How swift water rescue teams are preparing for a very busy season. Reporter area firefighters are taking part in a training on the river. The exercise is helping crews develop the skills to help save lives near moving water. When you have high water, moving water with all the snags we have on the water we need firefighters to be prepared. Training happens throughout the year but swift water exercises have been taking part more frequently because the snow pack melting. With all the water, snow pack 180 , the river is full, flowing full, yeah, major concern. Reporter firefighters simulate a rescue down the river using rope teb necks. They learn how to communicate and problem solve with limited gear and resources. We have to stay current with that. Water moving fast. Swift like it is. It is very deceptive. It looks slow but it is moving quick. The current down the river is 4,000 cubic feet per second and with downed trees it makes makes for a dangerous situation and training exercises like this very crucial. Important to keep current with training and give the public the best we can. The teams say they have been called out for several swift water rescues in the past few weeks.
