You can see the rain coming down northbound and southbound 880 looking okay near the oakland coliseum. Again, accident involving a tanker truck and car this time westbound 980 at 880. Chp says theres a lot of standing water in the road so that obviously did not help the commute in that area. They are working to clear that accident. Heres anothering anful another angle of the bay bridge toll plaza. No big wait and no metering lights yet. So we have seen i think two or three accidents now on the other side westbound 80 right around that 9th street exit. This one is clearing now. Be careful in both directions. Chp calling this major flooding right now on the central freeway and skyway. That is a very busy kcbs drive to work already. Back to you guys. All right. Thank you, elizabeth. 5 03. Dozens of people remain out of their Mountain View apartments this morning after report of a gas leak led to the discovery of two dead bodies. Mark sayre joins us live in Mountain View with the latest. Reporter this is still an active scene here and as you said Police Investigating the discovery of two dead bodies, lets show you what we have here. We are on california street. This is right near south rangesdorf avenue and el camino real. The Fire Department set up a command post. Mountain view police have the street closed. It was about 6 00 last night, police and fire crews were called here on the report of a strong odor of possible natural gas. Now, that odor was so strong that Police Ordered the evacuation of two apartment buildings and issued a shelter in place order for another. But once fire crews started going through the buildings, they found two bodies inside one of the apartment units. Now, at this point, there is no information on whether those bodies are connected to this odor in any way. There is no way to say that for sure. Police at this point also not saying if theres any suspected foul play involved. Those who were evacuated are staying at a nearby Evacuation Center and Neither Police nor Mountain View fire officials at this point can give us any idea when this will be open and perhaps some of these residents are allowed back into their homes. Was anyone else hurt . Reporter there were four Police Officers who originally responded to the scene. Those Police Officers were treated for some symptoms related to whatever that odor was. Again, theres no confirmation that that odor was in fact natural gas. But they were treated at the scene, released and fine. We are not aware of any civilians that received any kind of medical treatment here on the scene. Okay, mark sayre live in Mountain View. Thanks, mark developing news, now. The u. S. Albert einstein, george alex jenny jenny carlos alex carlos good morning burrito team we set out to make a bigger, tastier breakfast burrito and i think we nailed it. Introducing bigger, better breakfast burritos. The grande sausage, packed with hash browns, sausage, and creamy sriracha sauce and the meat lovers, stuffed with ham, bacon and sausage, both wrapped in a warm guerrero tortilla. Burritos so big, they make everything look smaller. Di vinci all had something common. They were dyslexic. Its true but it certainly didnt stop them from making their mark. But, it takes effort and an educational albert einstein, George Washington and others have something in common dyslexic. It takes an Educational Program to get over that hump. Thats what Athena Academy is all about. Its this weeks cool school. Reporter i would start with this one. Reporter imagine a grade school where the student teacher ratio is 6 1, where team work is a daily habit, and creativity is a must. Its here in palo alto. Athena academy, a school for gifted students that have difficulty reading. Its actually this paradox where you have trouble learning to read but these kids are very bright, very gifted in things like designing, inventing. Reporter and its that creative visual spirit that drives the curriculum here at athena. By simply using clay to mold the letters in the word friend, students are able to visualize, understand and spell the word. Its that handson education that gives dyslexic kids the upper hand in reading. The clay helps me read because you get to feel it and its kind of a fun activity. Reporter making it fun keeps students engaged like designing a Candy Wrapper in math class. Its a sweet way to learn about ratios and proportions and using that visual medium that clicks with these rightbrain thinkers. I think it helps us memorize it and just get used to all the numbers and by doing fun stuff. I think i was able to start learning right away and using how to read and write better. I love reading books now. Reporter Athena Academy started with the founders kids, 12yearold angela and her twin brother danny. Now some three years later has grown to 24 students, ages 7 to 14. 