This morning at 36. 7 feet at 4. 5 feet above flood stage. The Russian River rose to about that level earlier this week on tuesday. So this is a double whammy. Homes and businesses near the Russian River banks were once again flooded and as soon as the waters receded here we are again. People who live around here though are taking it all in stride. Everybody is doing well in the neighborhood. This is pretty normal. But the storm we had a couple of weeks ago was by far worse. Theres no water in our well, theres a little bit of water in our basement but nothing like a few weeks ago. Reporter and then theres trouble at the Mark West Creek in west Sonoma County which joins with the Russian River. Trees and branches down around its banks. Its normally less than a half foot deep but today, it is approaching 10 feet in some stretches. And then theres a possibility of mudslides in the hills here in wine country. Our crews checked on some of the homes above guerneville in danger of tumbling around christmastime and they are still redtagged. Again, you can see the water levels here behind me high and they are going to rise about 4 feet within the next five hours. Live in guerneville, anne makevoc, kpix 5. Right now, some areas are getting dried out and others are still slammed. Yeah. Anne makovec was just asking me a very interesting question a couple of minutes ago, saying okay, are we seeing more rain in this particular area where she is this morning in guerneville than anywhere else in the bay area . And its been going hand in hand when we forecast six inches of rain in the north bay, six inches also in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I try to pull some stats together really fast and where she stands we are 196 of normal. I mean, nearly 200 of normal. And just slightly below that in portions like ben lomond. So good morning, everybody. We still have the rain but we are keeping a watchful eye on the Russian River in the guerneville area where it did crest as anne was saying on this past tuesday. Its already one foot above flood stage cresting at about 37 feet at 11 a. M. So with that kind of forecast, you know there will be moderate flooding in the area. Also mentioned in central Sonoma County, that red highlighted area, that is a Flood Warning in effect for the Mark West Creek also the town of santa rosa, also all of sebastopol, graton and cotati. We have a lot of flooding going on there and its still raining. A break in the north bay now. East bay with moderate to heavy rainfall around the tassajara area, blackhawk, diablo, also towards concord, clayton and walnut creek. We also have the rain showers just moving out of the 580 680 corridor heading towards Discovery Bay and in brentwood. Spotty scattered showers now around santa clara, mission san jose. Mostly cloudy in San Francisco looking due east towards oakland. We can see the bright lights of the estuary and the port of oakland which we have not been able to do for several days. Ivistsibility is an issue now visibility is an issue now in santa rosa but not around the rim of the bay. Temperatures today with the clearing of the skies, im not talking full sunshine. Clearing of the rain, but well turn partly to mostly cloudy during the afternoon. 50s at the beaches. 60s around the peninsula. 60s common around the Santa Clara Valley from san jose through willow glen into the rose Garden District at 63 degrees. East bay topping off high 50s and low 60s. The winds will remain under about 15 Miles Per Hour. Meanwhile 50s and 60s common in the north bay and in the far reaches right around lakeport at 54. 58 in windsor. Its only down to one lane in each direction due to a massive mudslide on the northbound side. But work has been suspended due to a fatal incident between two workers out there. So why is traffic down to just nine miles an hour . Because there was a stalled vehicle blocking a lane. Thats now moved out of the way but the damage is done. So if you are heading out this way please give yourself plenty of time and make sure youre prepared to drive safely and be very alert in this area. Its very dangerous conditions out there. Chp says and caltrans says that that work might not resume until next week. Heres a look at the Altamont Pass traffic. You are down to 19 Miles Per Hour now so very slow conditions here. North tracy boulevard to the Altamont Pass will take you over 30 minutes and if you are heading to walnut creek an earlier crash has been removed but the damage is done. Southbound 680 before treat boulevard a twovehicle crash involving a big rig. Ill send it to you. All right, roqui. Thank you. Kpix 5s maria medina is live in Scotts Valley on the tragic accident that put repairs in limbo. Maria. Reporter good morning. A much different scene than just a few days ago. All is quiet out here off highway 17 on vine hill road. Thats because work is suspended. Now, that fatal accident happened during my noon live shot yesterday. And today, we are learning the victims name was bobby gill, 53 years old from los banos. Now, chp tells us that a worker hauling mud from that mudslide backed up and ran over two workers. Those workers from graniterock hired to help clean up the mudslide out here. The accident happened a few minutes after noon as soon as it started raining. We saw that the workers were visibly shaken after that accident. Well, now cal osha is stepping in. The state is stepping in to investigate and that means that work is suspended out here. They are out here working in the pouring rain trying to make it easier and then something tragic like this happens. Its very heartbreaking for all of us. Reporter now, the other man hit did survive. We saw him moving his arms and his head before he was rushed to a nearby hospital. His name is steven whitmeyer. But again, as for the work out here, it is suspended as cal osha investigates and that means that work here is completely stopped. There is no date, no timeline when they will start resuming work here so expect a lot of delays over the weekend because northbound lanes again are closed near vine hill road.
