Reporter lawmakers supporting these gun control measures are trying to close loopholes in californias laws which are already some of the strongest in the nation. Among the bills, one that would require background checks for ammunition purchases. Another mandates a person to get a state serial number before making or assembling a gun. There is a bill that requires the reporting of a lost or stolen gun in five days. And two measures aimed at large capacity magazines prohibiting the possession of any that hold more than ten rounds and cracking down on detachable magazines the socalled bullet button. Thats a debate thats been ongoing for years and ultimately this may be up to voters. Lieutenant governor gavin newsom has proposed a Gun Control Initiative for the November Ballot. And that would require a lot of the same measures that up for a vote in the senate this morning. It sounds like that could make todays vote dicey politically. Yes. Some lawmakers may hold back today wanting to let voters weigh in. The Senate President tried to get newsom to hold off on his initiative so lawmakers could tackle the issue but he declined. Thank you. Happening today, Death Penalty supporters plan to hold News Conferences across california. Crime victims and prosecutors are among the groups pushing for a ballot measure that would speed up the appeals process for death row inmates. The america would expand the pool of appellate attorneys and place limits on how many appeals could be filed in each case. A lot of you like to use skyline boulevard in the Early Morning hours and you will find it crowded around the scene of this accident. This occurred very early this morning but because it was determined to be a fatal crash, it means a big investigation. The coroner is en route and thats why were talking about it because its still tying up the ride there on highway 35. Heres a look at your bay bridge ride. And the backup continues to grow for the westbound commute. You can see the metering lights which were activated around 5 30 are definitely having an impact now as we start to pick up some slowing on the ramp from highway 880 here coming in to join. You can see that thats where the traffic starts to back up. As it climbs up that ramp its the beginning of the backup. Here though, we should see traffic a little slower than we do but we dont. So that means youre still looking at just about 17 minutes headingout of hayward over towards foster city. That makes it a pretty good ride. And if you are heading through marin county this morning youre in for a great ride on 101 southbound. That drive time out of central san rafael at 15 minutes.
