Rainfall is subsiding around 680 in san jose over the sunol grade. Right there fremont, around the centreville district, you have light rail. We go upstream a bit and then you have another batch of energy thats now pushing into the pittsburg area and antioch, youll hear a few raindrops, as well. Right now temperatures are in the 40s and 50s. Later today thats the back side of yesterdays frontal boundary that produced up to 2. 5 of rain. Now behind it, another storm thats poised in position to move into the bay area and it will aversely affect your evening commute. Meanwhile, highs today in the 50s and 60s, we have rain today, a lingering shower or two on wednesday. The completely dry day will be on thursday. Then we queue it up again for storm number 3 on friday. It looks like the wet weather is causing a major hot spot and a Traffic Alert now. All lanes closed on highway 17 a full highway closure both directions. We got this updated travel advisory saying all lanes are blocked southbound at the summit. Northbound not going anywhere past sugarloaf so drivers are just sitting there in their cars right now just waiting to be let through. We have been on and off the phone with chp kind of waiting to see if they have an estimated time when they are going to be able to reopen some lanes. But this is a large tree that fell on the roadway took down some power lines as well so it sounds like this could be a large cleanup. We have sent our own kiet do owe to the scene so well be getting a live report from him. Hopefully. He is probably stuck in traffic too. I hope he doesnt get stuck. Unless he is running on the shoulder. I know. I guess. So he is trying. Well see. The storm has also caused major damage in the south bay. Two electrical poles, cables and transformer came down at the villa teresa Mobile Home Park in san jose yesterday morning. A carport was crushed. Scared residents came running out of their homes with rain falling, water on the ground and live wires everywhere, a move pg e says was very dangerous. Cables are on the house so thats why he was over here because his house wasnt safe. They actually had about four houses redtagged so they couldnt go in until they had the problem fixed. And as he said, four houses were redtagged because of the damage. Police say the bones have been there for about a year. No word yet on the persons age, gender or cause of death. Tonight activists will stage a rally right before a Berkeley City Council meet to complain about police practices. The council is allowing time for Public Comments on recent protests some of which led to clashes with officers but even before that, the berkeley naacp and other groups will make demands about how the police should conduct themselves. Richmonds police chief is speaking publicly about his participation in a recent protest march. This picture shows chief chris magnus carrying a sign he was asked to hold up saying black lives matter. He says he was not trying to make a political statement, which is prohibited for uniformed officers. Rather, he says, it was about the importance of Police Acting humanely. I looked at it for a minute and realized, you know, this is actually pretty innocuous, the idea that black lives matter is something that i would think we should all be able to agree upon. Of course, my feeling is all lives matter. I thought it was an important gesture of good will. Magnus is surprised the image has gone viral. Most of the reaction, he says, is positive. The San Francisco board of supervisors will vote later today on a 3 million settlement in the case of a woman found in a San Francisco General Hospital stairwell. Lynne spaldings family would receive the money from the city of San Francisco and the university of california to settle the claim. Spalding disappeared in september of last year. Her body was found 17 days later. Today south bay officials will consider a plan aimed at improving Emergency Response times. The issue goes before both the San Jose City council and the Santa Clara County board of supervisors today. The goal here is to get the San Jose Fire Department to meet ontime standards for at least 90 of the 911 calls. A proposal contract restores funding that the county had withheld because of slow response times. Good news for anyone who hasnt enrolled in a Healthcare Plan yet. The deadline to get coverage through covered california has been extended. Customers now have until midnight on sunday to enroll for coverage starting january 1. This applies to new and renewing customers. Teens are using ecigarettes more than the real thing. As regular smoking by teens has dropped to new lows, cdc researchers say nearly 10 of 8th graders use ecigarettes. The smoking increases with age. 16 of 10th graders say they used an ecigarette. 