Budget goes into effect on tuesday. Democrats and republicans we split on the main budget bi. Democrats and republicans we 156. 4 billion budget goes into effect on tuesday. Democrats and republicans were split on the main budget will. The same goes for several trailer bills. For the most part, republicans were mostly sidelined on budget talks. And that is because of budget just a simple majority to pass. To talk about that and the other challenges that face the state republican, thanks for being here this morning. Nice to see you again. With the states democratic majority making the final call, do republicans have any say on this budget . They dont. This is the new system they wanted, and it has led to faster budgets, but faster growing budgets. It seems the Republican Party is kind of lacking teeth right now in california. Why is that . Well, i think you have to deal with a number of things. The migration patterns, theres a lot of Republican Voters moving out, looking for jobs elsewhere, but the reality is the Republican Party has been given an alternative choice, and the democrats are, put those two things together, and youre going to have a big democrat majority. See a lot of complaints coming from the party, but not a lot of solutions . Is that fair to say . It is, but the system as its designed with the majority budget and with the top two format makes it harder, but that means the republicans have to do more. They have to say, especially well talk about the governors race, they have to say why the current Business Climate has led us to number one in poverty. Thats been a hot topic, recently, concerned about ted gains going to blow the horn in texas. The high taxes and regulations in california, driving companies to other states. What should be done . We should make it competitive. California is by far the highest in the western united states. Economics is simple, the more something cost, the less you get. That applies to jobs. You mentioned tesla. They want to give them a special deal. We shouldnt be giving special deals to companies. We should make a flat, even system for everybody. We are lagging in job creation, number one in part because of lack of jobs. This hurt the budget in the long run. We should create, if cutting costs for tesla, it works for the mom and pop shops. We should be lower flat taxes, remember, 140,000 people in this state pay half the income tax. Thats way too high and dangerous. When it comments to taxes and the Companies Companies that hae favoritism, tesla coming up is there something to be said companies are successful that will come back to us in tax revenue . Yes, and that is simple economics, but if we lower it for all, you would have the reason why austin is one of the highest growing cities in the country, and the highest growing tech cities is because they have created a lower flat cost to all businesses, not just select few. Theres nothing special about tesla versus every other citizen, 11 so we need to create a state that is fair for everyone. Right now, california has a favoritism system. Both parties have been bad about this issue for decades, and we should change that. Lets talk about the gubernatorial election. Jerry brown versus neil kashkali, it looks like brown might be a shoe in. He has a if jerry would have some of the debates he wanted, they could talk about the Business Climate, and what he needs to do is put republicans on the map. Inside ffmta, the ink is about to dry on this new map, set to go up at a bus shelter this fall, its munis first map overhaul in nearly two decades. You can look quickly at the map, whether youre a visitor or somebody who comes on a daily basis, and understand which routes come less frequently.
