The nazis are down here with bats and knives and are attacking people. Then, yes. The movement has a right to kind of get that out of its community. Reporter both sides are not backing down. The city of berkeley sent out a late press release this afternoon saying that the police will arrest anyone caught with rocks, knives, bats, sticks, anything that can be used as a weapon. The settlement announced today the dean has agreed to pay 50,000 to a charity and another 50,000 to pay her attorney fees. In the same settlement regents have agreed to drop all charges against the former Law School Dean. They are receiving these loans at the rate that the federal government gives loans to banks. To give us a raise. But yet they find the money to give themselves loans. Sunnyvale does have another Home Loan Program for employees. But not at the same Interest Rates and over such a longterm as the executive loans. Employees say those loans are small. About 22 workers are getting them. San jose has been ranked first in the nation for the most competitive housing market. A new report from red fin found 69 of hopes sold for more than the list 69 of homes sold for more than the listed price, San Francisco with 66 going over asking price and oakland a close third. The tight inventory pushes the prices up. The number of homes for sale in san jose fell 25 from last year. That pushed the median home price to 957,000. A north bay city says its about to implement a quiet zone for the new smart train over the objections of some train officials. [ horn and bells ] those blaring horns have been bothering some people in sonoma and marin counties as tests continue. And next wednesday, a quiet zone will go into effect in petaluma for all eight of its crossings. It restricts engineers from using their horns except in emergencies. People living near the tracks say its about time. Its just disturbing. It shakes the house. Its loud. And they have only been testing petaluma does have permission from federal railroad regulators but smart managers insist that only they have the authority to allow quiet zones. And they say the horns are important for safety. They will go into effect in san rafael and novato when smart train begins serving passengers there this spring. Apple has never officially confirmed the existence of an autonomous driving car until today. The Company Reportedly has a separate organization of 1,000 employees working on what it calls project tighten in sunnyvale. Apple is believed to be focusing on software instead of an actual car. In the meantime uber is pulling back the curtain on its finances. As a privately held company it has not disclosed its finances until today. The Ride Hailing Company says it doubled bookings in 2016 to 20 billion. But it posted an operating loss of 2. 8 billion. And in spite of company controversies, revenue increased 74 last year to nearly 3 billion. The battle over sanctuary cities and counties played out today in federal court. Here in San Francisco the key question should a judge take action to block President Trumps executive order . Kpix 5 political reporter melissa caen is here with a look at the arguments on both sides. Reporter yeah, ken. Um, you might remember in his first week as president , President Trump issued an executive order saying that jurisdictions that dont comply with federal law will not receive federal funds. San francisco and santa clara filed lawsuits to try to stop any funding cuts. And today, the parties argued over whether a judge should issue an injunction to put a timeout on that executive order. And what the president s attorney said may surprise you. [ yelling ] reporter President Trump has made no secret of his desire to take federal funds away from sanctuary cities. He had this to say well after the election on super bowl sunday. The sanctuary cities as now im very much opposed to sanctuary cities. They breed crime. Theres a lot of problems. If we have to well defund. Reporter but today, lawyers representing the president say the executive order he issued to defund sanctuary cities only reinforces current law and policy. Judge orick asked if thats the case what would the purpose of this executive order be . In response, assistant attorney general chad readler said its a perfectly permissible use of bully pulpit. Executives do this all the time to highlight issues they care deeply about. But why would the Administration Issue an executive order a legal document just to highlight an issue . He walked past our camera refusing to talk. But Santa Clara County counsel James Williams says, President Trump used an official order because he wants to scare cities into abandoning their sanctuary policies. They are trying to have it both ways. They are trying to on the one hand coerce changes in policies but then on the other hand in court say oh, actually we are not doing anything. San Francisco Deputy City Attorney molly lee. We brought this lawsuit because San Francisco is not going to be bullied by President Trump. We have seen today the president s attorney step back from his [ indiscernible ] reporter still what the president s attorneys say and what the president says can be two very different things. We