Well, the river and beaches still open for recreation, but people are advised to stay out of standing water and avoid any algae they see. A day at the beach ends with a bay area kite surfer flying into oncoming traffic. A strong gust of wind threw him right onto the great highway near San Franciscos ocean beach, then a car hit him. The kite surfer got stuck under the suv. An ambulance took him to a hospital with lifethreatening injuries. It is a relatively safe sport. You definitely need to be a more expert level when you come out in wind like this today. One kite surfer says the man who was hurt probably couldnt reach his emergency release in time. His kite was too big for the wind conditions yesterday and the gusts were Strong Enough to overpower that surfer. No word on the victims condition this morning. It causes Great Sadness here because the apple fest is a great tradition here in hayward and the east bay, and the fact that someone would do this, steal apples from the apple orchard, we dont know why. People are so sad here, that were thinking of next year putting in security cameras to protect the apples. Thats too bad. Before the theft even happened the festival was already short on apples.
