[ sound of fire ] reporter the roar of this fire is intense. More flames coming right here. Firefighters here have no chance against these type of flames so most of the fighting is being done by air. Right now, this fire is so large, the head is creating its own weather. Reporter people who have come for vacation have left. This is the yosemite inn family camp empty. Those who live in the mountains are also under voluntary evacuation orders. A backyard turned giant burn zone. 300 more firefighters coming today, more than 1,000 total still no estimate for containment for the rim fire. Near Yosemite National park. Steve large, kpix 5. Firefighters from oakland, fremont and hayward are helping with the rim fire. They left yesterday. They will join the more than 900 firefighters already there. And money for fighting fires across the country is running out. The u. S. Forest service has only 50 million left in its firefighting budget. Thats enough for just a few days. Its already spent 967 million this year. Other federal agencies also pay for firefighting efforts. The total so far this year, 1. 2 billion. Some developing news. Antigovernment forces in syria say the government of bashar sad used chemical weapons to kill hundreds of civilians. The officials den it. Jericka duncan reports. Reporter there was an alleged chemical weapons attack yesterday. The images showed dead or dying people. Rebels say chemical weapons killed as many as 1300. Cbs news cannot confirm the videos but experts tell us they appear to support the opposition claims. These people have died from some unconventional weapon and at the moment the most likely explanation would be some sort of chemical weapon. Reporter syrias Information Officer denied his country has ever used chemical weapons. He says everything that has been said is absurd, primitive, illogical and fabricated. The u. N. Security council held an emergency meeting last night. The council wants answers as to how so many people were killed. We see the need to investigate this as soon as possible. Reporter a team of u. N. Inspectors is already in syria to investigate past claims of chemical weapons use. Now they want to go to the site of yesterdays alleged attack. We hope that they will be given access to the area by the government. Reporter the Obama Administration says assad has ordered the use of chemical weapons in the past. In the past week or so more than 35,000 Syrian Refugees have fled to iraq raising the prospects of iraq getting more involved in syrias war. They declassified three Court Rulings which show the agency read as many as 56,000 emails from americans not connected to foreign terrorists. The nsa says it unintentionally gathered that internet traffic. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court ruled it unconstitutional and ordered the agency to find ways to limit what it collects and how long it keeps it. President obama begins a twoday bus tour of new york and pennsylvania today. His first stop will be in buffalo where he will talk about making College Education more affordable. Other stops include syracuse, binghamton and scranton, pennsylvania. The tour is meant to highlight the president s economic proposals for the middle class. Lets switch gears with traffic and weather. The weekend is approaching. Yeah. Its been crazy the last couple of days. We have been watching for the possibility of some thunderstorms. It looks like thats settling down now as that low tracks further north. Moving out of town returning to normal conditions around the bay area. That means low clouds and fog, right . Yeah. Okay, thank you. [ laughter ] low clouds and fog around the bay area this morning. And we are socked in over the bay now. Out the door we have some 50s and 60s. But no thunderstorms right now. Looks like it is going to remain dry for us looks like for the rest of the day. In fact, this low you can see it right now the core of it beginning to make its way into far Northern California so skipping now north of the bay area. That means our skies are going to clear out nicely. By the afternoon well see a lot of 80s and comfortable temperatures inland. 60s and 70s around the bay and 60s at the coast. Continues to move well past at t park into San Francisco. Lets go to our maps. We still have that roadwork that continues. They have been doing a lot of ongoing roadwork closing connector ramps northbound 280 to northbound 880 interchange. Yesterday there was Emergency Repair work. This doesnt sound like thats it. Should be wrapping up by about 5 00 this morning. In the meantime, the main lines of the freeway in the south bay still look grade. 101, 280 through downtown and guadalupe parkway 87 all moving at thely. Thats the latest from here in the traffic center. They are all moving at the limit. Back to you. In a matter of days the new eastern span of the bay bridge will finally be open and this morning we are seeing exactly what it will look like to drive over it. As kpix 5s Christin Ayers reports, some of the changes are startling and might take a bit of getting used to. Reporter drape cables, a rising tower, caltrans released this animated video simulating what drivers will experience when they pull on to the new eastern span. The visuals are stunning. But the road itself will also be different. No sharp turns like the dreaded s curve. It will be one slight sloping curve after another before heading into the tunnel. But the most dramatic change will be the eastbound drive from San Francisco to oakland. The cavelike tunnel blocking out east bay views a thing of the past. Instead, drivers will again encounter that canopy of cables over the selfanchored suspension span and another impressive view of the tower. You are going to see the tower and the cables immediately and you will get these great views of the east bay. But we do ask despite that wow factor that drivers leave the gawking to their passengers. Reporter there will be a lot to gawk at. Drivers will