So how are we negotiating the last 30 days . Are you kidding me . You know, but they have the rest of the public thinking that we are when basically they have the union sitting there waiting to negotiate. Bart says they need to be realistic with skyrocketing costs of medical care and pension costs workers have to pay their fair share. Theres no question that bart employees should get a pay raise. How much and what cost . We must address the skyrocketing costs of the benefit packages reporter bart projects healthcare costs will go up 6 a year for the next four years. The district says employees continuing to pay 92 a month wont cut it. Our premiums are based it goes up by 3 . Reporter atu which represents bart drivers and station agents is quick to point out their costs go up each year. The union maintains its members pay more than barts 92 a month claim. On average we are paying up to 200 a member. Reporter which number is right . 92 a month is the average for employees. Reporter the other roadblock is how to pay for pensions. Bart projects pension costs will go up 4 a year for the next four years. Rinot they dont pay into pensions. Bart says that is rare for public workers. Bart keeps saying, well, they are not paying anything into their pensions. They have a sweet deal what do you say to that . The pension is the only thing we have. We do not receive social security. Reporter management is asking them to 5 toward the pension. Atu wanted a 3 plus a bigger raise. They turned it down. Reporter no movement on either issue and with three days to go Union Negotiators say unless things change dramatically expect 72hour notice tonight for a strike monday morning. We talked to a bart board member in on the talks today. He said it is not going well. They dont aim down at the platform but into the surrounding neighborhoods and thats upsetting many people. It can be super loud to just loud. Reporter they live by the tracks. But its not the rumble of the trains that rattle them. They are blasting beyond belief. Its going on all day long. Its something that our riders want certainly. Reporter they are talking about this. Attention, train 151 approaching. Reporter the announcements every time a train arrives at this san carlos station. At least five times an hour during the commute, twice an hour other times. The riders may like this, but nearby families say its their unwanted wakeup call every day at 5 13 a. M. And to make it more annoying, it sounds like this. And Police Officers fanned out in the area near story and 280 this morning. Thats where gunmen attempted to hold up a California Check Cashing store around 8 a. M. The man fired several shots. No one has hurt. He took off on foot. For three hours homes were locked down as police tried to find him. We located him and as it stands now nobody no innocent civilians were injured. Police found the man hiding in the backyard of a home on cinderella lane. The gun was found nearby. Around the bay area now, this morning a woman fought off an attacker near santa clara university. But now police are trying to find him. She told police he was walking home she was walking home near poplar and washington streets when the man attacked her from behind. The k9 unit tracked the suspects scent to campus and then lost it. Since asking the public to help, Oakland Police identified three of four women who may connected to a murder halloween 2011. Tuesday Police Released these photos of the women taken on 32 yearold darian stones telephone hours before he was killed. Police believe he met them at an oakland nightclub and the women may have been present at the time shooting. Santa clara Vector Control will take another shot tonight at eradicating mosquitos carrying west nile virus. Fogging will take place tonight weather permitting. Reporter but things werent that great in june when the water levels dropped and boats could barely scrape by. Things were low as they have been in my whole life. I have been on the river for 50 years. And in midjune, it was about as low as we had in the 76 drought. Reporter don with the Advocacy Group Russian River keepers said the problem was coming from lake mendocino near ukiah. This lake serves a couple of conflicting purposes. This is the water supply of the upper Russian River and many of the residents in Sonoma County so you would think you would want to store as much as you could in here. But to the army corps of engineers, this is also a Flood Control basin. And when heavy rains fell in november and december, the corps followed guidelines and began dumping water from the nearly full lake a lot of water. 27,000acre feet almost 3 times the amount needed for the summer flow were released in six days. And then the rains stopped for the rest of the season. We actually had almost normal rainfall but it all came in the months of november and december. Reporter but he says even though the rain quit, the corps kept releasing higher flows until the beginning of may. By then, the damage was done. And now the reservoir stands at only 50 of capacity. He says if it drops below 30 , they wont even be able to release water anymore. But he is most worried about what this means for the future. Going into the end of the year, if we dont have good rainfall this next year, we are in even more hurt in 2014. Reporter the corps of engineers did what they were required to do but the guidelines were written why 1952 and dont address the current situation. Mac end hills group is pushing for a greater balance between Flood Control and water storage. This kind of year where we get all our rain in one tiny window and then dry for the next six months of the rainy season probably going to happen again. He allegedly blindfolded the girls inside the classroom at o. B. Whaley. Earlier the School Principal was convicted of failing to report the abuse. He had a promising political future until being arrested for breaking into a womans apartment in his underwear. As da lin reports, Sonoma County supervisor efren koreas career in in jeopardy. It would be hard to represent the voters. Reporter one of the biggest voters to Sonoma County supervisors Efren Carillo is calling on the young politician to step down. His actions brought shame and disgrace to the county of sonoma. Reporter this is a picture of carillo in court two weeks ago after Santa Rosa Police arrested him for breaking into a womans home through a bedroom window wearing only his underwear and socks. 3 30 in the morning. Carillos attorney sa the 32 yearold politician was trying to share drinks with the woman. Investigators say nice try. They believe he was trying to sexually assault the woman. Less than a year ago he was arrested outside a san diego nightclub for fighting. He is guilty of poor judgment and bad behavior. Reporter the north Bay Labor Council and another union donated thousands of dollars to carillos Reelection Campaign last year. Two arrests in one year. They are done with him. Carillo is on paid administrative leave. He makes about 150,000 a year. His Attorney Says carillo is at a Rehab Facility getting help with his drinking problem. The Sonoma County supervisor is disappointed with carillo but hopes he can turn his life around. Thats a distraction. It has been. I think were moving on and taking care of the business at hand. Reporter while many voters want him out a longtime friend still supports him. The facts arent known in the case. Its been a lot of speculation and people are quick to judge. Marijuana is a cash crop in Northern California but its the environment that may be paying the price. Local counties are asking the state to protect streams and lakes from the chemical fallout from those illegal grow operations. State officials flat out denied the request. They do agree that the pot farms can be toxic. But they worry sending agents in to investigate might be risky. Pot farms often are guarded by heavily armed men. Low 70s in mountain view. 74 in san jose. And were talking about temperatures at least 10 degrees below average in livermore at 78 degrees.
