Thank you, brian. A firebug is on the loose in Contra Costa County. Two more cars were torched overnight in lafayette. Thats where kpix 5s Jessica Flores has the latest. Reporter investigators are trying to get to the bottom of this. Who is starting all of these car fires . Were here at one of the latest ones in lafayette right behind me. You can see that one a small suv toyota and i can tell you from reporting on this story the past couple of days theres no similarities in terms of the vehicles targeted. But as crews work to put this car fire out, just about two miles away another car fire popped up. That one in walnut creek. There have been seven car fires this week all sparked during overnight hours around 2 30 to 3 30 a. M. Contra costa county Fire Protection district says they have been investigating suspicious car fires since the beginning of the year. More than 10 since january. So just in the last week, they have responded to one car fire in martinez. A total of 2 in walnut creek. 2 in lafayette. And 2 in brentwood. Luckily, fire crews have been able to stop the fires from spreading and no one has been hurt. But they do want to get to the bottom of this figure out who is behind this if theres multiple people. And they say right now, they believe these are all connected. You know, the one yesterday did start to spread to one of the houses right under the bedroom of a child, so this is extremely dangerous. Were taking this very, very seriously and we want to um, catch the person or people involved as quickly as possible see we can, you know, not have that potential any longer. Reporter the Fire Protection district wont reveal details about the investigation. But they have help from outside agencies. They are turning to the public for help. If you have video or saw something suspicious and you were in the areas around the time again this is happening in the overnight hours around 2 30 to 3 30 a. M. They say that the driver is responsible for a hitandrun collision this week in oakley. Police say the White Ford Ranger pickup truck struck a 6 yearold as he crossed the street. The truck was last seen passing vintage parkway. The child was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover fully. Anyone with information is asked to call oakley police. The man charged with killing a richmond mother in front of her children is due back in court today. Lawyer Dushan Mcbride was arrested last month in sacramento the exboyfriend of the victim. She was driving her children to daycare in richmond when someone pulled up next to her vehicle and shot her. She had a strange order against mcbride and his mercedes matched the description of the car the gunman was driving. The Justice Department has launched an investigation into the Fatal Shooting of a black teen by a white cop near dallas. Officer ray oliver shot 15year old jordan edwards last month as the teen was leaving a house party. The Edwards Family has not publicly spoken about the investigation yet but advocates for some groups spoke on their behalf. We demand answers and i will be here until the end along with these other organizations until we have justice for jordan. Oliver was arrested and fired last week. He is out on bond charged with murder. Theres a push this morning to fire the Contra Costa County district attorney. He reportedly spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on himself. Kpix 5s jackie ward is live in the newsroom with the latest. Jackie. Reporter this morning the top Law Enforcement official in Contra Costa County is admitting he broke the law. District attorney Mark Peterson secretly took more than 66,000 of his Campaign Money and spent it on himself over five years. He used it for travel, hotels, restaurants, movie tickets. On top of that, he failed to report the spending on Campaign Finance disclosure forms according to the grand jury. That is why it is calling for petersons removal. In december, peterson issued this statement saying he regrets and acknowledges the mistakes he made regarding his Campaign Financing account. He also agreed to pay 45,000 in fines to the fair political practices commission. At that time, peterson also said he considered the money to be loans and that he was paying the Campaign Funds back. The District Attorneys Office says they have no comment at this time. In the newsroom, jackie ward, kpix 5.
