And he basically went on to say that they wont allow the Police Department to get involved in federal Immigration Enforcement and that the mayor is prepared to go to court to block any federal activity that he believes is unconstitutional to undocumented immigrants with criminal records. This is in response to president elect Donald Trumps promise to deport millions of undocumented immigrants with criminal records. A lot of students are scared. Now, they dont know what the uncertainty is for today and tomorrow. They dont know if tomorrow they are going to need to pack and go back to mexico with their parents. Reporter we saw it protests at bay area schools against president elect trumps promise. Meanwhile, county supervisors here in santa clara have said he is willing to spend millions for undocumented immigrants who face deportation to get them Free Legal Services and just yesterday, governor jerry brown appointed the first latino attorney general in the history of california. Well have a Small Craft Advisory in place and outside the gate a gale warning in effect 20 to 60 nautical miles out. Otherwise, we have some gusty surface winds this morning out of the north thats mixing up the atmosphere so therefore its not as chilly as it was just 24 hours ago. But nonetheless, we have now dipped down to 38 degrees in santa rosa. High 40s in livermore. 50s in San Francisco. And due east across the bay bridge into oakland. All right, lets take a look at wind speeds now 28 at sfo. 23 in San Francisco. Lighter winds in oakland but once you hit the bay bridge and youre traveling due west youre going to have a head wind. Meanwhile, we have 12mileper hour winds in novato, slighter winds in the pleasanton and livermore areas. 16 san ramon. 20 fairfield. You get the feel here. Its blustery and we are going to see the winds blow during the afternoon. North 10 to 20 with an occasional stronger gust. Temperaturewise, pretty much where we should be for this time of the year a little over 60. San jose just one degree shy of average high. 63 in oakland through grizzly peak. 50s and 60s at the beaches today through moss and montara beaches. 60 in los altos. Also in san jose. Into the beautiful neighborhood of willow glen. Then we whip around to the eastern portion of our bay area. With the afternoon breeze, 50s and 60s. A vigil today to mark a year since the Deadly Police shooting in San Francisco that prompted big changes. Last december police shot mario woods shortly after woods allegedly stabbed someone. The San Francisco City Attorneys Office says officers were justified when they opened fire. But video of the incident sparked protests. That led to the departure of greg suhr as well as proposed changes in the departments use of force policy. Todays vigil at 3 30 at Martin Luther king, jr. Park. That vigil comes as vote looms over a proposed memorial at the site of another Controversial Police shooting. Alex nieto was shot and killed in San Franciscos Bernal Heights park nearly two years ago. The 28yearold was carrying a taser in preparation for his job as a Security Guard at a nightclub. The proposal to install a memorial at the site will be voted on, on december 13 by the board of supervisors. Some environmentalists are arent pleased with the long term Water Conservation plan just released by state officials. Under the proposal, water use limits would be customized for urban areas. But critics say its not fair that while farmers use 80 of the water consumed by people, they are not facing significant slashes in allotment. Reporter how does santa allow to you have time off from your work at the north pole at this very busy time of year . Well, santa knows that we have only so many elves. So we really appreciate the help from the community in bringing additional presents so we can give them out to the kids. Reporter the big fundraiser for toys for tots, you guys get a lot of toys . The football world is morning the loss of a former nfl player and usc trojan killed in a road rage incident in louisiana. Joe mcknight was shot and killed following an argument at an intersection in a new orleans suburb early yesterday morning. The suspect remained on the scene and is in custody. The 28yearold mcknight was once considered the Best High School running back in the country. He spent time with the new york jets and the Kansas City Chiefs after leaving usc in 2009. And former teammates are stunned. He was one hell of a Football Player but even one hell of a better human being. A great person and always trying to bring out the best in people. Just a great guy to be around and well miss him. Its going to be hard to forget someone like joe mcknight. Police say they expect the man who shot mcknight will face charges. Abalone hunters wont be allowed to take home as many next year. Thepopulation is down so state officials are considering reducing the limit by as much as half. The