This is the view from Treasure Island and jessica i know theres weather coming up. Is it today . Is it tomorrow . When do those rain drops come . So inconveniently it actually comes heading into this weekends forecast. And as we take a quick look at whats happening today its still a stunning afternoon for us. Yesterday, we had a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast. But today its going to be a lot sunnier as High Pressure is now directly over the state of california. Keeping us dry and above average for our daytime highs just a bit longer but nicole brings up a good point. We have some active weather in the forecast for us and that moves in friday heading into saturday. Late friday night, you are going to notice a lot of changes in the forecast for us. For example, tomorrows daytime highs are not going to be nearly as warm as today and to add to that also going to start seeing more clouds roll in just ahead of the first splash of showers late tomorrow night into Early Saturday Morning. But well get there in just a minute. Lets start off with today just a little bit more and yesterday we were sitting about 15 degrees above average. In areas like san jose and today were still sitting about ten degrees above average in the local communities from the Santa Clara Valley off into the east bay. A stunning day to get outside and juster and yesterday and just get some fresh air and today is a repeat of that. Heading up into petaluma and santa rosa, 76 to 72 degrees within the stretch of highway right there. Once we head off into the east bay just from the bay bridge, San Francisco over into oakland, were seeing a little bit warmer temperatures off into the east bay there. A lot warmer the more continuous more you drive out into the east and of course down into the Santa Clara Valley with dry conditions lasting into this afternoon. Im going to talk about the rainfall totals coming up in just a bit and how much rain your local community can expect. But for now over to you, nicole. Thank you, jessica. All right, now to the story that has travelers, tourists and locals talking. So what do you think of this . Should oaklands airport add San Francisco bay to its name . That will be decided by the Oakland Airport commission today as opposition . San francisco mounts. And you niobous at the port of oakland want the name changed hoping to boost travelers. Many are unfamiliar with the region they say and they fly into sfo even if their destinations bring them closer to the east bay but San FranciscoCity Attorney wants to ground the plan sending a strong lotter in opposition even threatening to sue. The argument there . The change violates trademark on San Franciscos airport. Also by the way the San Mateo County board of supervisors voted to oppose this. This will be interesting through the day. One of the arguments is that travelers will be confused so we went to x to hear from you. And overwhelming number of voters in the poll say yes, the change would be confusing. 84. 1 of you in fact. So in the next halve hour were live talking to travelers in oakland and at 7 00 on pix 44 cable 12, we will give you a voice in our people are talking segment. First responders are true heroes among us and while they dont always get enough recognition, one east bay man is showing gratitude to the men who saved his life. He told our Andrea Nakano how these heroes gave him a Second Chance. Reporter there were hugs and tears at headquarters in livermore a truly emotional moment for paramedic dave raymond. Important for me to come back to you guys. Reporter this was the first time a patient stopped by to say thank you. Guess what . You are the first. To be able to have that opportunity to say that. I cant express the joy that im feeling. In knowing that im getting to talk to you. Yeah, appreciate it. Reporter raymond and emt jason helped save jeff harringtons life roughly five months ago. The 53yearold went into cardiac arrest and came very close to leaving his wife and two kids just 12 and 13 behind. I was dead for 20 minutes and i came back. They dont get gratitude. They dont get it enough. And and i recognize that and i needed to be here to thank them. Reporter harrington is a former b. A. R. T. Police officer and he knew he had a heart condition but admits he didnt take the best care of his health but after getting a Second Chance to watch his kids grow up. Hes not taking anything for granted anymore. There are efforts, you know, mean something to me. And their efforts means that im taking full advantage of the moment. That my life spans going to be way longer than it it would have been because im living better and just taking advantage of what the beautiful gift that they gave me from their hard work. Reporter as an exmilitary officer dave gave harrington a challenge coin as a symbol of the bond the men will share for the rest of their lives. Speechless. Grateful. And hope people are learn that it takes a team. That were just part of it. Reporter that team gave one of the most valuable gifts of all. These First Responders will say its just part of their jobs. It doesnt make a difference. Who you are, what you believe in, the color of your skin. That doesnt matter. Were human. You know . Life is precious. Reporter but their real life heroes as they try to save one life at a time. Well, the paramedics werent the only heroes that day. They told andrea jeffs wife helped them out by starting cpr herself and something she learned to do when she was a lifeguard and a skill they encourage everybody to pick up. What a wonderful story there in the ability to say thank you and obviously thats something that is you know, his heart goes out to all the people that helped him just regain consciousness and life. Yeah, right and you know these First Responder dont often get that. They see so many hard situations. So to get to see life and health happen and to get that chance to get the payoff, thats what they deserve. For sure. Time right now 5 08 in the morning. Lessons in lifesaving and selfless service. Chp says 22yearold jesus duran test ran away after flipping over a car at the interstate 680 and highway 242 split early sunday. 