Kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is outside the indicted senators San Francisco home. Eys political future could be out of his hands this morning. Reporter as far as we know, senator yee is still inside his home. He hasnt made any public appearances since leaving a federal courthouse on wednesday and kpix 5 has learned that he is fighting to keep his job and isnt backing down despite calls to resign. Now, according to a capital source familiar with the discussions, yee has told Senate Leaders he would like to take a leave of absence but he is not formally requesting paid leave. A spokesman for Senate President pro tem Darrell Steinberg said he couldnt confirm those conversations but said senator steinberg did repeat the two choices he gave yee that he should resign or he will be removed by his fellow senators in a vote. Leave. Dont burden your colleagues and this Great Institution with your troubles. Leave. Reporter meanwhile, yee is no longer a candidate for state office. His attorney read aloud a letter the senator wrote to the secretary of state. Right now, we do have a live look at the capital. One of the planes in a new search area spot some objects today but couldnt confirm they are from the plane. They are looking at radar information and now decided the plane was going faster than previously thought. That means two things. It would have run out of fuel faster but it also means the plane could have been closer to the west coast of australia so that means that the search planes that go out about 680 miles northeast of where they were looking yesterday can spend longer in the search area because they wont run out of fuel as quickly. Six ships are also headed to that new area. Now to developing news out of Washington State. Officials say the number of dead in that massive mud slide will likely rise substantially. As teri okita reports, more than 200 rescue workers are battling physical and mental fatigue in the search for victims. Reporter the search continues for survivors of victims of the Washington State mud slide. More than two dozen people are known dead, many more have yet to be located. 90 people continue to be currently missing or unaccounted for. Reporter searchandrescue crews have not found any survivors since saturday. But they have been here every day from dawn to dusk using heavy machines and bare hand to search for live in the chaos. If you could imagine houses, trees and a bunch of mud put in a blender and run for a bit and then dumped back on the ground, thats what it looks like. Reporter exhaustion is just one problem facing rescuers who have to fight through waist deep mud to reach the slide area. Then theres emotional fatigue. Going through the rubble, i see the exact same things at my house, my little ponies, thats what makes it tough. The body of a fourmonthold girl was found yesterday not far from where her grandmothers body was recovered on sunday. A montana newlywed gets 30 years in prison for push her husband off a cliff 22yearold Jordan Graham was sentenced yesterday. Investigators say that she admitted to luring her new husband cody johnson to Glacier National park and shoving him off a cliff last year. She pleaded guilty to Second Degree murder. The victims family wanted life in prison but they say that they are still happy with the outcome. A fair sentence i believe is life. She took his life, she owes her life. I feel that i can move forward from this. She tried to change her plea before sentencing but the judge didnt go for it. San franciscobased pg e says it expects to face federal criminal charges. The potential charges would be in connection with the 2010 explosion and fire caused by a faulty gas pipeline in san bruno. Eight people were killed, dozens of others were injured, and 38 homes destroyed. I have always said that the death of eight people because of the ineptitude of a public utility not watching what theyre doing is criminal. Pg e released a statement saying its accountable for the accident and has learned that safety must always come first. In other headlines around the bay area this morning, an emeryville man is charged with murder after he allegedly killed a u. S. Marine while drunk driving in fremont. Police say 23yearold Alexander Yohn hit and killed 23yearold andrew silva with his mini cooper early thursday morning. Im sorry, early tuesday morning. Silva was on a motorcycle. Yohn crashed into a utility pole while running from officers. A woman was arrested for trespassing at the San Francisco airport for the second time in a week. Investigators say 62yearold Marilyn Hartman was spotted at a baggage claim without a boarding pass. A judge had ordered her not to be on airport property without one since she has a history of trying to sneak on planes. One of them sat down next to her and said you know youre not supposed to be here. She realized she is not supposed to be there but unfortunately, she just keeps coming back. Police say hartman has tried three times to get on planes to hawaii. Once she actually made it on the plane before she was caught. These billboards show distracted drivers caught in the act not only texting also some of them eating or putting on makeup. They werent put up by Law Enforcement or Safety Coalition but by a lone Graphic Designer who started taking picture as a passenger in a vehicle and putting them up on a website he called twitspotting.
