A man walks up with a gun in his right hand. The woman drops the purse and puts both hands up in the air. It happened last thursday morning at the corner of east 16th and 3 sixth avenue as folks were going to work in the fruitvale district. Neighbors too fearful to show their faces say its a it common problem. They arecasion the neighborhood looking for opportunities. This is the normal m. O. For them in this neighborhood to, you know on the evening they come and follow people from bart. Reporter they are usually driving around in groups. They will either follow peoples cars or look for someone who has just parked. This actually happened to my father twice in one year. In both cases, they robbed him after he park his car. The first time they parked half block away so my father couldnt identify the suspect car. The second time they pulled up right behind him and robbed him as he was walking away from the car. This video brings back some bad memories for oakland councilman dan call. A gunman robbed him near his house a few years ago. He believes they followed his car. San Francisco Police have arrested anthony rice for stealing packages from a post office on pine street starting in april in june rice was caught on camera by a post Office Employee who is hiding under a truck when the employee confronted him, rice brandished a knife and walked off with three packages. Rice is now facing felony theft charges. A bay area teen on vacation uses his drone to help nab a pair of boat thieves and it was all caught on camera. Elizabeth cook is here with the video. Liz. Veronica, the video shows the suspects driving away in a stolen boat. It was captured on the drones camera. It happened wednesday on Camano Island off the coast of washington. The teen says he was vacationing with the family when he heard the engine to their zodiac boat start up. He saw people trying to tie it to their boat. He grabbed his drone to track down the suspect. The boy was able to see where they were going before he lost them. Deputies arrested both suspects when they got to shore. Thank you. A drone helped millbrae firefighters fight a fouralarm fire. It engulfed a Community Center and it wasnt an accident. The fire broke out just before 4 a. M. On the exterior of the building leading investigators to call the fire suspicious. Chopper 5 captured the devastating aftermath. The Community Center once home to summer camp, daycare and Adult Classes is burned to the ground. We are going to have a bigger better Community Center soon maybe but at the same time, seeing this, i mean, you know, just reflecting with some people that you over there we shared so many memories here. The Community Center is considered a complete loss. No reports of any injuries. A fire in san jose burned more than 30 people out of their apartments. Reporter five days after a small electrical fire led to even greater sprinkler water damage, at this low income apartment building, residents were finally able to retrieve a few belongings. A mess. Reporter king and about 30 other displaced people are sheltered at this middle school gym. They may not have all the comforts of home, but thanks to sheriffs deputies, they now have some comfort food. Since the office got involved the sheriff contacted our command staff. We were able to raise money to buy food and get dvds for the families out there so theres some sort of comfort for them. Reporter the deputies raised about 500 and made a costco run all in the same morning. They brought the food to the school where the vets and families are staying. The red cross is sheltering and feeding them three meals a day but the chips and drinks fruits and snacks make their stay a little more like home. It helps us present an image to our clients that we have an abundance of food and that were able to help them. Reporter not just food. The sheriff also offered to collect and wash victims clothing at the elmwood jail laundry. It adds up to a different kind of community policing. A former San Mateo Police officer is accused of raping and assaulting women on the job. 31yearold Noah Winchester was arrested near his home in stockton this morning on 22 felony charges involving five different women. Those charges include rape, kidnapping and battery. The incidents all happened between july 2013 and october of 2015. During that time, winchester worked as an officer for the Sacramento CommunityCollege District and as a Police Officer in san mateo. Auto traders said there was no mention of how and when tesla will be profitable. Part of the reason . Musk says they are reinvesting their cash back into the company to increase production capacity. He says, quote, the car slammed on the brakes before i could. And we stopped just inches from hitting the pedestrian. Im not sure if i would have been able to stop before hitting him. Im so glad the car did. Last month tesla revealed that a model s driver died in a crash in florida when autopilot was engaged. It happened in may. The tesla was unable to detect a tractortrailer in its path due to a brightly lit sky. An unusual second recount is going on in san jose where a city councilman running for re election keeps challenging the results. After the first recount which was automated, challenger held a lead of 28 votes over councilman man nguyen in district 4. The margin just a fraction of a percent. But it keeps shifting slightly most recently because of the discovery of three dozen ballots that were left out of the initial recount. The trailing incumbent is paying with his own credit card to cover the cost of a new hand recount but the challenger says the size of the margin does not matter. I am opening the opponents challenges and with those type of challenges i am confident that the lead will hold. This all, more than 20,000 ballots have to be reexamined.
