Police in San Francisco now have the gun they believe was used to murder a woman at pier 14 on wednesday night. Multiple sources tell kpix 5 they successfully recovered a gun from the bay believed to be the weapon used to murder 32 yearold kate steinle. Just as commuters were crowding the embarcadero alongside joggers and tourists. San Francisco Police say 45 yearold Francisco Sanchez just walked up to a random woman and opened fire. It happened so fast, kate didnt immediately realize she had been hit. There were no words exchanged between the suspect and the victim. The victim said something to her family members to the extent that she didnt feel well like something she realized that something had just taken place with respect to her and she fell to the ground. Reporter bystanders including her own father tried to do cpr but it was too late. Sanchez was arrested a short time later about a mile south over by pier 40. Police say he is from texas and is on probation from there. For what crime . Investigators arent saying. Sanchez gave a statement to police and that along with evidence collected at the scene landed him here at the county jail charged with suspicion of murder. In San Francisco, joe vazquez, kpix 5. The next generation of self driving cars launches from that garage right there behind me. The new pod car design finally hit the public streets last week. But since theres only two on the road and they only drive a few minutes a day, catching a glimpse is rare. For now, this is some of the first video taken of them out on a public street. The computer is set to a very cautious defensive driving mode so its limited to 25 miles an hour. We saw them come to a complete stop at the line so no rolling california stops here. We also saw that they seemed to prefer driving more towards the middle of the street. So for now human passengers are still required to take over in case of an emergency. So do not expect to see them driving around empty. The california dmv has not yet resolved how they are going to handle that. So thats why you dont see any Autonomous Vehicles on road without any drivers. Because that is not allowed right now. Reporter so the company only has two of these pod cars on the public streets. But google has 25 total registered with the dmv. So expect to see many more of these pod cars rolling out over the next knew months and weeks.
