Two women accused of stealing more than two dozen cars are now behind bars. The duo was spotted twice by officers in the act. Kpix 5 is live in hayward where police have recovered a few of the vehicles. Pd calls these absolutely brazen because they kept doing the same thing over and over and again until they got caught. Reporter the suspicion started february 25th. An officer saw two women moving items between two different cars. Both turned out to be stolen. Before the officer could move in, the suspects took off. Jumped in one of the vehicles and fled, leaving behind the other stolen vehicle. Reporter the next day the duo, Jessica Adkins and erin ellis were spotted again this time about a mile down mission boulevard in the jack in the box parking lot. Unusual that wed find them in the same place doing the same thing day after day. Reporter the pair took off before officers could get there but caught up with them at adkins home in hayward. Hayward officers recovered five stolen cars and believed the pair might be one of the most prolific car thieves in the bay area. Theres some evidence that might link them to as much as 25 additional stolen vehicles. Reporter and in a not so surprising twist the cars they stole topped dmv lists year after year. The older civics are certainly easier to steal than some of the newer ones with the newer technology. At least two of the stolen cars were out of here and hayward. Another one out of contra costa county. But as you can imagine they have pages and pages of paperwork to go through as they try to link all of these car thefts up to these two women. James ware is not charged with murder. He is charged with grand theft and weapons charges. Oakland students wore blue in a stand of solidarity today for a fellow student who was shot and killed over the weekend. The teens at Oakland Technical High School are mourning the death of devon ellis. The 14yearold boy was shot to death while walking with friends saturday night. Neighbors say they heard gunshots and a car speeding off. Police are offering a 20,000 reward for information. A san jose fire quickly spread from one garage to three leaving nothing but charred structures in its way. Burnt framing, all that remains from the flames. The fire gutted this garage, damaged two others at a home on 9th street. At least two cars were also destroyed. Firefighters said the victorian homes nearby were a concern and their primary goal was to save them. The flames did impact one of the buildings up in front but it does not appear that theres any living space intrusion. Arson teams were looking in to whether this fire was intentionally set. Nobody was injured. In other bay area headlines now, a San Francisco bicyclist has died after getting hit by a car today. The cyclist collided with the car at 14th and folsom streets just after 12 30. Police tell us when they got on scene a Good Samaritan was performing cpr on the man. The victim 50 to 60 years old later died at the hospital. The driver of the car remained on scene. No arrests have been made. Another bicycle accident to tell you about in belmont. A man died today after losing control of his bike and crashing. It happened just after noon on ralston avenue. Police say no cars were around at the time of the crash and the victim was wearing a helmet. San mateo county coroner has not released his identity. The pit bull that attacked one of its owners has been euthanized. The owner was bitten on the face, legs, and arms in the house. Her injuries were serious enough that she had to be airlifted to john muir medical center. Her name and condition have not been released. A new audit confirms what most san jose drivers already know. The roads in that city are a mess. The independent city auditors sixmonth investigation concludes theyre among the worst in the bay area. The reason, a decade of no money for routine street maintenance. As a result, 38 of local city roads that are now fined will fall in to Poor Condition and soon. By the end of the decade the audit predicts 61 of local streets will be in bad shape. The cost to actually improve all of the city streets in san jose, 504 million. Thats the highest right now in the bay area. The wage hike also includes paid sick leave. Many restaurants have raised their prices to make up the difference. Berkeley and richmond are among the other local cities taking steps to raise the minimum wage. East coast ports appear to be the unintended winner of the labor dispute at the west coast ports while the 29 ports including the port of oakland here were shut done or partly partially shut down.
