Hospitalized after they were hit by a train before a scheduled gig in oakland. Kpix 5s anne makovec joins us live from oakland, where the accident has stunned fans of tower of power. Anne. Reporter yeah. The two are recovering here at Highland Hospital this afternoon. [ jackhammer noise in the background ] reporter everybody is cautiously optimistic about their condition after they were hit by a capitol corridor train last night. [ music ] reporter this is the tower of power earlier this week performing at yoshis in oakland, the same venue that two band members were headed to when they were hit by an amtrak train last night. It was going about 25 miles an hour. Bassist Marc Van Wageningen who was filling in with the band and drummer David Garibaldi one of tower of powers founding members. The two were walking from their Waterfront Hotel near Jack London Square to yoshis for a gig that started at 8 00. It was just after 7 30 when they crossed the train tracks, first waiting for one train to pass, and then being hit by a second train going in the opposite direction. We dont know if they didnt hear the train or we dont know how the tragedy happened. Reporter yoshis as manager came out and called 911. The band is, you know, emotionally destroyed. Reporter last night the leader of tower of power Emilio Castillo went to see them in the hospital. He said daves head and face were swollen and bruised but he was lucid and expected recover. Marc was in intensive care came through surgery well and were waiting to do further testing. [ music ] reporter the band was formed in oakland in 1968. I was woken up. Reporter the rising water that took over his street and the crews who rescued nearly 50 people were something john had never seen. His family has lived here for a long time. Reporter now San Benito County workers fear sewage and agricultural runoff, pesticides and anything else from the flood could have gotten in their drinking water. And the Pacheco Creek flooded and broke the levee. I guess you cant boil it, either, thats what i heard. You cant even boil it to drink it. Reporter about 100 homes may be affected including lovers lane where john lives. As the cleanup continues, they know theres another round of rain just around the corner. My grandparents live down there. I have several neighbors here. So if they have anything any problems, well help each other out. Todays decision is in response to violation of release. A driver in arizona is being called a hero after he saved the life of an ambushed state trooper. The vicious attack happened yesterday off a remote Interstate West of phoenix. The state trooper edward anderssoh stopped to help at an accident scene and as he was laying out flares on the freeway a man pulled up and opened fire striking the officer in the shoulder. The suspect then got out of his car and started beating the officer. The suspect is getting the better of the trooper and on top of him striking the head on the pavement. Officer down officer down come in, please this is a civilian reporter another driver saw what was going on and shot the suspect. The hero driver then called for help and even ordered a helicopter to transport the officer. The suspect died and the officer is in serious but stable condition. Donald trump is blasting a report from a former British Intelligence officer that contains unverified allegations about the president elect. Mr. Trump took to twitter today calling the british man behind the report a, quote, sleazebag. He also hammered home the point that he believes that u. S. Intelligence released the documents even though they know they are false. Comey briefed trump last week but didnt detail the allegations in the 35 page report. If they have had to be outside give them shelter to keep them warm and dry. If the dog is normally indoors and has in nice big coat, one of the things that happens is their fur on their paws keeps them protected especially during snow. I think right now id like to talk about snow. That would be good. So its better to acclimate your dog to snowy weather. You cant just take them out. Its not a good idea to just stand around. You want to walk with the pet and then come back in as soon as possible. If you do have a pet that doesnt have this nice beautiful, you know, fur coat, then make sure that they wear some sort of protective coat that covers their abdomen so theyre protected.
