We talked to a lot of folks on the streets and a lot of them are against the project having the concern that a Train Derailment or something bad environmentallyfriendly so the city is saying that if it meets the requirements to build this project, then they would have no choice but to give it a go. San francisco is a tough place to live for people who are in the middle income range. When we look at prices in San Francisco, it typically costs more than half of the average persons monthly wage. Reporter last year, city voters passed proposition c which gives familiar police that income range down payment assistance for first homes. Our Housing Trust fund was created last year to put 1. 5 billion in the next 30 years towards building that kind of housing and part of it already is being used for first time home buyers who are in that particular bracket to afford their first home and help them with their down payment assistance. Reporter even proposition c doesnt help everybody in the middle income bracket because there are different kinds of restrictions. They are calling it the moonscape. 20foothigh chaparral has been reduced to black dust. And as the buzzards circle overhead, some of the images are heartbreaking. But those who live on the mountain say they knew one day fire would come. Its one of the those things we all knew was going to happen, but just a matter of when, not if. One property at the north peak is at the heart of what was burned. Reporter save mount diablo is an organization that buys up property for conservation. That are land that used to look like this now looks like this. Some of the larger animals would have fled the flames but some smaller threatened species like the alameda whip snake and others undoubtedly died in the fire. No one has seen this kind of devastation since the last big blaze in 1977. And as tragic as these events may feel, the people here understand this is all part of a natural process. A lot of species on mount diablo have evolved with fire and even need fire and we are going to see spectacular wildflower displays come spring. There will be some species that no one has seen since the 1977 fire. Reporter like the fire poppy and golden eardrop will carpet the landscape from seeds that have been buried for decades. Pine cones opened by fire will soon begin to sprout new seedlings. And they say within a year here, new growth will become food and habitat for wildlife that migrate back to the area. This area will become ecologically more and more diverse over the next few years with the areas that have been opened up by the fire. Reporter the biggest concern now is erosion that could hit the area hard when the rains come. But thats a temporary problem that only man worries about. It happened at around 11 30 this morning at a home on chrisland avenue near meadow lane. Kpix 5s mark sayre is live in East San Jose where the search is on for one suspect and its still going on. Reporter a scary dramatic after in the neighborhood. Santa clara county sheriffs deputies are looking for the final suspect in the case and are patrolling tonight. Santa clara county sheriffs deputies searched on the ground and in the air for the suspects involved in the robbery. About 11 30 this morning, five men burst into a home occupied by two women on chrisland avenue in East San Jose. Those women managed to call 911. As the deputies arrived on scene, the suspects were seen fleeing from the residence. Reporter since the victims reported firearms were used, sheriffs deputies and San Jose Police launched an allout search. Authorities combed through a parked suv looking for evidence and carried out three bags put in the trunk of a squad car. Three nearby schools in the Alum Rock School district were put on lockdown as well as the National Hispanic university. Authorities also issued reverse 911 calls warning residents to stay inside.
