Pleasanton garage. Its a familiar Silicon Valley story line but dont let that fool you. His clients include governments around the world and congressman Eric Swalwell called him for help finding a security solution. There are opportunities to have pilot programs to see how technology can better secure our airport. Theres a lot of interest especially in areas like airports and transportation. Reporter the congressman also reached out to hugh martins Sunnyvale Company that Installs Energy efficient lights with cameras inside and are networked together wirelessly. Settlement. Nsity already has lights at the newark, new jersey airport. Two Bay Area Companies among six congressman swalwell will introduce to airport leaders tomorrow trying to fix the flaws and prevent another security breach. We are getting word about another potential problem involving the anchor rods on the new bay bridge. Lets get right to allen martin standing by in the newsroom with that. Reporter you know, ken, nothing on a bridge is put there without a specific purpose and these rods were talking about are crucial to the bridges structural stability. They hold them. The main cable of the bridge together. Now, it turns out many of those rods are skewed slightly off center inside the holes of the steel plate where they are secured. Now, according to bridge authorities, of the 274 rods anchored along the eastern end of the suspension span, the new span, 205 are not aligned properly. Theyre off by about 10 millimeters. It doesnt sound like a lot but in the event of an earthquake, they could be easily damaged by rubbing against those steel plates. These particular rods are going through holes where the rods are too close to the edge of the holes or some of them touching the holes. And there needs to be a specific amount of clearance for those rods to be centered. Over time you dont want metal on metal friction to happen. You dont want steel on steel over time to affect the particular area. Reporter the question is how will they fix it . Bridge engineers say crews could either shift those rods to the center of the holes or make the holes bigger. Both would take a lot of time and money and its too early, they say, to tell how much that would be, how much time its going to take. And it is worth mentioning, of course, that bridge engineers say this is not considered a high risk situation right now. They say the misalignment poses no risk to Driver Safety at this time. Its unclear how long authorities have known about the problem or how soon they plan to address it and do something about it. 10 millimeters. Doesnt sound like much, but i guess when you consider all the physics that are going on there, its something to know about. Reporter in the event of an earthquake, yeah, its a big deal.