17 of High School Seniors did, too. But it will become stormy this afternoon right after lunchtime. Steady heavy rain chance of thunderstorm and breezy conditions. And we continue to follow some breaking news this morning. The Pakistan Taliban is claiming responsibility for an attack on a military school. At least 126 people mostly children were killed. Police sources say at least 6 terrorists entered the school after scaling its walls. Army Officials Say most of the 500 students have been evacuated. The school is located in peshawar, which has been the target of frequent militant attacks in the past. Bill cosbys wife is finally breaking her silence. Camille cosby defended her husband calling him, quote, a kind and generous man. Mrs. Cosby also said the legendary comedian is not the same person who has been recently portrayed by the media. The statements come following claims by many women who say he drugged and sexually assaulted them in the past. Cosby has never been charged with a related crime. Australias largest city is in disbelief after a hostage standoff in a downtown cafe left three dead including a gunman. The 50yearold monis was well known to authorities as have a violent criminal history, mental instability and extremist views. He was freed on bail after being charged as an accessory to his exwifes murder. He wasnt on a terror watch list. Were all outraged he was out the streets. Reporter it was a lone gunman not part of a terrorist plot. Man haron monis has a connection to the bay area. He was charged as the accessory in the murder of his exwife with family in hayward. His godfather had a bad feeling about his from the first time they met. He was out on bail. And you know, if he would have still be in jail, this wouldnt have happened. The godfather says monis wrote letters to the families of australian war veterans killed in iraq and gloated about their deaths. The city of san bruno wants the California Public Utilities Commission to release 65,000 emails between them and pg e. The emails are from 2010 to 2014 about the deadly pipeline explosion in san bruno. Eight people died, 66 injured. Earlier this year an email exchange surfaced between the Commission Officials and pg e executives about the pending cases and the selection of judges for the cases. Bart is going to replace three old escalators that keep breaking down. Two are at powell station, the other at civic center. So again highway 9 is probably your best bet right now. We havent heard of any incidents there. You can use the long way around 152 to 101 which still looks relatively clear. But again, thats a major hot spot well get a live report coming up. The eastbound lanes of 580 in livermore approaching springtown we have an accident there a spinout and then a car hit another car so one lane is blocked. It is countercommute so its not causing a major delay. Westbound we are seeing the usual slow traffic out of tracy on 205. And then it clears out past north flynn so the drive times still look okay. This was bad yesterday during the rain. 17 minutes between the Altamont Pass and the dublin interchange. Heres a live look at the bay bridge. Looks okay so far into San Francisco. No weather advisories westbound. Ponding in the road was cleared on the skyway eastbound 80 approaching 7th. Now all directions look okay. Another reminder to take it slow. Just nearly two and three quarters in san rafael so when you couplele that up with another 2 within 48 hours the soil will be saturated and it will be breezy. So we anticipate more downed trees and power lines h right now its in the 40s and 50s. The winds are breezy out of the southeast up to 15 Miles Per Hour. A few scattered showers this morning. This is all lingering showers from yesterdays storm number one. We will have steady rain and locally heavy at times for the evening commute as well as southeast winds up to 20 Miles Per Hour. This is yesterdays storm. This is storm number 2 right here thats gathering some strength and momentum taking a direct aim on the bay area. And behind me, way upstream, thats storm number 3 that will affect your friday. Until then, lets take you through your tuesday so you know when youll need that umbrella. The next front will slice through the bay area during the afternoon hours. Thats your evening commute. Santa cruz mountains will be hard hit. Everybody is in and out of the showers. The air mass sun stable, there is a chance of the air mass is unstable, there is a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Nearly 1. 5 of rain in redwood city. Over a half inch in san jose and santa rosa. Todays high is seasonal. 50s and low 60s. A southeast wind up to 20 Miles Per Hour at times might even blow the umbrella in inside out at times. If you want to travel through Yosemite National park officials have closed two roads for the snow season up there. Two feet of snow dumping on tioga and glacier roads last week. The Yosemite Valley still open for visitors. The car of a woman nine months pregnant missing more than a week has been located. Police found the body of a woman inside the car but have not confirmed her identity. Aubrey andrews prius was found in an elk grow parking lot no one has been able to reach her since she left home december 6. Her husband says she left with nothing but the clothes on her back and she left her 3year old son behind. She has had mommys gone. I wouldnt want my son to grow up without his mom. Today dutch scientists will reveal what they found about how a famous escape from alcatraz might have worked years back. They say three prisoners absolutely could have made the swim across the bay alive. In 1962, an attempt later depicked in a feature film, using tidal records, researchers discovered timing was everything. Its really sensitive to that timing at which time they entered the water. Paddling northward between 11 and midnight the prisoners would have had a good chance of reaching land but they couldnt have made it to angel island as depicted in the hollywood film.