season could also be cut short. It starts in april. Starting today, fisherman can crab along a 50mile stretch that was previously off limits because the area from point reyes to near sea ranch has safe levels domoic acid. Officials stress crab fishing is not allowed further north between salt point and humboldt bay. College is stressful. You remember your college days, dont you its been so long. Exams and all that stuff. It gets stressful but some sacramento students are getting a break from the pressure. At American River college, puppies are lending paws to distressed and an adult coloring book program will soon be at their fingertips. Many think its a great idea but others say its creating a real problem. I have a concern about bringing these things on campus because i do think we have a tendency to baby our college students. Stress is real and some students are looking for ways to manage that stress and we are trying to be creative and flexible in a way that helps them manage that stress so they can succeed. A major concern is the cost. The college says the coloring books and crayons will be donated and not paid for by taxpayers. As for the puppies, their four legged companionship is free provided by the spca. Everyone needs stress relief, right . Yeah. But i mean, you know, suppose your wife is im just out of where is this going . Is going into labor. Are you going do you have a coloring book . I keep coloring books on my coffee table in my living room. Its fun. Why not. Bring your dog to work to provide a little bit of relaxation. Wheres the bus you just threw him under . [ laughter ] good question. Lets look at the south bay. The only problem in the south bay is a 14minute drive on northbound 101. Otherwise looking good. San mateo bridge from hayward to foster city, that will take you 17 minutes between 880 and 101 and then a look at the nimitz freeway live on 880 northbound between from 238 in san leandro to the maze, a quick 16 minutes. Over to the Altamont Pass, traffic coming out of tracy thats 205 to the Altamont Pass, youre moving at 24 miles an hour. And then speeds pick up to 33 Miles Per Hour once you hit north flynn road. Also keep in mind theres a high wind advisory across the Altamont Pass so keep both hands on the wheel and give yourself space between cars. The Altamont Pass to 680 will take you 16 minutes. Now lets talk about mass transit. As we have all morning long, bart is still recovering from a tenminute delay on richmond lines if you are heading to richmond, fremont or millbrae. And then ace train the vta shuttles this afternoon, that serve the buses that serve the vta shuttles will be running 15 minutes earlier due to the pac12 championship game at levis stadium. So if thats part of your commute, you will want to keep that in mind. Make sure you schedule accordingly. Otherwise, ace trains 3 and 5 no delay. Muni and caltrain on time, as well. Roberta . So hows that bus doing, roqui, on the roads, the one i threw brian under . Well, right now, its stalled. [ laughter ] in the right lane. [ laughter ] this is a beautiful view this morning from the transamerica pyramid. Were looking due east a good 45 miles inland towards mount diablo. You can see it in the distance here. At the top of it its 39 degrees and the winds are up to 13 Miles Per Hour. We have gustier winds at the surface. Now San Francisco winds have been up to 19 Miles Per Hour. 53 degrees. And because theres a breezy condition this morning, not quite as chilly as it was just 4 hours ago but santa rosa has now dipped to 38 degrees. The winds are lighter. 16 mountain view, 28 sfo, 10 across the bay in hayward. 23 Miles Per Hour winds in San Francisco. These are wind speeds right now looks like northerly at 16 in the concord, clayton and walnut creek area bested by fairfield at 20. Vallejo, benicia, martinez. All northnortheast winds, thats offshore 14 Miles Per Hour. Stratus offshore is associated with an area of low pressure well to the north of the bay area taking the course of a very vigorous jet stream thats just banking off the huge dome dom about here. But when you see these red lines here thats a reflection of our wind particle map so it gives you a good indication of the direction of the winds, coming from the north. When you see the lines tightly together, thats more of a Pressure Gradient between the low and the high and when you get that tight squeeze, thats when we pick up those winds. Travel weather across the state today, 50s in throughout the central valley. 57 degrees along the seashore from big sur through pebble beach. 60 ukiah. We head to the mountains 31 degrees afternoon high and the high sierra. We are working a really good base up to 4 feet in the squaw valley area. Saturday and sunday begins to warm gently in the mountains, but be mindful of your weather forecast. Snow is a possibility late sunday into monday for your trek back home.