see traffic driving parallel westbound past cyclists and walkers on the bridges bike path and head toward a clear view of the Oakland Hills. Christin ayers, kpix 5. One thing not included in the simulation is the old bay bridge. In reality, it will still be standing for years before being torn down. Caltrans says the simulation shows how the new bridge will look through years from now. Opening day is about 12 days away. Remember, the old bridge will be closed by this time next week so plan your commute accordingly. For whole foods, business is booming. Turn it over, yay, woo the grocery chain broke ground yesterday on a new store near the shark tank in san jose. The store will feature the chains first microbrewery and rooftop beer garden. Some question whether its too highend for the neighborhood. But whole foods says it will offer a range of prices and provide about 100 new jobs when it opens next summer. In other bay area news, its not an official negotiating session but bart management and leaders of its unions will meet behind closed doors today. The meeting is one item for this mornings bart board of directors meeting in oakland. The examiner reports some San Francisco Business Leaders are urging Governor Brown to personally get involved in the contract talks. A Court Hearing is scheduled today regarding the sierra lamar kidnap murder case. The hearing is to review the status of evidence that prosecutors sent to lawyers for defendant Antolin Garcia torres. Sierra lamar was 15 years old when she was last seen near morgan hill last march. Torres was charged with murder and kidnap a couple of months later but she has not been found. 4 39. An army veteran from san jose needs your help finding his service dog. Lobo is a German Shepherd collie mix that ran off tuesday in the berryessa area after being spooked by noise. Police say an elderly driver lost control of the car and crashed into the home on anson drive in the Oakland Hills yesterday. The impact dislodged the gas meter and the garage went up in flames. Indeed, today, we are watching things settling down outside. Lightning strikes further north quieting down now in the bay area. Out the door we have low clouds and fog. Temperatures in the 50s and the 60s. I think by the afternoon, well see a little sunshine in the valleys and well it should be calm outside. More seasonal around the bay area for today. Temperatures in the 80s inland. Well see 60s and 70s around the bay and 60s sunshine and clouds at the coastline. So that low finally kicking northeastward as it slides up into far Northern California. Still likely to bring some thunderstorms in their direction but i think were done with the thunderstorms here for now. So seasonal weather likely to make a return, then its going to stick around for the weekend. Around the state you have that chance of some thunderstorms in far Northern California that could spark a few more fires. Well watch out for that. 91 sacramento. 98 sunny in fresno. 68 degrees into monterey bay. Temperatures in the 70s and 80s in the south bay. 60s at the coastline. Inland valleys going to see those temperatures comfortably into the 80s inland then inside the bay well keep you mainly in the 60s and a few 70s. All right. Looking out over the next couple of days, well watch those temperatures warming up slightly tomorrow then cooling down a few more clouds over the weekend then headed below average as we start out next week. Lets check the roads with elizabeth. Thank you, lawrence. To our bridges this morning. If you are about to cross the golden gate bridge, i just saw the lanes change truck. They just drove past. You can see some flashing lights right there in our camera. So its pretty soon in the next 20 minutes or so they should have four southbound and two northbound lanes open as you can see though no big delays in either direction across the span between sausalito and San Francisco. Nimitz overnight roadwork should be wrapping up by 5 a. M. This morning it is southbound 880 from that fifth embarcadero exit all the way down to high street. Various lanes blocked again caltrans telling us everything should be picked up and cleared up by 5 00. Northbound traffic looks good. Lets go to our maps and show you what else is going on. This is in the south bay the connector ramp northbound 280 to northbound 880, this is separate from the emergency roadwork they did yesterday. This connector ramp should be reopened by about 5 00 this morning. Not causing much of a delay on the main lines of the freeway. So if you are traveling out of downtown san jose, 12 minutes from 101 to cupertino approaching highway 85. Mass transit on time. Westbound 580 usually one of our first spots to back up so far nice and light, no yellow traffic sensors so far as you make your way through the altamont pass. There is still roadwork in the westbound lanes in west livermore but no delays at this hour. Thats the latest timesaver traffic. Wall street and Global Markets are looking for a turnaround after more losses. Again stocks are down on news that top officials with the Federal Reserve are leaning towards ending the fedss massive bond buying program. The dow was below 15,000 yesterday after loseing 10 5 yesterday. Blue chips have dropped for six straight sessions. The nasdaq was down nearly 14 points yesterday. The Real Estate Market continues to power the economic recovery, though. Home sales jumped 6. 5 last month. They are up 17 from a year ago. The new figures show the Housing Market is approaching a healthy level for the First Time Since 2009. Walmart will offer a Layaway Program for the Holiday Shopping again this year. But there are some changes from last year. Its dropping a 5 entry fee but walmart will bring back a 10 cancellation fee eliminated last year. The holiday Layaway Program runs september 13 through december 13. A Major Construction project to make streets safer for pedestrians is turning into a huge headache for burlingame businesses.
