Reporter idaho officials havent confirmed that smith is the pilot and what family members are on the plane, but neighbors believe smith was flying for pleasure with at least two of his children on board. Its windy. Lawrence will have much more on this but chp just issued a wind advisory for the carquinez bridge. I noticed it driving into work this morning, the leaves were blowing all around. Its a two hands on the Steering Wheel kind of morning and chp noticed it as well on interstate 80. Bay bridge stacking up quickly towards the foot of the maze. They turned on the metering lights earlier side of normal lets say that a little before 6 00. It looks like its building across the span now. Westbound 80 we are seeing slow sensors as you approach yerba buena island. No incidents out there right now. There was an earlier fender bender but its cleared. Chp also issued another weather related travel advisory. Its slick now some drizzle coming down highway 17 near the summit. They are saying to use extra caution this morning as you travel through the Santa Cruz Mountains heading towards los gatos. Also theres another accident just reported this time in petaluma. For a while all lanes were blocked. Now just one lane is blocked southbound 101 approaching East Washington street. But there are some delays heading southbound in the commute direction. Well have more kcbs traffic coming up. In the meantime, how low are we going to go . Heres lawrence with the forecast. With the weather. Boy, its going to be the coldest outbreak so far of the season. In fact, we are just beginning to see the cold front moving into the bay area. Once that cold front moves on by, the temperatures really going to drop. Out the door scattered showers, picked up on our hidef Doppler Radar. Mainly widely scattered showers into the north bay along the marin headlands. You see more showers making their way in that direction. The rain is not going to be the big story with the system. Its going to be the cold temperatures. Not only today but over the in next few days. Mostly cloudy skies over sfo. Possible delays there today. Temperatures now in the 40s and the 50s and not going to get a whole lot warmer than this as cold air is coming from the arctic making for chilly temperatures. In fact, tonight and tomorrow morning, some of these overnight lows likely going to be in the 20s and 30s. Thats when the skies clear out, the winds subside and well see those coldest temperatures very good chance we could see a hard freeze in some of the north bay valleys and also into the delta. So were watching that very closely over the next few days. Highs today only 53 degrees in fremont. 56 degrees in San Francisco. And about 54 degrees in san jose. You see blue over the mountains, guys . Those are temperatures for highs only in the 40s. Thats the latest forecast. Back to you. Thank you. As the cold spell hits the bay area, three cold weather shelters have just opened up in Santa Clara County to help the homeless stay warm. Kiet do is at a shelter in sunnyvale this morning. These guys were woken up about 5 a. M. Sharp. They have 275 beds here. When i say beds, i use that term very loosely. Its just a mattress on the floor with a blanket and towel. We have three locations one in sunnyvale. This is the biggest one. Theres one in san jose. And gilroy. They are all open through the end of march. This will make a very small dent. There are 7,000 homeless in Santa Clara County at night. 40 people died this year from cold weather. We ran into numerous veterans who came upon hard times. Homeless people doesnt necessarily mean they want to be homeless like myself. Im working but its not enough to get me out of this situation. Im not homeless because im lazy or a drunk. Its just my Current Situation that came upon me. Safer and warmer than being on the streets. I dont want to ride the bus all night but its just got the best thing going that i know of besides going to a hospital. Reporter that man you just heard from was James Breslin. He is riding on whats known as hotel 22. That is vtas bus line 22. And its sort of a place that the homeless go to stay warm and dry in the other months of the year. Its amazing these guys have been riding this bus for years now. Well take you on that, its kind of a heartbreaking and tragic story. Back to you. Kiet, you road vta line 22 overnight. What is it like for the people on that bus . Reporter it definitely is as i said warm and dry. A lot of them trying to sleep and when i say try its tough because its a 25mile stretch a lot of stopping and starting, the lights come back on. Only 3 of Abortion Services and in fact at this location we are not going to do abortions by surgery, just abortion by medication. Reporter if this all sounds familiar thats because planned parenthood has been down this road before in redwood city. In fact, the last proposal was about a block away two years ago. Back then, the lack of Parking Spaces made planned parenthood back off its plans. If they dont get those Parking Spaces, right, they dont get to have their clinic here. Right . We want planned parenthood out of redwood city. Reporter the clinic opens tomorrow. But patients may have to make their way through some protestors. In redwood city, ryan takeo, kpix 5.