7yearold owen just enrolled and his progress is through the roof. As a mom who has been struggling through two different schools now trying to find the fit for the very bright loquacious little boy who just cant read yet, its a miracle. I can relax. I can breathe again. Yeah. I was talking to the founder and she said that some kids that come in there just for a shadow day actually leave all the better for it just one day making a big difference. Amazing. Its amazing what the visual part can do for you. Yeah. Thats what its all about because the kids have a right side brain thinking and so they see everything visually as opposed to reading and that kind of thing. They currently have grades 2 through 7. They double every year and hope to have an 8th grade next fall. Right now 24 kids started with two. Very cool. What is cool about your school . Email your nominations to coolschools kpix. Com. We may come and feature your school on the show. Good story, frank. Okay. 5 15. Californias figuring out how its going to spend almost 700 million in emergency drought funds. So far the state is ready to fund more than 100 projects all throughout the state. About 200 million will go towards everything from new wells to replacing pipelines. Its expected to be approved by the end of the next month. State Water Department has another 250 million it will hand out for projects next spring. I know it wont make a difference in the drought but its a welcome sight. Lets get it going. We are seeing the showers starting early and seeing some good rainfall around the bay area very slick out there on the roads this morning. The cold front right now pulling through town. Here it is on our hidef Doppler Radar. You can see it sliding through the north bay first. Now making its way through the central bay and into San Francisco. We are seeing pretty good showers moderate to heavier amounts of rainfall now making its way through. If you havent seen it yet, its headed in your direction. This cold front is sliding in. We have pockets of rain into san mateo and redwood city and half moon bay. Not a whole lot of rain just yet into milpitas and sunnyvale and san jose. But its coming in your direction. So be prepared for that. So we are going to see that rain moving through the bay area this morning. I think by about the middle of the morning, a lot of that is going to be tapering off. Theres a chance we could still see an isolated thunderstorm with the system as it slides through. But we are going to see mostly sunny conditions and mild weather as we head into the weekend. Heres that cold front making its way into the bay area now. You have the trough thats really digging its way along the california coastline. That is helping to support the system. It is going to be a slow mover as it moves on by this morning. But as we head toward the afternoon, things start to dry out. A lot of rain around the state too as we are going to see showers up in the sierra nevada. Thats good news for the folks fighting that king fire there. It looks like they will get some muchneeded rain for them. All right. Heres a system right now just pulling its way on through sliding on by. By 8 00, 9 00, we are going to see it sliding into san jose all the way into morgan hill and gilroy down into the monterrey day. But then just scattered showers behind that. And we are going to see some sunshine between the breaks in the clouds and the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm but i think the worst of it comes through this morning and then the weather should start to improve. Temperaturewise, we are going to see a lot of 70s into the south bay this afternoon with a little sunshine and a few clouds. 60s at the coastline, east bay up in the 70s in many spots and inside the bay sunshine this afternoon, some 60s and some low 70s. Next couple of days, weather going to stay unsettled, maybe even a thunderstorm tomorrow as the main area of low pressure going to push through the bay area. Then on saturday and sunday, return to some sunshine and dry weather. Mild conditions continuing right through monday and tuesday of next week. Time to check on those roads now with elizabeth. We arent used to driving in the rain. Its been so long. Maybe a little bit yesterday. But todays the real issue. We are seeing a lot of different incidents. Chp working 17 or 18 different accidents flooding reports all around the bay area. So well show you what it looks like. This is oakland and probably our worst Traffic Alert right now is in the oakland area. Southbound so well show you where it is. Its a tanker truck versus car and this is a slightly new location so its actually on the southbound lanes of 880 approaching 980. Chp says they are going to have several lanes blocked for the next couple of hours. But hoping to reopen lanes by about 7 00 but again, theres a lot of flooding apparently standing water up to four inches in that area. So they have blocked off the area. Again, that was involving a big rig and another car, as well. Chp on scene now. Were already seeing those delays heading out of the oakland area. Just kind of bottlenecking there for about one exit behind the crash. Also westbound 580 very heavy rain obviously following right now in the pleasanton area. They did pick up the overnight roadwork hacienda to san ramon road so we are just seeing the usual delays coming out of the livermore valley. Chp is calling major flooding spread out all lanes leaving San Francisco southbound 280 approaching mariposa exit the 280 extension. They were talking about standing water up to 8 on parts of the central freeway and skyway so thats a hot spot right there all around San Francisco freeways. Heres a live look at the san mateo bridge. Westbound 92 looks okay in hayward. A new accident along peninsula southbound 101 approaching poplar. A couple of lanes blocked there, please be extra careful or use mass transit. Back to you guys. All right. Thank you, elizabeth. In a rare move, apple pulled and update to its ois8 operating system shortly after launching the ios 8 system. It was supposed to fix problems with text messaging and health kit but it backfired big time. People who downloaded it complained they were unable to make calls or use the touch id fingerprint sensor. 5 20 now.
