Reporter for the second time this year, the Alameda CountySheriffs Department lost a deputy who worked at the santa rita jail. This morning, it was 50year old sroeuy khin heading home to stockton from his overtime shift. He just worked the midnight shift and was heading home. He was just trying to do his best to earn some extra money to take care of his wife and family. Reporter amid the chaos, chp officers found khin s bag inside his vehicle. They covered his body with an American Flag and honoring him with a salute. The sheriff says this loss is hitting his officers especially hard. Its too much too soon. Its really tragic. A commuter bus carrying 51 tesla employees from the fremont factory to stockton rearended the vw beating of khin crushing the car. That portion of 580 was closed from 7 a. M. To 2 p. M. , delays nearly two hours, backing up traffic for eight to ten miles. Tesla said they are sad and all employees on the bus are unharmed and accounted for. The driver was an independent contractor. In february, he was hit and killed by an inmate bus while work telling santa rita jail. The same jail where deputy khin worked. Foley worked in Law Enforcement for nearly 40 years. New at 6 00, homeowners in the Oakland Hills say they are being hit with big fines for fire inspections. Fines many say were issued by mistake. Our julie watts chased down the citys fire officials today for some answers. The invoices are very generic. They dont really say anything. Reporter art says he was blindsided by the bill from oaklands Fire Prevention bureau. They said he owed more than 600 for two Vegetation Management reinspections. Nobody left anything on my door. Theres just a bill. A bill for im not sure what for. Reporter and he is not alone. When art posted the citation on next door he got hundreds of replies from neighbors with similar complaints. Some of these people received invoices retroactively up to three years. Reporter a common theme . They couldnt reach anyone at the city to get answers. Now, clearing property is a serious concern in the Oakland Hills. A message to Council Members the city administrator says they are now invoicing for vegetation inspection fees dating back as far as 2012. But the city admits it could have done a better job informing the public. That message failed to address other concerns like the statute of limitations on these fees and inspections reportedly performed in the middle of the night after our repeated calls and emails went unanswered we visited the Fire Prevention bureau. Reporter but instead of 30 days to fix it, city records show the inspector came back and issued a fine just three days later people in the community are concerned that these invoices are being produced at such alarming rates because the city is trying to raise money for new fire inspectors. Oaklands Fire Department has been under scrutiny following that deadly ghost ship fire and at the same time a recent audit found for years the city was failing to bill homeowners for these reinspections.
