Scattered showers there continuing north in the sacramento area. Still, a little unsettled toward the afternoon. Out the door, the temperatures a little mild this morning. 50s and a whole lot of 60s and by the afternoon, we are going to help to clear out your skies in most spots and send those temperatures up into the 60s and 70s inside the bay. 70s and 80s in the valley. 60s with patchy fog along the coastline. Two people are in the hospital, their dog and cat are also being treated this morning. Thats after their apartment caught fire in san leandro. Kpix 5s anne makovec is in the ashland area of Alameda County with the latest. Reporter good morning. Its a wonder this did not turn into a worse situation. You can see the window here behind me on the bottom apartment. Thats where this fire started. It didnt even spread to the apartment above it. Firefighters made very quick work at this fire. Two people and two pets though were injured here on 159th avenue. Looks like the fire started in the kitchen. A man who lives here had first , second and thirddegree burns to his face and chest. He was taken to st. Francis hospital in San Francisco where they have a specialized burn unit. A woman was taken away as well with smoke inhalation. She is expected to be okay. But check out this video, a dog and a cat, they suffered from severe smoke inhalation. Firefighters had to give them oxygen at one point. Firefighters did not know if the dog and the cat would make it but they are both at the emergency vets right now. And they are expected to survive. This fire broke out at about 1 00 this morning. Right now its still under investigation but we think its probably attributed to cooking. Reporter the fire was contained to the kitchen of that apartment. Crews had it out in 10 minutes. No damage to the other apartment in the building. There were three here. Anne makovec, kpix 5. The woman is responding to treatment at a local hospital after she was seriously injured during an attack following yesterdays giants game in San Francisco. It began with an argument outside the stadium shortly after the giants lost to the oakland as. One man punched another man in the face. And then investigators say the woman who was wearing an as cap tried to break up the fight. She was also hit in the face and then hit her head on the sidewalk and lost consciousness. Witnesses told police that two male suspects drove away in a gold tundra pickup. A shootout at a north bay Jewelry Store put a robbery suspect in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. A second suspect is still on the loose this morning. The shooting happened during a botched robbery attempt at a small Jewelry Store in santa rosa. Kpix 5s joe vazquez has comments from the store manager who shot back. Reporter witnesses say the two men Wearing Masks moved quickly into the store. Within seconds, the first barrage of gunfire. An employee was hit. So were both suspects. The first guy came out and he kind of was wobbling and he got into his mustang, a red mustang, and then more shots fired and the other guy came out shortly after and collapsed right there in the street. [ sirens ] Reporter Police arrived and took the severely wounded suspected into custody, then paramedics rushed him to the hospital. About a quarter mile away chopper 5 over the scene of a Shopping Center where police say they recovered the getaway car that red mustang. Neighbors were ordered to shelter in place. Stay inside while officers and their dogs went door to door looking for that suspect who got away. That search was later suspended. Im just glad i was here today. Reporter tyvisscher the store manager wont say whether he shot the gunman. My main concern is for my employee suzanne. She is doing fine. I just want to say thank you to the community. Reporter he says the employee who was shot in the arm is expected to survive. Huge amount of concern goes towards suzanne. A year ago three men from the east bay were arrested after a robbery at the same store. A strange twist in the case of a prostitute and a google executive. The woman accused in a heroin overdose death in santa cruz had a boyfriend in georgia who died the same way. Now police there are taking a second look at Alix Tichelman in connection with that death. No conjecture, just looking at the similarities of the two situations. But obviously, were going to go back and look at it and make sure that everything that we determined to be correct almost a year ago is still factual and still accurate. After Forrest Hayes was found dead on his yacht in santa cruz, police say tichelman searched online for information on legally defending herself after giving a lethal dose of heroin. A weeklong wildfire burning near the solanoyolo county line is now 92 contained. But thats after burning nearly 6500 acres at Monticello Dam near the southeast shore of lake berryessa. With full containment expected soon, some firefighters are being sent elsewhere. Cause of the fire unknown. A wildfire in the state of washington keeps getting bigger burning more than 18,000 acres near entiat in the central part of the state. The fire started on tuesday. So far, a dozen homes have been evacuated. And another 200 homes are considered threatened. A spike in the number of west nile virus cases among birds in the south bay has Vector Control officials concerned. So far this year, Santa Clara County has logged 286 infected birds. Thats about 60 of all the cases in california. Three times the number found in the county in all of last year. Possible early warm temperatures and lack of rainfall are causes for the jump. Happening today, a woman with a name similar to that of a famous aviator will land in oakland to complete an around theworld trip. Her full name is Amelia Rose Earhart and is not related to Amelia Mary Earhart who vanished during a solo flight in 1936. The approaches still look okay including 580 and im not seeing any major brake lights yet. Westbound 580 through the Livermore Valley different story. The heaviest traffic is from 205 to vasco and then it loosens up a little bit but that drive time is about a half hour between the Altamont Pass and the dublin interchange. South bay everything is clearing 85, 87, 101 and 280 through downtown. Highway 17 fine out of the santa cruz mountains. 12 minutes between 280 and 237. And only about 11 minutes between 101 on 280 between there and cupertino. And heres a live look at another bridge. The approach to the Richmond San Rafael bridge toll plaza, slight delays but obviously nothing big to slow you down into marin county out of the east bay. We are seeing some showers in the Central Valley with thunderstorms overnight toward chico and redding. Some of the showers are rotating in that direction. All that from the monsoonal moisture. Toward the afternoon we are expecting our skies to begin to clear out. Temperatures will be warming up nicely. But there will be an afternoon breeze to keep from you getting too hot. Much warmer temperatures over the weekend maybe back into the 90s in some of the valleys. Right now, High Pressure over the four corners sending some moisture in our direction. Same with the low kind of funneling that moisture up into california. Bringing some of the monsoonal clouds in that direction, as well. Temperatures in the Central Valley 80s and 90s. Be careful heading to the high country. You could see some thunderstorms in the afternoon over the sierra nevada. And also parts of northern california. Temperatures around the bay area today should be fairly mild and cool toward the coastline mainly in the 60s there. Low clouds and fog and the fog going to surge back onshore overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. Otherwise, well see a lot of sunshine in between. 79 degrees in san jose.
