Slowing. It will push south. The most rain right now is mainly the north bay [chuckling] healdsburg with light to moderate rainfall, monte rio with moderate to heavy. Hidden valley lakes, moderate to heavy at this hour. This is the leading edge heavier rain behind it. Higher winds, as well. Wind speeds sustained at 30 Miles Per Hour. Gusts at 59 Miles Per Hour. Well see a few showers in the San Francisco region right now light rain at sfo right now. Winds still light. Winds in the 15mileperhour range in the north bay a good indicator the front is still well to the north. As it moves through winds increase. Weather headlines. Rain and wind for friday morning. And the first part of friday afternoon for some in the south bay the second round saturday night. And actually it looks like wind speeds will be higher for this second round of rain than what we see today and we remain unsettled through the weekend through sunday and on into monday. As i promised, well take a quick look here at your temperatures. We are mild as you head out the door this morning. 65 in concord and oakland. 65 livermore. 63 in San Francisco. And 62 in san jose. Now, anne, i have been telling you all morning. Heres where we are seeing rain in the north bay and i want to zoom in to where anne is right now. Here is lucky drive. So i would not be surprised if you start to see a few sprinkles from this cell just off to your northeast. Anything yet . Reporter oh, yeah. Im feeling sprinkles and the winds are picking up. Its getting gusty out here in larkspur this morning. So we are definitely feeling the effects of the storm starting to move in. Traffic moving smoothly here behind me on 101. You can see the weeds getting blown up in some of the big gusts waiting for the real rain to arrive here. They have been preparing for the last couple of days. And pg e was out here all across the north bay yesterday preparing for this storm. Clearing branches because this combination of wind and rain will likely knock out some power. Authorities are encouraging you to check your gutters, pick up anything in your yard that could become a projectile in strong winds, but for some people, they say its never too early in the season for a big storm. I love the rain. Were getting a break. Its an excuse to stay inside and watch a movie. Thats a rare thing because sometimes the weather is a little too good here. Reporter as for the roadways, they will be slick as some of the regular low water spots will be under water like part of the Manzanita Park ride will be closed for a week as a precaution. Lets go live now to maria medina. She is in pacifica. Hows it going, maria . Reporter good morning. No rain here just yet but the wind is really picking up. We are expecting 14 to 16foot waves along the coast and you can see here in pacifica, the waves are powerful but not as high. This is just the beginning of whats to come. A few months ago el nino battered the coastline here. We saw the seawall fail and some cliff erosion city leaders even declared a state of emergency and demolished an entire Apartment Building as it teetered on the cliffside so today we are expecting that high surf that residents really fear here. We are hoping for the best. Officials warning you to stay away from the water. When there is high surf, this area here can be really crowded by the pier as people watch the surf. We were pretty quiet all morning but we have a Traffic Alert in sausalito. But first let me update you on mass transit. We have had a delay all morning on bart for 30 minutes. But it is now completely on time. And we have no delays throughout the area for bart, ace, muni or caltrain so that is good news. In the bad news, Traffic Alert issued by chp. In sausalito theres an overturned car. Fire crews are blocking three right lanes and well definitely keep you updated as to when its cleared. It will take 30 minutes to completely clear with a Traffic Alert issued by chp. To the Golden Gate Bridge wow, okay lets move to the bay bridge toll plaza. The metering lights are on since 5 34 this morning. Carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze westbound will take you about 20 minutes. That traffic is backing up towards the 580 overcrossing. Peninsula commute traffic slowing down across the san mateo bridge off the toll plaza. 880 to 101, westbound, will take you 15 to 20 minutes. The nominee took issue with a People Magazine reporter suggesting she wasnt attractsive enough for him to pursue. You take a look, look at her, look at her words, you tell me what you think. I dont think so. Yesterday, trumps wife melania demanded People Magazine retract a portion of the article saying she had a conversation with the writer following the alleged incident. Her demand never addressed the assault claim. Meanwhile, president obama and the first lady are denouncing the republican candidate in strong terms. This is not something that we can ignore. It now seems very clear that this isnt an isolated incident. Its one of countless examples of how he has treated women his whole life. Trump will attend two Campaign Events in North Carolina today. Richmond police have arrested three men in connection to a shooting this week that left one person dead and another injured. These men are accused of killing 21yearold eric brown of richmond on monday night. Investigators say it happened near lemoine Valley View Park after a bad drug deal. Police arent releasing the name of another man who was shot. But he is expected to survive. The trio has been charged with murder. Armed robbers have been targeting students at uc berkeley. At least half a dozen people have been attacked on or near the north end of the cal campus. The crimes all happened between last saturday and this wednesday. Each time one or two robbers approached a student with a gun and took their laptop or backpack. Later today well get an update on the city of oakland. Mayor libby schaaf holding the annual state of the city address that starts at 5 00 at city hall. The mayor says that it will happen rain or shine. Time now 6 08. Halloween is just about two weeks away and consumer advocates are issuing a new warning aboutface paint for the day. Right now, some towns along North Carolinas east coast are bracing for a second wave of flooding after Hurricane Matthew devastated the state leaving 27 people dead. And today, the neuse river is expected to crest. River levels have surpassed historic levels that were set 16 years ago. The governor says more than 200 Emergency Personnel and rescue workers are there to help as the area awaits flooding. Additional