Reporter San Franciscos office of Emergency Management tells me that there are always going to be some issues and especially in the early moments especially as it gets chaotic here but in this case they believe that everything went smoothly. Bottom line here, the hospital reports that overall 23 patients were taken to five area hospitals including San Francisco general hospital. They tell me the injuries were there were some other injuries that werent severe enough for people to be transported to the hospital. Joe vazquez, kpix 5. Lets take a closer look at the collision between the bus and dump truck on geary, a busy street. Kpix 5s andria borba on what happened there. Reporter the crash investigation closed geary for a total of 2 hours sending 12 people to the hospital. Those who werent injured tell kpix 5 the crash was absolutely terrifying. When the muni 38 bus rearended a dump truck on geary there were 60 passengers on board, including this man who didnt want to be identified. We just riding the bus for five, six, seven blocks. The initial thought in my mind was, when i seen the broken glass in the front of the bus it was like did something somebody go through the front . Reporter police reopened 3rd street about a halfhour ago. Tow trucks have taken away the muni light rail vehicle and the big rig. You can see the intersection is now back to normal with traffic moving. Police say both vehicles were heading north on 3rd street. They say the big rig driver made an illegal left turn and that was when the lrv, light rail vehicle, crashed right into the big rig. The force was so strong it derailed the train, dragging that light rail vehicle several feet off the tracks. 40 people on board at the time, some of those were tossed out of their seats, 20 people were hurt. 11 were sent to nearby hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. Back out live now, you see there are several signs right here that tell drivers they cannot make a left turn here. Police dont know why that big rig driver made that left turn. Again, things have cleared up here. They have reopened this area. They said they are thankful that no one was killed out here given the severity of the accident. Well, nobody was hurt this afternoon when a vta bus burst into flames on highway 101 in san jose. Only the bus driver was on board and he managed to get out okay. You can see from this twitter picture the fire appears to have started at the rear of the bus. The flames did spread to the grass on the side of the road. Firefighters quickly put that out. The chp has released video of a daring Helicopter Rescue near lake tahoe. This is from yesterday. You can see the young woman being hoisted up. She was swimming with her friends at angora lake.
