A. s office takes the reins its usually relying on the Police Department as the lead agency in the investigation. So it would create the independent Investigations Bureau a 14person team to investigate Police Shootings incustody deaths and allegations of excessive force. The unit would prosecute criminal cases and review court cases where officers accused of wrongdoing may have played a role. This is the latest push for more Police Oversight in San Francisco. Voters just passed a measure requiring the citys Police Watchdog agency the office of citizen complaints to investigate every Police Shooting that results in an injury. The measure being discussed today would rename that office the occ and turn it into the internal independent Investigations Bureau but it would also change who is heading up those investigations.
