Heading into this weekend, we will start seeing improvement. For now, we are still seeing widespread throughout the area. Heading into next week, by monday and tuesday, we will see improvements. Once we had into monday and tuesday, an area of low pressure will move its way in and that is when we could see a light chance of showers as early as monday night, mostly for the north bay. Heading down south into the golden gate bridge, just past that into the peninsula, we are in the 60s and 70s across the bay bridge. Heading down south closer to the santa clara valley, 80s and 70s. Very similar set up for us this afternoon close to the east bay. People in the south bay may have felt a little shaken, a 2. 8 magnitude quake hit after 11 00 a. M. Near cupertino. It was a small one. No reports of any damages. Police are investigating what led up to a deadly shooting at a car dealership in albany. We brought this to you as breaking news at noon yesterday. Police say a gunmen shot and killed a Woman Working at the toyota Berkeley Service center and then later died in a gun battle. Officers have not much to say about the victim and the suspect but witnesses believe the two knew each other. A Traffic Alert for south bay drivers starting in 9 00 tonight. The northbound lanes of highway 87 in san jose will close for repaving from 280 to highway 85. They are scheduled to reopen by 5 00 a. M. On monday. President biden is coming to the bay area next week. He will be here on tuesday for a Reelection Campaign reception. The white house has not specified where the event will take place. This year alone, more than 15,000 car breakins had been reported to police, only slightly down from last year. Under a new program, that is where police are now using bait cars to try to catch thieves but a lot of people are frustrated and they say nothing seems to be working. We heard from a manager at a shoe store who was worried these breakins are driving the business away. The recurring problem occurs like clockwork. Cars will come around the corner and it is quick. Theyve got it down to a science. You dont even know what is happening. Danny has seen it all, people breaking into cars right outside his shoe store. He has been the manager of the shop on haight street since 1997. This has been going on for so many years and i dont see any changes happening. We have this frustration in a public letter sent to combat San Franciscos car break and problem organized by supervisor dean preston. The city has made no noticeable progress. It does not mean there has been no progress but you dont see the results in terms of a reduction in car breakins. Visitors to our city are not only losing money and property but often left traumatized and with a very bad experience. Danny wants to see more than just conversations. He says this issue is not just affected individuals, it has impacted local businesses as well. People are like, if you do, if you dont. For a lot of people, it is like easier to shop online. Entire groups of animals are banishing. In california, a small endangered fox is teaching us a lesson in perseverance. Anne makovec has our project earth report. Early in the morning as the sun rises at Cal State University bakersfield, it is pretty quiet. A few clouds out walking. When night falls, it gets a little wild. Researchers puncture a can of cat food, securing into the ground and overnight, a camera reports the action. The skunks and opossums are no big surprise but these guys are, the san joaquin kit box. They are an endangered species. We are all very surprised to see kit foxes doing so well in the urban areas. Abby gwen says since the late 60s, the number of san joaquin kit foxes has declined in part due to habitat loss. Now, Climate Change threatens them even more. As you can see in this recent video, the foxes are multiplying like crazy. It seems like they like school campuses. For better or for worse, csub, our campus, seems to be a kit box factory. Lucas hall is a conservation biologist at the university. The scientist and his teammate an eyeopening discovery. The kit fox is sharing borough space with other wild animals including one of their favorite foods, the california ground squirrel. It is kind of surprising when you think that here on campus we have ground squirrels and we have evidence using kit fox burroughs. There are cats using those boroughs, opossums, raccoons, skunks. This crazy cool roommate situation has created an unusual dilemma, the number of squirrels has exploded and are ripping up the landscape. The ground staff decided to fumigate what they thought were squirrel dens but that left some students fuming. They did not really know which were squirrel dens or kit fox dens. We are the only university that has endangered foxes that live on it. On campus, this society has gathered nearly 2000 signatures to stop the fumigation. The university has since discontinued the program and proclaimed its unwavering support for the endangered fox. It is exciting. It is not doom and gloom. We could really do a lot. Biodiversity is one of the greatest weapons to fight the impacts of Climate Change. The campus is now home to 70 kit fox dens with 37 boxes at last count. There is hope that if we do the right thing now and we work together, we can make a difference. Hall is inspired to see the next generation get involved. The decisions we make now are not decisions we have to live with, they are decisions the next generation has to live with.
