We were sitting next to a piece of driftwood and i got looking at it and realized it had japanese joints. Lovemark ought to know. He is a timber framer by trade. He says the japanese are renowned four their distinct woodworking. They use tightfitting wooden joints like these seen carved on the timber on the beach for large longlasting buildings. Most likely it probably washed out during the tsunami and took three or four years to cross the ocean and wound up here. Lovemark and his colleagues believe the wood to be japanese cedar 18 feet long and could have been used to build a farmhouse or a religious shrine.
