There was a letter addressed to the police chief and city administrator that says oakland residents are treated as suspect when is we are victims and arrested at disproportionate rates and white suspects are treated more leniently and one example the letter gives a shooting spree in east oakland. A white suspect opened fire in this neighborhood despite calls to police there was no manhunt until the suspect went on a second spree. That would not have happened if it was africanamerican. It is a busy weekend. We have managers out here and managers in their working hard. Hotels are completely booked including the marriott and some of the guests are from out of town, some live near by. It will add 45 minutes to your drive. A big drive in big sur. L tran has a bold plan to tackle the huge landslide. Instead of tunneling through it, they will build a new road over it. And it will do part of the work. Reporter cal tran is recovering data at mud creek and the real work begins, tackling the massive mudslides. Nobody has seen something this large. Cal tran says winter rain soaked and destabilized the hillside. This is 155 feet of material on top of this berm or on top of this slide material. Cal tran has a plan to get the highway back open but building a roadway excess of the existing highway that will travel over the slide. Embankments and netting will do the work. We can pave a new highway that is smooth and flat enough that it wont be a mountain driveway. It will have a wider of a lane. Local businesses tell us that they have been waiting for the construction to begin. The road closure has been tough on tourism. They are excited that steps are being taken to get the highway back open.
