Its an accident. Flip s on its side and bursts into flames. The flight data and voice recorders are giving them the clues to what happened in those final seconds. 7 seconds before impact one of the crew members called for more speed. The plane was going dangerously slow. I will tell you that the speed was significantly below 137 knots. And were not talking about a few knots. Then 4 seconds before crashing, the sound of a stick shaker is heard. Its been activated. This is both an oral and a physical cue to the crew that they are approaching a stall. Its called a stick shaker but theres a yolk the pilot is holding and it vibrates. It is telling them that a stall is approaching. 1. 5 seconds before impact to avoid crashing, a crew member calls for a go around. That means they want to not land but apply power and go around and try to land again. But the plane landed short. The tail section sliced off. Pieces scattering throughout the field. So based on those recordings and what you just explained, are you finding preliminary findings pointing to pilot error . What i will tell you is the ntsb conducts varied investigations. We will not reach a determination of probable cause in the first few days were on an accident scene. We want to make sure we gather all the evidence and facts early in the investigation. Asia na airlines admits the pilot was in training. Although he was an experienced pilot, this was his first time landing a boeing 777 at sfo. He had only 43 hours flight time on this type of plane. Newest photos released today show investigators at the crash site examing the debris field. Close attention was paid to the tail section that broke apart. Other investigators were examining the landing gear sitting on the run way. Just some of the evidence needed to zero in on a cause. Federal investigators still need to interview the crew and the safety inspectors will be joining the investigation. Kpix 5. Yeah, yeah. She and her 4 year old son were sitting in row 40 right next to a hole that ripped open large enough for two. I had the time to walk out. Very close to my seat. I take my baby and my carry on baggage and walk out. Many werent as lucky. Sf general took the most. The chief of surgery described the injuries. A huge amount of spine fractures. Some include poralysis. We also saw some patients that had road rash suggesting they were dragged. Were not sure if those patients were outside of the plane but both of those patients are alive. Other injuries came from the seat belts. One of the patients said the seat in front of her collapsed and came after her. I feel lucky. She was sitting in the back of the plane which turned out to be the most dangerous. For some, does have a broken leg. But all five family members are expected to survive. I will fly again. But maybe i need some time. Kpix 5. And now, doctors say they are in needblood donations. We wanted to get an idea of what pilots on board flight 215 were facing as they made their final approach. Too low and too slow. Just like asia na flight 214 before it crashed. Im going to bring the power and that airspeed is even more. Bring the power idol. See that . I already crashed right there. Why didnt the pilots know they were flying low . That will be a big part of the investigation. One thing being talked about. The glide slope indicator is out of service. This was a visual approach. What a visual approach means is you can fly it visually. You do not need instruments to get into the airport. Again, with a clear day, good visibility, they were cleared for a visible approach. Simulates a landing on 28 left. Without depending on the glide slope indicator. Like other flights, still has other options. Something called the localizer which helps the pilots align the plane with the run way and colored lights that show the pilot whether his approach is too high or too low. Equal number of red and whites show the pilot is right on track. We have to evaluate whether or not the pilot used or had available to them other tools in the aircraft or outside of the aircraft on the airport property and how they were flying the approach. Whether they were using automation or hand flying. The system at sfo would be shut off from june 1st to august 22nd. Kpix 5. And be sure to stay with kpix 5 and kpix.