still need a court order. We cant rely on the representations of the administration in court. Reporter a ruling on the injunction is expected in a matter of days. So probably sometime next week. And if you need proof that the executive order is putting pressure on local governments, already miami, florida and lansing, michigan have moved away from being sanctuary cities. Reporter a south bay family reeling this evening afternoon a mother and daughter were killed by a suspected drunk driver. The crash happened late last night on Great America parkway near 101 in san jose. The victims had just left a Holy Thursday Service at our lady of peace church. Kpix 5s kiet do has the latest now from san jose. Kiet. Reporter there were two relatives inside the victims car who survived this crash. They are both now here at Regional Medical center in East San Jose in stable condition. This family has been going through a lot. They are in shock now, they are just stunned, trying to make some kind of sense of this tragedy. On Great America parkway and highway 1 one, the skidmarks tell the story. Last night vinod bonthu was driving his red mercedes on 101 exiting the freeway going about 40 miles an hour. He was trying to veer right when he lost control and hit the median. Bonthu ended up on the opposite side of the road and crashed head on into a subaru. Carina kubow, 61, and her mother, angela bontilao, had just left a thursday Night Service at our lady of peace. They were killed after leaving church. Very tragic for the families and for the community and for all the parishioners there. Yeah. Very sad. Reporter bonthu survived the crash with major injuries but is now under arrest at valley medical center. The chp said his blood alcohol level was over the limit. Have somebody give you a ride, somebody pick up. These are preventable collisions. They dont have to happen. Reporter the family says 92 yearold angela was the mitre arc of a tightknit filipino family with deep roots in san jose. Beloved by everyone she was called the grandmother of grandmothers. San jose Police Arrested three people for killing 20yearold [indiscernible name] on tully road back on january 31. Andrew liu, kevin tran and Christopher Lee were taken into custody this week. No details on a motive. A San Francisco man is baffled by a bizarre home break in. He has been targeted twice by this same man. This guy wound up dancing around on his balcony. Not just because of what this suspect did once he got inside. But it also appears he never intended to take anything in the first place. Except for maybe the man who lived heres sense of security. Last friday he found a stranger had barricaded himself in his twin peaks home. Then he comes to the window runs up to the window and holding a bottle of jagermeister next to his face he starts screaming reporter he captured the whole thing on snapchat. Check out the creepy guy on my balcony. Living in my house. Reporter things only got stranger from there. He goes to my room and he just he, like, dances around, completely naked for hours. Literally hours reporter we now know the suspect is 22yearold Nicholas Davis and that he is known to police. He is facing felony charges for burglarizing a home on divisadero two weeks ago. Police released davis wednesday night. Thats when it all started back up again. He comes straight back to my howls 3 00 in the morning, he starts banging on the door. Reporter pavan says he wait to call police until the next day. They told him to be prepared to use force if necessary. I dont appreciate the idea of, like, me just, you know, shotting people that come to my shooting people that come to my house. Its absolute madness. Reporter he would like to see more patrols instead, considering its happened twice in a week. He says he doesnt feel safe in his home. Video from this afternoon, state water managers started releasing more water this morning. They need to make room for more rain and, of course, the snow melt thats expected this spring. Over the Lake Oroville spillway where you can see water cascading down at the. Of the break shooting up in the area like a geyser continuing down to the canyon that it cuts when it broke earlier this year. Down at the bottom of the screen you can see a lot of large construction vehicles. A huge amount of construction took place but as you look at those vehicles, those large bulldozers, dump trucks, gives you an idea of how much water is coming here. Chopper 5 pilot got a good look at it. The spillway will stay in use for at least the next couple of weeks. The water goes into the Feather River but we have been told that there is no danger of any downstream flooding. Paul is here and there is more rain in the forecast. Right . We have some rain for the holiday weekend. A lot of snow melt in the sierra. Theres a ton of snow up there. So what we dont want a couple of weeks from now when it does if it does get warmer is to have all that snow melt at once. We want a prolonged snow melt over a couple of months but for us what you care about is that easter forecast. Really hasnt changed but now as we get closer to Easter Sunday we can begin to refine exactly when we will see some showers on sunday.
