring illegal fireworks next to the house. The flames spread into the garage, and eventual to the rest of the home. Investigators say fireworks might have sparked a five acre fire at homes near oakley. The Police Department says the older of the two boys bore the brunt of that impact. He is currently listed in Critical Condition with a head injury.
