The heat made it tough for the cyclists in the amgen tour in california. They went from Lake Cunningham park in san jose to the tops of Mount Hamilton and mount diablo in 90degree heat. It was grueling just being a spectator, let alone a cyclist. Cooling centers will be open for anyone looking to beat the heat. The Senior Center and dublin public library, and facilities in other bay area cities will be open for people who need to beat the heat on a hot day today. This is the peak of the heat today. This is it. It is going to be hotter around the bay area. We are going to see falling records in the bay area. A warm start to the day 60s and 70s already this morning. Out the door we go. It looks like that ridge of High Pressure strengthening today with that offshore wind record heat all around. Heat advisories of course up again today going to see those temperatures in the 90s, the low 100s. And these numbers are going to be very impressive. Out the door, we have clear skies again, 60 degrees already in livermore, 64 in San Francisco. And 62 degrees in san jose. This afternoon, here comes some triple digits showing up in the valleys. You will see a lot of 90s around the bay with numerous records there and even along the coastline maybe some mid 80s right into pacifica. Lets check the roads with elizabeth. Thank you, lawrence. Overall were off to a good start. Heading to the bay bridge not much delay at the bridge. Its getting there thats still the issue once again that ongoing roadwork in the maze may see westbound 580 to eastbound 80 that connector remains closed. Should be wrapping up within the half hour. But just heads up use eastbound 80 by following the detours in the parking lot. Both directions of highway 37 once again shut down major paving between 121 and 29. Yesterday they picked up everything around 5 00. So that looks to be the case again today. Heres a live look westbound 92 holding steady. A driver hit the Center Divide around 9 30 last night. That set off a chainreaction accident. 6 cars ended up crashing into each other. At least one person was hurt. The entire freeway was closed so a lifeflight helicopter could land. Traffic was backed up for miles for more than two hours. Magic johnson responding now to comments made about him made by l. A. A girl has been found. The girls mother told kpix 5 she dozed off on monday and when she woke up, her daughter was gone. It turns out, the girl wandered into a church on international boulevard monday night. A woman from the church took the girl home and called Police Yesterday morning. This is my first time hearing this. And i dont know why they wont bring me my daughter. They wont tell me, you know, this is kind of weird now. The police wont call me. They wont tell me they found my child. They wouldnt do nothing. What if they took your daughter forever . I wouldnt know what to do. At this point, police are not revealing why they are holding off on letting the girl go home. San francisco has started installing a traffic light at one of its most dangerous intersections. The signal will go in at sunset and yerba streets and should be up and running by july. It was originally going to be installed next year. The city fast tracked the project because of several accidents at that intersection. The latest happened last week. A car hit a woman in a crosswalk there. She broke her shoulder, had other cuts and bruises. The driver that had struck her was cited. Police are looking for a man accused of Sexual Battery in berkeley. He is identified as 50yearold roger lopez. A woman who goes to ucberkeley says he groped her near peoples park. The accuser told police she was walking along dwight way monday night when the man yelled at her, ran across the street and grabbed her. Lopez is a registered sex offender. Thirdgrader removed from his school in fremont for sexually harassing a classmate. Kpix 5s betty yu reports, victims mother says she got action after she passed out flyers to some of the other parents. The flyer warns that your child may be at risk. Were talking about a 7year old boy accused of sexually harassing an 8yearold classmate at hersch elementary school. He grabbed her private areas and then came behind her and like was making motions that he was having sex with her. Reporter kim white says this happened twice in the last six weeks at the fremont school. The first time she said the school suspended the boy for one day. The second time, she said the principal gave her two options, the boy would be transferred to a different classroom or her daughter could switch schools. Thats not all that upset her. Then she asked me why my daughter didnt punch him in the face. So from there i asked her what i told her my daughter would not be coming back to campus as long as the boy is here. The allegations were taken very seriously. And, uhm, after meeting with the parents, a decision was made that the boy will not be returning to that school. Reporter kimberly says she is grateful for the decision. Still, she filed a formal complaint against the principal. She kept her daughter at home since last week. And she isnt thrilled about coming back. I dont know if its that she is afraid. I dont know if that she is ashamed. I dont know if its that shes embarrassed. I just know she really doesnt want to. It regulates the entire industry from growers to the dispensaries. The bill also calls for a new department under the alcohol and Beverage Control to monitor the pot industry. I walk out and see the bouncy house go up and the first little boy came out landed in the middle of the road right there and then the other little boy came down hit his head off the back of my car right there and then he landed on the ground. Reporter a girl who was also in the bounce house when it went up escaped with only minor scratches and bruises. The two boys were not as lucky. They fell about 15 feet. By the time the ambulance got here and everybody and they rolled him over and put him on the stretcher, the face and whole front of his body was covered in blood. Reporter after the boys were thrown from the house it continued to travel hundreds of feet. Witnesses say the owners of the house had put it up correctly and staked it security in the ground. New this morning, cannabis in the classroom. A new marijuana themed university in colorado is hosting classes in denver. Cloverleaf University Offers courses in cannabis cultivation, infusion and marijuana business. The university has courses accredited by the Colorado Supreme Court board for continuing legal education. Its website also states it is approved, licensed and regulated by the state. This is the peak of the heat. A cooling trend at the coastline, hot in the valleys. Today record heat all around the state and air quality is bad after High Pressure caps the air and pollutants build up outside. So it is another spare the air day. Temperatures 90s and triple digits into the central valley, 88 in yosemite. 90s and triple digits toward morgan hill. 80s at the coastline before the sea breeze kicks in. Many 100degree readings in the valleys and inside the bay, going to be hot. 93 in alameda. 95 in san rafael and 93 degrees in petaluma. Next couple of days well start to cool things down. So far not hopeful. How important is this one hospital . Kpix 5 spent a night in the emergency room to find out. Ken bastida reports. You know if youre a Police Officer you go to the crime, im an e. R. Doctor i come where the doctor, the violence, the things that make me glad to do what i do. Reporter for a quarter million people, this emergency room is the last best hope when something goes wrong. When my mother got sick, we had to rush her over here to doctors hospital. Not the ideal place come hang out. [ laughter ] but at least if you need to be here, it will be here. Without a doubt. Without a doubt this is the workhorse. We are the engine that drives healthcare in this community. Reporter 40,000 patients a year, about 110 every day, including 62 of the regions ambulance calls. And on any given night 20 to 30 children that were sick, two or three patients that had a heart attack, two or three patients that had a stroke. Gunshot wounds, probably one every week. We had a refinery fire where we saw, what, 12,000 people in four or five days. Still a little shaky here no more drinking tonight. The drunk, indigent, homeless. The county says it doesnt have the money to take over the hospital so Doctors Medical center is expected to close in july. Well, advertisers are targeting you all the time.