9yearold Danna Hernandez from oregon was killed and four other people were injured. Looking live at oakland now where Police Say Car theft is such a big problem, that last year, one car was stolen for every 30 residents. But new sting operations are showing results. The state has been bringing in chp officers to help crack down on crime and so far, theyve recovered over 400 stolen vehicles in the city and around the east bay. They tell us over the past eight weeks, theyve made over 180 arrests and seized dozens of firearms linked to crimes. Well, this is an all too familiar sight for a popular oakland doughnut shop. Just got robbed for a fourth time in less than a year. This time one of the suspects hopped over the counter at cole january doughnuts while another ripped out the Cash Register and a third swung around a golf club. This robbery happened on march 1st. The owner told us shes worried that she wont be able to staff her store if thieves keep targeting them. Reed . Well, lets jump the map now and look at damage from storms in the south causing people to rally to help one another again. This is in the face of heavy floods and rains. We can tell you this morning electricity is out for hundreds of thousands because of tornadoes in some areas and you see that house just reduced to matchsticks. Total loss. Yes, sir is here to break down what the damage is in the forceful wind. Good morning, jess. Good morning to you. Yeah, check this path of destruction and an ef1 tornado left behind. This is in sly dell, louisiana and wind speeds clocked in nearly 110 miles an hour. You can see how severe the damage is to those homes and thankfully, people in the area were able to escape quickly and safely and there havent been any reports of any deaths. Now another ef1 tornado struck the city of katy in texas. Businesses were completely destroyed and debris is just everywhere right now and the National Weather service says the wind speeds with that one got up to 90 Miles Per Hour and that one didnt have much of a track actually. But the winds didnt just rip up the infrastructure. Check out the coast waters in mobile, alabama. Intense winds is helping it rise on to the freeways and causeways there. The route here you are seeing on the screen is actually i10 connecting mobile and spanish fort. It has been wild down there. And of course keep in mind earlier this week, as all of us were getting excited for the path of totality to go through the regions they were going through the active weather and we forecast that too. Back to the bay and talk about the beautiful weather that we have this afternoon. If you remember yesterday and thought this is a nice spring day for us here in the bay area. Luckily a repeat of that today. More above average temperatures this afternoon and the reason why is because High Pressure is in the inland areas but later this week we have a storm track from the north and thats going to cool the 80s down into the 50s just like that. Lets dive into the forecast this morning. Coastal clouds close to santa cruz and halfmoon bay area. Sunnier skies compared to yesterday and then its game on once we head into friday. Just ahead of the cold front moving its way in. First were going to notice the winds and its going to be breezy and sudden into friday late night around 10 00 when the first band of rain initially hits the bay area. Starting in the north bay and kind of sweeping into the Santa Clara Valley by midnight. And around 2 00 a. M. On saturday morning, many of us are going to be sleeping through this storm and its worth noting by the time we wake up were going to be in the little break from that first band thats now making its way up into the sierra region giving them snow and back here in the bay, well get a little bit of a dry break and so many of us waking up to Clear Conditions or at least cloudy skies i should say. And then some more unsettled weather starts rolling in since the center of the storm track is sitting just offshore. It will be breezy for us as we head into the hours into the afternoon hours on saturday. Well continue to watch the storm track move to the south. Now i want to talk about the temperatures one more time though because these daytime highs that we have today, like we talked about earlier upper 60s near San Francisco and low 70s in oakland but then 80s all throughout the east bay. Yeah, these temperatures are worth noting because right around the corner, san jose is a great example of this. Were going to dip from the 80s all the way down to the low 50s throughout most the inindians and thats all thanks to the storm system moving its way in from the gulf of alaska. This is cold dense air rolling in from offshore. And thats going to bring in temperatures down to the 50s by saturday and 60s luckily into sunday as it moves itself away and then High Pressure builds in and drier conditions and sunnier skies and 70s once again into kick into next workweek. Update you on the forecast. For now over to you, nicole. All right, jessica thank you. A live look at some of our bridges this morning. As many of you drive across the bay bridge to get to work, starting off for those planning to take the san mateo bridge. Not too much happening here just yet. Westbound commuters taking 880 over to highway 101, its pretty open. Metering lights not on at the bay bridge just yet. Its in the green. But things as you know theyre going the thicken up once those lights do turn on in a couple of minutes. Great conditions at the golden gate bridge. A couple of cars making their way into San Francisco this morning. Well, it is a very special morning for so many in our country who know what its like to have a loved one need a lifesaving organ transplant and these people are Bridge Builders right . Bridge builders to life and theyre building those bridges for the sick by becoming living donors on their behalf. Our Shawn Chitnis shares the story of one east bay man who saw a need in our world and stepped forward giving a thumbs up to life. I knew i had to do it. I knew i had to become an organ donor and i could not imagine anything more satisfying than getting to be an organ donor and enjoy it in life. Reporter louise mayan has worked for years at Donor Network withest in san ramon. A federally recognized organization to help people in need around Northern California. I knew the need was there. I we all know the need is there. What really put me over the edge, what made me realize that i needed to do this, was getting more information about how safe it was. Reporter this job constantly reminds him about the impact of donating life including this wall in the office which celebrates all who gave to Donor Network west in their first year. With a butterfly for each donation. Louise