resources including food, watered, fuel and sandbags have also been sent to kinston. Hurricane matthew devastated haiti. The United Nations is now expressing concern about women living in shelters. The u. N. Humanitarian coordinator says that there were over 8,000 women in their last trimester of pregnancy in that area in need of medical assistance. He also cited exposure to rape and lack of medical treatment for pregnant women as critical conditions for concern. Closer to home, firefighters are fighting fast moving flames in South Lake Tahoe near cascade lake. Right now mandatory evacuations are in place for several nearby communities. Cal fire reporting that the fire is 200 acres and burning off highway 89. Theres no word on containment. San francisco appears to be getting tough with one of its homegrown companies. The board of supervisors is considering legislation to regulate the shortterm rental industry in San Francisco including airbnb, which has its headquarters in town. Among other things, the proposal calls for 60night annual caps on shortterm rentals regardless of whether the host is on site. Before kids get ready for halloween, parents are being warned about potentially toxic halloween face paint. The Breast Cancer fund said trace amounts of at least one heavy metal like lead, cadmium or mercury were found in 21 face paints. They also discovered chemicals and products likely balm and nail polish that are marketed to kids. These makeup manufacturers need to clean up their act and stop jeopardizing the health of kids. Parents should not have to wonder whether the face paint contains heavy metals toxins. Children are more vulnerable to the chemicals since their bodies are still developing. Caltrans is moving ahead this weekend with the ongoing task of removing the bay bridges old eastern span. Crews will conduct under water implosions of two old piers. One implosion is scheduled for tomorrow, 11 30 a. M. , the other set for saturday october 29th. And as a safety precaution, the chp will conduct rolling closures on the bridge during all that activity. All right. 6 15 right now. Lets check the traffic and weather. We are starting to get some action out there. Lets start with the chp Traffic Alert issued just about30 minutes ago here southbound 101 before spencer avenue. This is in sausalito. Its an overturned car. Fire crews are trying to clear the situation but they are blocking two right lanes. Traffic moving at just about 50 Miles Per Hour. So not too slow if you are headed down the 101 here. Now moving over to a new crash in San Francisco, westbound 80 before 5th street just after the bay bridge, its a multi vehicle crash and chp is saying there are five to six vehicles involved. And well keep you posted as to when that is cleared. We see some delays, however, if you are heading on westbound 80 coming off the bay bridge. Now, moving over to the bay bridge toll plaza, stacking up towards the maze already, traffic backed up right past the overcross there. Carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze westbound about 23 minutes. Expect about a 15 to 20minute drive in the toll plaza into downtown San Francisco. Over to the altamont pass, this is where our slowest traffic is of the morning coming off 205 at just about 35 Miles Per Hour. Slow into north flynn road. 205 to altamont pass, 15 minutes. Mass transit, just to let you know, that delay that we were talking about all morning has been recovered. No mass transit delays. We are talking rain on hi def doppler. The front still well north of us, in fact redding saw a wind gust at 59 Miles Per Hour earlier this morning so high winds up there, not so much for us just yet but they are increasing. You can see the leading edge of the rain still just north of San Francisco. Lets take a look at this. A rainsnow mix over the high country right now. Snow levels are going to be high, 8,000 lowering to 7,000 by this weekend. But overall [chuckling] we are already seeing snow in kirkwood, great news for them. Back here, closer to home, we are starting to see those showers sink south into our neck of the woods as we take a closer look at San Francisco. Notice some rain on the lens here. Temperatures in the mid60s at this hour. So mild temperatures to start out. But you want to grab an umbrella maybe a light rain jacket. Temperatures will moderate. Heres a look free satellite perspective at this system. Right now heading into british columbia, its not necessarily the area of low pressure that were tracking today. It is the front associated with it passing through and thats what brings with it the highest winds and the heaviest rainfall. In fact, we can track it with futurecast here and wind speeds. Notice 6 a. M. Futurecast anticipating the highest winds still up north so thats a good indicator of where the front will be with wind gusts upwards of 20 Miles Per Hour in santa rosa, lighter farther south. As we advance on through late morning, though, the front sinks south. 20 to 25 Miles Per Hour, livermore, Half Moon Bay and then winds die down later this afternoon as the front passes through to our south. The same is true with the heaviest rainfall. Here we are at around 8 00. We start to see some of the heavier rain passing south of santa rosa into the San Francisco area continuing to sink south towards the end of the morning commute and seeing more widespread light to moderate rainfall hayward, santa cruz, Higher Elevations seeing more rain. Lingering showers for the south bay into the afternoon and then we all stay unsettled friday into saturday. Im pausing at saturday at 8 p. M. When our next front passes through. Well see higher winds with the saturday system. But less rain with that one. And then futurecast indicating we stay wet really just unsettled with showers and clouds through the weekend even on into monday. Overall, our threeday totals, friday through sunday night. We could see upwards of 4 in the north bay over an inch for the south bay and certainly higher amounts possible for the Santa Cruz Mountains at the Higher Elevations. High temperatures today not so high topping out near 70 for fairfield, concord, livermore 69. 63 pacifica. 68 redwood city and mountain view. A look at the extended forecast shows you will need to keep the umbrella handy for a few days. Likely the heaviest rain today, um, and we will see winds pick up today but we might actually see higher winds in the system moving through saturday into sunday. The rain will be a bit more showery and lighter in nature. Just keep that umbrella around saturday, sunday and on in through monday.
