We are nearing the fouryear anniversary of the disaster and the work continues. As allen martin shows us, the potential for even more construction has neighbors nearing the point of exhaustion. Absolutely a traumatic experience. I was home at the time of the explosion. The ground shaking, the house moving. Reporter its been almost 4 years since the horror of the explosion. And while much of the neighborhood has been rebuilt, its still very much a work in progress. We have lived in a continuous state of reconstruction. Reporter psychologist deborah marks lived through the blast. Now she and her neighbors are living through some serious construction fatigue. And we are all and i think i can speak for everyone there, we are all very, very tired of whats gone on because its not over. Its never going to end. It will never end. Reporter there are still about 10 vacant lots to be rebuilt. The roads are a mess. And the major infrastructure work under the roads will go on for another year. Right now, everyone is learning to deal with it. Reporter there could be even more construction on the horizon. A proposed
Development Just
two blocks away from the blast site would replace this church with more than two dozen homes. Which is you cant imagine that up there right there in that little spot . You really cant imagine it. Reporter but while that development is just a proposal, neighbors say all the noise and house shaking construction work builds on painful memories. Everything that goes on in the neighborhood can be a potential trigger for that original trauma. It would be really nice to have a pause, a break. Reporter so four years after the explosion, the crestmoor neighborhood is still rebuilding, trying to find a way past a disaster that will never go away. Like my dad says, its progress.
