Reporter just to be clear, the two councilmembers who pushed for the guns say this will not be a freeforall killing spree. Its not my intention to go out and commit a pig genocide. We are not talking about hunting season here. Were talking about licensed trappers controlled environment and protecting the property and the safety of our residents. Reporter the Council Voted to make an exception to its ban on firing guns within city limits and says that, yes, trapped pigs can be shot. You still need a depp pri days per miss from the station to trap and euthanize them but the vote means trappers have another option besides using lethal drugs or transporting an angry 300 pounds wild boar and killing them somewhere else. What do you say to people who say this is pretty drastic . Its a drastic problem. It is a drastic tool but it is just one tool. Nobody has to use it. Reporter for two months, dry conditions have forced as many as 40 pigs down from the surrounding hills where they tear up lawns in search of grubs. The pigs caused 10,000 in damage at the almaden golf and country club. The club tried putting up a fence and hired a licensed trapper and said that if tonights vote didnt pass, the problem would have gotten much worse. Just really would have progressed to the fact that we would have been overwhelmed with the pigs. Were surrounded by homes and there was no way we can fence up the whole golf course. Its impossible. Reporter kiet do, kpix 5. Those trappers will only be able to shoot the captured pigs until february 5. That should give them a little more time to come up with a better long term plan. 4 41.
